I've been to about 125 hostels in 49 countries, and La Candelaria may well be the coolest of them all! The location is perfect, right in the La Candelaria park. So it's close to the bus station, the collectivos, and everything you want to see and do. But it's a few blocks from the main streets, which means that it is peaceful. I stayed in a private room with a fan, which was all I needed. The place is very colorful and eclectic, and the vibe is great.

What truly sets this hostel apart is its wonderful garden. It's just awesome! Sharing breakfast amid the greenery with the staff and the other guests was the perfect start to another day in or around Valladolid. The garden is big and is sort of partitioned into different sections that allow guests to have a certain sense of tranquility if they so desire. The hammock area is pretty nice and I spent a few hours reading there. But bring some insect repellent. . .

Tanya, Jose, and the rest of the staff are friendly, helpful, and knowledgeable. They gave me tips and recommendations that allowed me to make the most of my stay in Valladolid. You will quickly get acquainted with the cats. They act like they own the place!

The only drawback, in my opinion, is that there are no windows, just screens to keep the bugs out. And with the cleaning crew getting busy around 7:30am or 8:00am, it can get a little noisy quite early. Even with earplugs, this is not a hostel where you can sleep in. But it just means that you have a longer day to look forward to!

Overall, La Candelaria is the perfect place to stay if you are considering visiting Valladolid!

I would have given Hostel Candelaria 5 out of 5 except that while we stayed we were in the upstairs room in the garden and sadly the toilet system broke down in those shared facilities. This was not a problem really as we just had to walk a little further to use the shared bathrooms downstairs, as soon as the owner found out about the problem upstairs they straight away got this fixed and it only took 1 day to rectify. All in all the place was fantastic! The private rooms are spacious, clean and the garden surrounding the property were wonderful. The hot water was ok but a bit temperamental at times. The staff were also extremely helpful and were able to help us with advise about the cenotes to visit and also the bonus was we were able to hire the bike they rent out per hour.
We paid about 350 pesos per night in November time and it was well worth it. Thanks hostel Candelaria for such a lovely stay.

we stayed here in a private room during our 3 days at Valladolid and really liked it. There is a good atmosphere, friendly hosts and the rooms are pleasant. We enjoyed the breakfast area and the hammocks in the jardin.
You can rent bikes at the hostel to visit the cenotes and pueblas in the neighbourhood. They also help you with information to other attractions (Ek balam, places to eat,etc ).

Vallodolid was far my most favourite place to stay in the Yucatan and it was also made by this excellent hostal/hotel. One could get to so many sites from this hotel and there are excellent restaurants which the hotel will tell you about.

Room Tip: I had a room on the top floor which was excellent

You really will like it here.
Especially the upstairs rooms.
Very clean, excellent staff and easy to spend a couple of extra days.
The city is wonderful and a great central location for cenotes, Ek Belam, Chichen Itza (don't stay in Piste!!!) Rent some bikes and check out the area.
Go to the Venado Museum and then come back and get a great nights sleep and a nice breakfast. The kitchen is very nice and the markets are close.
Don't forget to say hi to Bob and R.... they are very friendly Chihuahuas and you will miss them when you leave just as we did.

Room Tip: The dorms were great, but the rooms upstairs are very nice.
