Maya Luna had already been recommended by friends, but it surpassed my expectations. Simple but comfortable, spacy and private cabanas with a roof top terrace and directly located on the beach; excellent food prepared by Chief Pedro or owner Jan and served by Caroline or Philippe, Caroline always there for assistance and advice, and last but not least the inhouse dive center La Tortuga Azul, run by the lovely Spanish instructor Yolanda and her Dutch assistant Selma, who professionally, patiently and relaxedly re-introduced me to scuba-diving (which had become a bit rusty since my last dive some sixteen years before). The reef and its great diving sites right in front of the hotel were worth the while.

A special mention for Jan's downtown bar La Bodeguita with its typically Mexican interior, its American tv-set, British dart game, and Mexican pool table, and its mainly local audience with whom you get easily befriended (provided you speak Spanish and are not adverse to a fierce drink).

If you're looking for a place to wind down, get personal service and attention, are assured of excellent food and drinks (try Caroline's coco locos, margueritas or mongitas), and great diving or snorkling or just swimming), this is the place for you.

I stayed for 6 days and I made 4 wonderfull guided scubadives practically just in front of my hotel! Barracuda's, eaglerays, turtles made my day! So did the friendly owners of the hotel: great food (a daily choice of fresh fish!) and service! And I can really recommend Maya Luna to solo female travellers, I felt perfectly safe like visiting friends! Loved it!

I spent 3 days with my girlfriend at Hotel Maya Luna and we both enjoyed it very much. Carolien and Jan have a great spot of paradise in Mexico. Nice bungalows/rooms and great food made our stay complete.

Btw, when you go there, please gif Dunja and the cats a hug from us ;)

First impression peacefull and calm. Away from the hectic daily life. Great food prepared with very fresh and natural ingredients. Spacy nicely decorated room.

The owners Jan and Caroline and their staff make you feel at home.

The diving school just opened and it was a great experience to go for mij first discovery scupa dive with Jolanda. She managed to get me over mij fear and what I saw down there was spectaculair. But also my friends that went snorkling had a great experience.

Me and my 10-year old daughter stayed at Mayaluna for one week and had the best time! The owners Jan and Caroline and their staff made us feel welcome from the first moment and made our stay one wonderfull experience. The cabanas are right there on the beach, just a foodstep away for the blue sea. The reef (the second largest in the world!) is just in front and a beautiful place to spot amazing fish, turtles and coral. The garden around Mayaluna is green and colorful, and daily threasured by the gardener Dolores. The food is special and delicious (try the stuffed pineaplle, the ceviche, the indonesian dish or ask for the spicy meatballs: great!) The hammocks, but especially the roofs of the cabanas are the perfect place to lay back. And the seabreeze keeps the mosquitos away.
The owners also just opened up a new bar (La Bodeguita) in the village where you can watch sports or play some pool, while enjoying a tequilla.

We also went diving a couple of times (I am an advanced diver and my daughter tried two discovery dives). Yolanda, from the inhouse diveshop La Tortura Azul, was a very professional divemaster! Very friendly and relaxed, we saw turtles, rays, eagle rays, big barracucdas and my personal favorite the little, shy trunkfish!

Mayaluna is a beautiful spot to relax and unwind. The rooms are spacious, the roofterraces on the cabanas are great to watch the sun go down. The food and service make it without a doubt a place where you wanna go back anytime.

My wife and I are architectural aficionados, so we especially enjoyed the extraordinarily pleasing design of our room at Hotel Maya Luna. We especially enjoyed the second floor balcony with the natural fiber sun cover umbrella. The fantastic food was an extra blessing. So upon arriving, there was no need for further driving anywhere - just "pedestrian" enjoyment of the room, the restaurant, the snorkeling and the ambiance - all of which were anything but "pedestrian." Next time, we'll consider spending the entire week enjoying Carolien's wonderful place.
