This category covers different excursions provided by Costa Maya Excursions (one of the companies umbrellaed under Island Marketing). We took the "Private Catamaran Sailing and Snorkeling" excursion. This excusion is serviced by Jaime Strimpopulous at Nohch Kay. We were on a Norwegian Cruise Line and decided to book a private excursion rather than through the cruise line (they didn’t offer anything like this) . There were 5 of us and we are not snorkelers - we just wanted to be taken for a ride in the beautiful waters of Costa Maya.

We were greeted very warmly by Jamie. We had booked a 2 hour sail, but Jamie offered for us to do an hour, then enjoy the beach area for a few hours, eat, and then go on another hour sail in the afternoon. The reservation we made through Island Marketing specifically said the reservation did not include beach access before and after the catamaran sail, but since they were not booked up for the beach, Jamie offered us the use of the beach chairs and covered area, which really added to the day's enjoyment. This may not be true if they are booked up – they have limited space and only allow so many people on their beach. We had lunch there and it was very enjoyable. You can change in the restroom and if you have "extra stuff" Jamie put ours in one of his back rooms, but we could have left it on the beach.

Jamie and his staff were professional, friendly, and we had a lovely day at the Nohoch Kay Restaurant, Bar & Beach Club and sailing. The experience of booking through Island Marketing, LTD was very easy and positive.

Very hot, jungle like atmosphere. Definitely worth the time spent. Our guide was very knowledgable, not only about the Mayans, but also the vegetation.

We found this tour on TripAdvisor and then booked it through Island marketing Ltd. we also booked another trip through them while on this cruise in Roatan. Both experiences were pleasant and just as advertised. Our tour guide was Lilia and she was very nice. She spoke good English and seemed to really enjoy sharing her knowledge of the Myan culture and the ruins. The drive was about 45 minuets and we were on the site for about an hour and a half. Our kids 8 & 10, really enjoyed the ruins. On the return to port the driver gave us the option of being dropped off at the port or a small village about 5 minuets from the port. We went there and enjoyed some beach time. The cab ride from there to the port was 5 min and 6$ for the four of us. We had a real nice day.

We were referred by another couple on a previous cruise in November. My husband and I are always cautious about things not sponsored on the ship because at least we know if we have a bad ship excursion we can complain to the cruise line. Well this is one of the best places that we have been. They email instructions hod to get there and what the cab will cost. Once the cab drove up we were greeted immediately and shown to the beach area where we were able to pick our real estate for the day. We were then introduce to the staff that would be taking care of us for the day. We did not want for anything. The food and the drinks were wonderful

Carnival Glory was supposed to dock in Belize, but we were diverted to Costa Maya last minute. We were not happy (at the time), but the night before we docked at Costa Maya (which was Christmas night), we sent email request for a tour with Native Choice. Turned out to be a great move. Here is what you need to know without repeating from other reviews. The Mayan ruins are located in an absolutely beautiful mayan jungle setting. I visited this area in 2008, so I was expecting small jungle trees like I had seen before. This area was different with very large palm trees and lush vegetation. The various ruins are in great shape with great photo ops anytime of the day. Enough about the great ruins. Here is why you should pick Native Choice for your tour operator. "Like new" full sized vans with extended tops were very comfortable. Because group size is only up to 12, you leave the port quicker and travel faster than by bus, so you arrive before other groups from the cruise ships. That means you have more time to get photos before the area is flooded with tourists. Our native guide was named Kasi. She has spent time in the States so her English was perfect and she communicated very well. With small groups you get lots of time to ask many questions. We stopped at a small village to buy fresh pineaple (tree-ripened pineaple is incredible!!). No need to worry about missing the ship since you are in new vans that will not break down. If you do miss the ship, they have travel insurance to help you out. Our group included my 77 year old mother and kids ages 23, 18, 14, 12, and 7. All ages loved the trip. We did the extreme tour which included great full size lunch with pina coladas in very cool village setting with thatched roofs. We had wonderful chicken fajitas, beans, rice, chips and homemade pico de gallo. The service was fabulous and our guides were attentive to our every need. After lunch we headed down to the fresh water lagoon to kayak. The kids also enjoyed swimming in the refreshing water while my mom watched from the shore while relaxing in a beach chair under the palm trees. Raul (our driver) had us back safe and sound to our ship with 30 minutes to spare. As we said goodbye, my 23 son remarked "Native Choice was DEFINITELY the RIGHT choice". I definitely felt like our experience was better overall than if we had paid more money to ride on the big buses.
One last item: the Costa Maya port is privately owned by somebody other than the local natives (probably cruise ship companies?). You need to walk through the shops and outside the gate to their store, located on the left side of the road. Every last dollar you spend stays with the local people rather than being paid to the large cruise ships companies that rape and pillage by charging too much for everything.
