Excellent choice if you are porting in Costa Maya on a cruise. There isn't alot to do or see on the beach of Costa Maya (very small and crazy expensive food/drinks at the two places there). We were very glad we booked this tour...the staff at Native Choice were all very friendly, helpful and spoke great English. We were greeted straight away and given a cold bottle of water. Our wait time was quick and we were off on a roomy coach bus with working AC.
The ride to Chacchoben takes about an hour from the time you get on the bus to the ruins. Our first guide, Joel made an introduction and proceeded to talk the whole ride there, giving us a complete history lesson the area, Mayan culture and Costa Maya - it was almost as good as the actual tour of the ruins!!!
We were separated into groups of 20 and given an English speaking guide who walked us through the park. There are about 3 or 4 structures that have been restored and a couple more than have not, so you get a really nice picture of what it looked like when discovered in the 70s and how it might have looked during the Mayan era. Very cool and an awesome piece of history. Be prepared to walk ALOT!! And there are gobs of people so bring your patience and a good camera!!
Well worth the money and time to take this tour - we would highly recommend Chacchoben to anyone visiting the area and even more so, Native Choice Tours!!
