We had reservations at the Hacienda Uxmal ( a sister property) but upon our arrival were told that we had been moved to the lodge since we were the only ones booked into the Hacienda that night ( a very slow low season). What a treat!
The lodge is directly at the entry to the Uxmal ruins and it is a wonderful place. We had room 1A whose veranda overlooked the main pool and the Uxmal pyramid was visible from our hammock (which was hung up by the staff after we checked in). The room was very large with a large bathroom and was clean and neat with semi-rustic furniture. The feel of the room was exactly as the name of the hotel implied - like a lodge. The grounds are very pretty and the pools large and clean.
We booked a private guide through the hotel for the same price as the ones that stand at the entrance of the ruins charge, and he was excellent. I would suggest this to anyone and if you can get Jorge he is the best - fluent in English, Spanish and German, and so entertaining and informative. He truly loves the Uxmal site and it shows.
The Uxmal ruins are excellent and totally different than the others we have seen (Chichen Itza, Tulum and Coba). We also did the sound and light show and it was interesting.
The food in the hotel's dining palapa was good and there is a nice bar for a good cold beer or other drink.
Overall this is an excellent hotel and highly recommended. It costs more than the Hacienda but since we were upgraded we did not have to pay any more. The Hacienda looked very nice as well and is just a short walk up a road from the Lodge and the Uxmal entry. I am sure it would have been fine as well.
