Spent two nights here as part of a Globus/Monograms tour. We were very happy with our accomodations in Chichen Itza, which is owned by the same family, but the staff at Uxmal made the visit totally delightful. Both properties offer the calming sound of birdsong day and night. Everything in the restaurant here was wonderfully fresh. We learned that they grow lots of their own produce on the grounds of the Hacienda, part of the same complex right across the road. Our guide, Carlos, from Grey Line/Mayaland Tours took us to see the whole property (as well as visits to the Chichen Itza, Uxmal and Kabah archeological sites, and Merida). Would definitely use this as a jumping off point in future for the many sites we didn't get to visit this time. As for safety, we encountered no problems here, in Chichen Itza, or in Cancun where we got to spend three last days in Mexico. Had a wonderful time!

Splendid hotel with great restaurant. The manager, Bustilleros, told us the American people are not coming because they are afraid. To tell the truth, we traveled 1600 milers and walked the city streets at night and never had anything but a great time. This was in the middle of January, 2012. Yes, Bustilleros, the Yucatan is safer than many US cities!
Great place.

Thank you for sharing your experiences while with us, and particularly with your mentioning how safe your 1,600 miles of traveling in the Yucatan were. Yes, Yucatan is safer than Sweden, the Swiss country and most of the civilized world. Yet the media has really hurt us be not pointing out that the problem areas of Mexico have nothing to do with the Yucatan Peninsula. We are over a thousand miles away from Mexico's borders with the US, where most of the violence do to Mexico's war on drugs are taking place.

We hope to see you back to our beloved Yucatan soon!
Muchas Gracias. Safe travels.

We stayed two nights at the Lodge as part a a private tour booked through Mayaland/greyline. Our guide, Victor Gonzales, who drove us there from CanCun via Chichen Itza and Merida, grew up a a village a few miles from Uxmal. He is a Mayan who studied in the States and is incredibly knowledgeable about the site and Mayan culture. Our room at the lodge was overlooking a smallish "endless" swimming pool in a lush tropical grove. The room was large, the king sized bed comfortable, and everything was sparkling clean. The hotel was in the process of extending one of the pools to create a waterfall with a lower pool. Hate to go on about the pools but I am a lap swimmer and rarely find hotel pools worth swimming in, but that is not the case here. We also enjoyed the food which tends toward the traditional Mayan. Unlike the Tex/Mex fare that dominates in the States, Mayan cooking tends not to be very spicy, though you can always ask for a fiery jolt of salsa picante. Everything was fresh, well prepared, and delicious. The service was really extraordinary. The staff was universally helpful, friendly and welcoming. Obviously one of the chief attractions of the Lodge is that it is directly across the road from the entrance to the archeological site, so at 8:30 we entered the site with our guide and for the first couple of hours had the place virtually to ourselves. Having a private and very knowledgeable guide made to visit much richer than it would have been with only the guidebook. Victor gave us a 5 and a half hour tour that included climbing one of the pyramids

Room Tip: Try to get a room overlooking the larger swimming pool

The Lodge offered us a beautiful big room with a large bathroom.

The outside door had a fantastic "Maya" carving in the shape of a warrior. All the wooden furniture was of high quality.

The room (first floor) was almost completely round. It was located in a small building with 3 rooms on the first floor and 3 on the second floor.

There was a big jacuzzi (for 2 at least) which worked perfectly. Fragant soap, shampoo and face cream.

The bed was good too.

Warning:Do not drink the bottled water! It will cost you 3/4 dollars!

Check to see if there are no insects in your bed! The people on the 2nd floor had netting over the bed since insects kept dropping from the (open) thatched roof. Another person discovered a scorpio in her bed... Remember, you are in the jungle.

The staff was very courteous and smiled all the time.

The dinner was quite good. So was breakfast.

All in all, a very, very good stay.

PS Did I say the Lodge is across the Maya Temples?

A stone throw away from the magical site of Uxmal, this is definitely the place to stay. The rooms are spacious clean and very well designed. The staff is friendly and corteous. The food is well prepared. A swim in the pool after exploring the site is great. Would definitely suggest top floor rooms. Use the hotel as a base to explore other lesser know sites nearby such as Sayil, Kabah and labna. Don´t miss the fruit market at Oxcutzcab

I was lucky enough to spend one night at the Lodge at Uxmal on my way to Merida. I hadn't seen the archaeological site since the 70's and decided it was time. My guide to the ruins was exceptional and in my opinion Uxmal is even more astounding than Chichen Itza. The pyramid of the Magician is second to none. My room at the lodge was large and comfortable and I felt I had stepped back in time waking up to the sounds of the numerous birds that make their home in the jungle around the site. A young Mayan woman welcomed me with a hand squeezed orange water and explained a few words in Maya and acquainted me with the Lodge. There is a wide porch outside the rooms with rocking chairs made from local hardwood. I had two delicious meals there and was sad to have to leave after just 24 hours. I plan to return again soon for a longer stay.

Room Tip: A corner room overlooking the pool area.

Like the previous reviewers we were allegedly upgraded, but in truth we were a small tour party of 6 and the Hacienda had a number of large bus parties staying over for a couple of nights and required the rooms. The room was basic but large with an very nice bathroom. The Beds in the rooms have mosquito nets. It was kept spotlessly clean. We were fortunate to be given an upper room (1st floor) in block 1 and the balcony afforded a stunning view over the swimming pool to the main pyramid in the park. It was spectacular at sunset sitting on the rocking chairs on the balcony taking in the view. We were also fortunate to be upgraded to the "A La Carte" menu during our stay and the food was first class. The wine was a little expensive, roughly £20 for a Spanish Rioja or a Californian White Zindfandel, but was worth paying the extra because the Mexican house wine was not the greatest. On the menu was a sweet allegedly ordered by the Queen, when she and Prince Philip stayed at Uxmal in 1974. A Cheese Cake covered in local honey and served with an orange sorbet. Recommended it was absolutely delicious. There was a lot of bugs about, but that doesn't distract from the sheer beauty and tranquility of Uxmal, and we were never bitten. Well worth a visit.

Room Tip: Block 1 - Rooms E to G upper floor offer an amazing view over the swimming pool to the main Pyramid.

Dear j4ambos:

I am glad to learn that you stayed at our hotel, The Lodge at Uxmal. It is indeed quite different from the Hotel Hacienda Uxmal, and even when both of them feature different ambiances,
the quality of service provided is outstanding in both. What you described is real (amenities, facilities, stunning view, beauty and tranquility of the site), and I’d like to thank you for taking
the time to post a note and share your experience. I’m hopeful your comments will invite others to experience our facilities while visiting The Yucatan.

Thank you for staying at a Mayaland Resort.

Sincerely,

The Management
