We were travelling as a family of 7 -2 adults, 4 kids and a grandmother - We just got back from this resort and we loved it. The room was great - good size, clean, the mattress wasn't too bad (its never as good as home no matter where you go). We ate most of our breakfasts and lunches at the 'activities pool' buffet( which turns into the Steak House at night) and we have no complaints - good variety, great hamburgers and no one got sick. At night we either ate at the main buffet or the Steak House and we did one night at The Bayou Restaurant - we didn't love the Bayou -the staff was nice but the food we had wasn't that good ( we
talked to another couple who had ate there the same night and their food was good though so it depends on what you order). The main buffet had alot of variety and the food was good. They seemed to change the theme every night - there were mexican, italian and oriental nights that we noticed - so you weren't always having the same buffet every night.
The staff was awesome - they work so hard and long hours but were always friendly and smiling. The staff would never pass by you without saying hello or smiling.
The design of the resort is very modern but there is still alot of the natural jungle - we saw lots of animals which the kids found very exciting. The pools were great - we hung out alot by the activities pool - the activities going on were not too loud or obnoxious like at some other resorts we've been to in the past and there were activities for all ages. The beach was lovely, its a protected cove and the snorkeling is good, we saw lots of varieties of fish.
You never have a problem finding chairs on the beach or at the pool. We loved the lazy river.
We were never approached by anyone about timeshares - there was a note put in the door one day inviting us to a brunch or something which I assumed was probably the timeshare presentation - we just ignored it was never mentioned.
There are shows every night at the hotel and they were great entertainment - the Rock 'n' Roll show was awesome.
Our 6 year old went into the kids club twice and really liked it - the staff was really good with the kids . They take them to the beach, feeding the fish, the lazy river, the ice cream place, they even take them for lunch for you and have a movie later in the day.
This is a very large resort but it is not hard to get around, there are short cuts you can take to get to places quicker. You felt very safe here as well.
No surprising fees when we went to check out - everything was very smooth going.
We are pretty easy going people but if there were things to complain about we would be listing them. We were VERY happy with everything and are even trying to figure out how to get back there again next year. If you are going on a trip to have fun, enjoy the pool and beach and hang out with your family at a safe fun resort, then this is the place. If you are people who tend to find the negative in things and let little things ruin your trip then you aren't really going to be happy anywhere you go. We've been to the Mayan Riviera 7 times now and this place is wonderful.

Room Tip: Our room with the king sized bed had no glass divider between the bathroom and the bedroom so there...

I went to the Grand Sirenis Dec 4 - 11, with my wife and 2 kids aged 8 and 10 for our second time. We were there 2 years ago and loved it both times. The snorkelling is great and even our son tried it for his first time. Our kids loved rotating around the three pools each day.

The ice cream bar was great for an afternoon treat. My only disappointment was that the health bar was closed for renovations. We loved the health bar last time we were there.

Yes there is a lot of walking but the resort is beautiful so just take your time and look around. The beach isn't a long sandy stretch but that isn't what we look for in a beach. For us a good beach is a beach that has great snorkelling. Not many beaches have both.

I would be happy going back to this resort as it has what we look for in a resort. Pools for the kids, snorkelling for the adults and staff to wait on us. We also love the size of the rooms which are great for a family of four. And yes there are no closed off hallways so you will see bugs and vegetation outside your room,... its called nature.

Its a vacation, relax and enjoy the positives.

Room Tip: The riviera side or resort for less walking

This Grand Sirenis was the best hotel I've ever stayed in. I stayed for a week with my boyfriend and went with Thomas Cook. We went in December and the weather in the day was lovely, about 28 degrees but the sun set about 5pm and was slightly chilly at night. The rooms were very spacious, clean, included a mini bar and a fantastic jacuzzi bath. The view from our balcony was of the botantical gardens which was pretty but we were offered an ocean view room for an extra £177 which we declined as we were happy with our room.

The buffet food had a wide selection and they had themed nights and we always found food we enjoyed. You can make reservations to go to three a la carte restautants each week and we went to the Cajun, steakhouse and Brazilian restaurants which we both enjoyed, especially the Cajun! We loved the ice cream parlour and went nearly every day. There was a great service and the staff were always friendly and smiley and keen to help. It was nice that they came over to you on the beach and pool to see whether you wanted any drink.

The pools were really nice and there didn't have a big problem getting loungers as we up by the pool by about 8.30am. We loved the swim up bars in two of the pools and the lazy river! The beach is lovely and the mayan ruin makes it a bit more special. However, the sea is slightly rocky when you first walk in which makes it difficult to stand but my boyfriend said there are no rocks after about a couple of metres. I had a massage on the beach (about £35) which I would recommend.

The only thing the hotel lacked would have been another bar to go to in the evening, maybe on the beach, as there was only the lobby bar (where we sometimes found it hard to get a seat and there wasn't as much atmosphere) and the bar in the theatre. The staff put a lot of effort into the theatre productions which changed each night. We only went to the rock show which we enjoyed.

I highly recommend the trip to Chitchen Itza which includes a visit to a cenote on the way back. Even though it's a long day, it's great to see mayan villages. The tour guides were very informative but perhaps went into too much detail on each particular ruin so we felt we maybe didn't see all the ruins as we didn't have much free time after the tour. It did include a really nice buffet at a hotel as well. I would advise to take your photos during the tour if you can as may not have time afterwards.

Overall, I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking to chill out and I would recommend the Chitchen Itza tour. The hotel's little feature, such as the jacuzzi bath, lazy river and ice cream parlour made this hotel different from the others.

We just returned from our 3rd trip to Grand Sirenis and as usual had a great time. However, Grand Sirenis is not for everyone. First it is not a 5 star resort. There are alot of little details such as cracked plaster, tile, missing electrical fixtures, unreplaced lights, loose handrails, worn out furnishings that would not happen at a 5 star resort. That being said they do not charge 5 star prices and still have most of the amenities. We are a recently retired couple that enjoy snorkling, which is why we go to Grand Sirenis. The snorkling right off the beach is great. Plenty of fish and living coral. The beach or rather beaches are rocky and water shoes are recommended although not necessary. We have never had a problem finding a spot on the beach and the beach girls taking drink orders from 10 to 5 is great. Over our three visits we have eaten at all the A la Carte restaurants and found the food to be spotty. The main buffet is pretty typical of buffet food. There are many choices with a number of cook to order choices. The staff is very friendly and helpful. By booking through Apple vacations we received a free water spa treatment, which was great, and a beach party with entertainment. The entertainment was good. In the group we saw there were only dancers and no singers, but that varies since most of the entertainers are on 6 to 8 month contracts.
We spent all of our time at the beach so we can't comment on the pools, but we did use the "lazy river" each day which was very relaxing

The resort is dated and is definitely showing its age.
The buffet food was quite disappointing. The a-la-carte restaurants were much better. I would recommend the Japanese, the Mexican was average and the steakhouse was poor.
The beach was quite rocky and not great for kids. However, the free scuba diving was pretty good.
The rooms were very spacious and quite clean. However, they were nothing special.
The pool was good for kids and the swim up bar was a nice touch. The lazy river was pretty cool.
The resort is big and does offer quite a few activities. However, none of them were particularly exciting.
The weather was fantastic.

Short and sweet.

PROS

Customer service was excellent. Bar service at the beach...they bring it right to you...no need to get up. Bar service elsewhere was excellent

Drinks - very good selection

A la carte restaurants - excellent

Rooms - size was great

Chairs - lots to select from

Concierge service - excellent

Customer service is what makes this a 4 star

Fully stocked bar fridge daily

jacuzzi tub was nice

Water pressure not an issue

Snorkling off the beach is handy

CONS

Bed were hard as a rock and the linens needs to be changed...very dirty and outdated
Buffet was always cold and lacked selection - they need more "fresh/hot" zones
Games lacked originality - very boring
Many tiles around the pool needed replacing
General updating required - hard to believe this resort is only 5 years old...starting to show it's age already
Shower stalls had mold
Would have liked more shopping areas within the resort
Only one spot on the beach where you could swim

Room Tip: I was in 1115...close to the main pool and main lobby and very quiet

Our family is very used to walking into a beautifully decorated lobby with no walls. This resort was a solid marble white walls with a little desk and no views. There were nothing but bushes everywhere with a break every once in awhile with 5 gallon buckets, lumber, and tools. The view from our room was like looking into a forest at home with not even 1 palm tree. We asked about ocean view rooms and they said they were completely booked. After checking in, the people behind us were offered ocean view rooms for an upcharge.

We walked around the resort and checked out the beach. We knew that it wasn't soft sand and it was a little rocky but we didn't think it would be that bad. It was cool for the people with shoes on to walk over the rocks out a little bit.

We stopped to eat dinner to hope that it was good but my mom got sick (she's been to mexico, dom rep, turks and caicos, etc and never has gotten sick).

Like I said before we are not picky people and we were excited after seeing a lot of good reviews. We were saying we never thought we would find a resort we didn't like. I've been to two 3 apple resorts and they were soo much better than this.

In the morning we were hung out by the swim up bar and pool and did have fun for the day until our pick up to switch hotels at 3pm. After all of us gathering in the lobby we found that over HALF of our group of 10 had BED BUG BITES over our arms and legs. I've never had them before and it was a dirty feeling!

We switched to the RIU Yucatan and couldn't believe the comparison. RIU Yucatan was AMAZING!!! I believe that is only rated a 3 star and we all LOVED it. Grand Sirenis would be rated 1 or 2 in our books.
