“Best for Families!”
Reviewed March 14, 2014

If you are looking for a great place to hang with your children under 16 this resort has everything you need. We didn't bring our kids and would not go back as we would like an adults only place. We also are not all-inclusive people, it's fun to eat and drink fully for a couple of days, after that it gets a bit much.

The buffet offers a variety of good and the ala carte restaurants are not too bad. The best restaurant (and book it right away as they fill up fast) is the Brazilian hands down. The El Rancho steak was about 2cms too think as my husband said. The Bayou restaurant had oversalted all the food so unable to eat.

The best drinks poured are in the reception bars. The room was great, large and beautiful, tub awesome. The grounds lovely as well. Getting a palapa and chairs is ridiculous...! People go out at 5-7am to put out their towels, of which signs everywhere say don't. And sometimes they don't show up for hours to use them??

IF you are looking for WI-FI Internet NOT the place to go!!!!! They charge ridiculous amounts of money for 30 minutes???? in this day and age, not cool. Even though alot of people complain they still don't change the policy?

The massage at the spa was fantastic, but overpriced .. only 20-30 dollars on the beaches of Playa and Pto Morales and 90 dollars 25 minutes away?

The staff was terrific! All in all.. there are some honest comments and most positive.

Room Tip: The three flights of stairs were hurting by the top.

I am writing this review from the perspective of a family travelling with 3 young children ages 10, 8, and 3. Those of you with 3 children already know it is difficult to find a hotel that accepts 3 children in a room, and Grand Sirenis Mayan Beach is one of the few hotels that does allow it. We have been travelling to all inclusive resorts with family for several years to Jamaica, Cuba and Mexico. In my opinion this is a great resort for families. The hotel is very well kept and clean. The nature is absolutely fabulous. There are animals and birds of all types throughout the resort. The gardens and vegetation are beautiful and very well maintained. The pool area is pretty, the lazy river is also a great feature. I felt that the beach was incredibly beautiful. I really don't understand the people who said that it is not a swimming beach. There are 3 beach areas. Yes, some parts do have some rocks, but it isn't alot and the water is a pristine turquoise. The best part of the beach in my opinion is the beautfiul rock formations and the amazing snorkelling right off the beach. We saw sea turtles, manta rays and countless number of beautiful fish while snorkelling fairly close to shore. Bring some bread in a ziploc bag and you will be sure to be surrounded by hundreds of pretty fish within seconds. I felt the beach was one of the best features of the resort. The rooms are quite spacious and had more than enough room for 5 people. Service was great in my opinion. Rooms were cleaned almost immediately after we left for breakfast and anytime we called because we had an issue, someone came to the door within minutes. I felt there was plenty to choose from between the buffet and beach snack bars every day. Always a few choices for fresh grill at dinner and a vast amount of choices at Breakfast. We didn't get to go to all the restaurants because it is tough to do so with kids, but the Mexican restaurant that we did go to was very nice. The ice cream shop and the coffee shop were an added bonus too. The drinks from the bar were also good quality (blender as opposed to premade slushie drinks) and real mohitos with lots of fresh mint. I agree that the service at the buffet was a little lacking but they were under staffed possibly because we travelled during March Break and the resort was full. I didn't find waiting to be a huge problem. We weren't in a rush to get anywhere! This could also be why it was difficult to get chairs at the beach or pool. We had to go out quite early (before 7am) just to reserve chairs. But there were plenty of umbrellas for shade which was great. My kids didn't use the kids club. They didn't seem to have a lot of organized activities. But they did a kids show every evening. There is a TON of walking and stairs to do which can sometimes be tiring when you are dragging a ton of stuff for several kids, but I think a bit of walking through beautiful scenery is just fine, especially when you are eating and drinking a lot more than usual! We needed the walking. The floors can be slippery when wet! We stayed in section 20 which was close to pool, lobby and buffet and was a good location. In my opinion this was a great hotel with beautiful facilities and a gorgeous beach. We would definitely be more than happy to stay there again. Don't listen to the bad reviews.

Room Tip: Section 20 is close to the pool, lobby and buffet.

We just spent two weeks at this hotel (room 2033) from Feb 19th-March 4th and would certainly recommend it to anyone travelling with children. The things we really liked include the following: The staff were amazing and super accommodating. A special shout out to Esau, one of the managers who accommodated our need to have extra buckets for ice and kept our ice packs frozen for our son's medication. This may not seem like much, but without his assistance, we could have had a medical emergency on our hands. Our housekeeper Laydi was awesome!!! We had tons of medical supplies/medication and never once worried that things would go astray.
The relaxing pool was great to get away and was never crowded, so you could just relax and chill out. The beach was also great so long as you were careful where you walked. The small cove furthest away from the resort had great snorkeling and we were pleased to see the sea turtles almost every time we went out.
The buffets were what you would expect for an all inclusive but no complaints. We went to the a few restaurants, our favorites were the Japanese and Brazilian.
There are a few things that were minor that lots have shared already. The beds are hard, but they will provide a pad if you request one. People saving sun chairs was a drag, but that is on the tourists, not the hotel. If everyone would just use the chair when they needed it, this issue of saving chairs would stop. The last thing to be aware of is the buildings are made of concrete so echo loudly. If you are a light sleeper this might not be a good choice of hotel for you.
Overall we had a great trip. It was in the minus 30-40's Celsius back home while we were there, so really...what is there to complain about.

Room Tip: We were in room 2033. It was close to the lobby, pools, lazy river and for us the walk to the beach...

My wife and myself first visited Grand Sirenis in October 2013 and enjoyed it so much we came back in March.this for us is unusual because we very rarely return to a place once we have visited.having traveled the world I have lots of places with which I can compare and believe me this hotel can hold its own with anywhere we have been, the staff are pleasant and helpful and their uniforms are always crisp and clean, there is no end of variety of food choice, all beautifully cooked and presented.the entertainment is varied and performed with lots of enthusiasm.all in all a wonderful experience, thank you to all the staff for a great time.

Room Tip: If physically impaired, then a room near the lobby may be best, but if you like a stroll after a meal...

Just got back this morning from a two week stay here an got to say what a fabulous hotel. Some of the reviews before we went wasn't great so I was a bit worried , I just wonder if people only write on trip advisor to moan . The staff were wonderful from the cocierge to the bar staff to the waiters to receptionist I wish I could name you all individually but big shout for Samuel Clemente in lobby bar Nicholas in beach barthsy never stop an always have time for a chat natividad who worked waiting on round beach bar became our friend and her English wasn't even that good but we managed to chat everyday , the rooms were great comfy bed good shower spotless clean and as for musty smells its in the Caribbean it's damp and humid all the time, the grounds pools and lazy river are gorgeous kept spotless all the time am do inviting . The food was a bit same same ant it is a big resort so the buffet is massive but I always enjoyed the food and had no problem booking a la carte restaurants but maybe staying for two weeks makes that easier. Sun beds round the beach were a bit sparse if you needed cover but I got one everyday an with three pools I can't imagine not finding one there either. A beautiful hotel with amazing staff and a fabulous holiday had by me and my husband . Nothing is ever perfect !!!!!

The hotel is really good, but there is a lot of walking. The food however is terrible, never hot or replenished often have to wait for a table to be cleared and this is in low season!. On the second week of the holiday you could not find a sunbed people were reserving sunbeds at 3am!! a lot of the sunbeds on the beach are broken and some of the ones round the pool.

The music played around the pools is brain damaging. ear shattering club music, so if you want to relax avoid the pool at all costs.

Entertainment is in the theatre at night but there is nothing else to do if you don't fancy this, some is quite good but other shows are amateurish.

Literally just arrived back two hours ago from the Hotel Grand Sirenis. Arriving at the hotel it looks great. This place is so large there are buggys to take you everywhere if you want too, which isn't so bad....if you could find one. Our room stank of mould when we arrived and every time we returned to our room we had to open the patio door to clear the air. We had no teaspoon at all, despite asking every day for one from the room steward. In your room you have tea and coffee making facility's....that's provided you only want either one cup of tea each or one cup of coffee each. They would only give you two sachets of milk each day, so if you had a tea first thing in the morning and fancied one before bed....forget it. We called and waited nearly three hours. In then end we persisted by phoning every quarter of an hour...it worked. You need to get up at five o'clock if you want to get a towel on a sun bed, that's just around the pools or the beach, if you want to be near any of the bars. The food is not very good. Its the basics...chips, hot dogs, burgers, salad, fruit. The best place to eat at lunchtime is the beach bbq...fabulous. It may have 8 restaurants but you cant use them all. You have to use the basic "smash and grab cafe" and then you get to choose three restaurants out of the eight that are there, and then hope you can get a table at your choice. We choose the "Cajun"...dont bother. The "Steak House"....ate chicken there though after being told by everyone that the steaks are too tough to chew. Then by this time we had found a fabulous restaurant in Playa Del Carmen, so we got onto the "Collectivo" bus and went there to eat. We went to cancel our booking at the Italian Restaurant...just to be polite and thinking that maybe someone else could use the table...but the concierge was not impressed...telling us.."you cant cancel you must give more than 24 hours notice" ok what are they going to do about it...not a lot and off we went. The diving centre guys are very good, we went snorkelling with the guys and that was well worth it. Jet skis are a bit too pricey. The collectivo is a small shuttle bus that runs around every 10 minutes from the top front gate, this side of the road takes you to Playa Del Carmen and stops en route, and the other side takes you to Tulum, with stops en route. FAR TOO BIG, AND ITS A COMPLEX NOT A RESORT. So if you don't do independent your stuck. Price for Collectivo for two is 70 pesos one way....hand it over and get off. You get dropped off at 15th avenue, immediately behind you is 10th avenue and then you walk a bit further and get to the famous 5th avenue, where all the shops are. Cozueml across the water is fabulous..ferry costs 365 pesos each return.

Room Tip: room 2113 is great is you want to sunbathe in your room first thing in the morning, then find a bed...
