“So close to 5 star!”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 13, 2014

We stayed 6/21-28. Got upgraded upon arrival and got a lot of extra goodies (bathrobes, bottle of tequila, extra pool towels, fruit basket, etc). We enjoyed our stay.
What we liked: beautiful room, we were close to lobby, trams convenient, nice lobby bars, great coffee, exceptional staff.
What we didn't: AC was spotty at best, overall the food was good but spotty, long pants at a la cartes (just too hot for that). Other than the ac these things were minor. We would definately go back. Very relaxing. We were pleasantly surprised! Shout out to Gabriela at Akumal spa for great massage (plus getting us a discount). We will look you up on next trip!!

We recently stayed at the coba section with our 1 yr old son and although the resort was beautiful and well kept it was just too large. We had a couple of issues with the shuttle service through out the resort that did get resolved once we complained but who wants to waste precious time complaining on holidays. We were also sure to give tips to the people who helped maintain our room but still had some of our sons items taken. Had anyone asked we would have shared what we had so that was disappointing.

The buffets were great lots of variety, tons of places to stop for drinks or snack s. g
Great beach, just way to far to travel with small children.

Nice places for families who want a big resort with lots to do and don't mind r
A little traveling to get to things.

We apprieciate that even your experience was not the perfect one, you still mentioned some things you enjoyed.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 12, 2014

My family and I (four people in total) had a blast on our holiday vacation to the wonderful “Grand Bahia Principe Coba!” We stayed there from June 16, 2014 to June 22, 2014 and we are planning to return to this fabulous resort next year. To begin with, the ride from the airport to the resort took around one hour and twenty minutes. This gave us a great opportunity to rest from our flight. When we arrived at the Premier Lobby and started the check-in process, we were offered margaritas and lemonade to cool off. The front desk personnel at the Premier lobby were very welcoming. We wanted to make an A la Carte reservation right away, but the computer system was a bit slow and did not work. When we came back on our second day, Jasmine was more than happy to help us with our reservation for “El Pescador” even though there were still problems with the system. Since the reservation was to celebrate a wedding anniversary, Jasmine and other personnel surprised us with a flower arrangement at our table in “El Pescador”. The manager and the waiter who were there provided wonderful, efficient service for us. Thank you for making this anniversary so special! The waiters at the “Kukulcan” buffet were exceptional, very professional and brought our favorite tea along with many other drinks very quickly.
Thank you to the trolley drivers for making our vacation that much more enjoyable with their kind smiles and quick, efficient service which allowed us to relax while they took us to any location in the resort within minutes.
A big Thank You also goes to Flor, the wonderful lady who cleaned one of our rooms (Room#: 32408) and always left a marvelous towel creation on our bed. Our two adjacent rooms were located in building 24B. The rooms were very spacious and the temperature in the rooms were always perfect. It was very easy to see cute Coati, Iguanas, and other creatures from inside of our room.
The entertainment at this resort is amazing! The Elvis mini-show in the lobby and the “Lobby Casino” were very unique and entertaining. The night shows at this resort are performed at a very high, professional level and are very captivating. Thank You very much to the dancers/performers who endured the heat and exhaustion each night just to make our vacation even more enjoyable. All of the shows that we attended during our stay were highly enjoyed by us! It was also very nice to be able to enjoy the entertainment at all three parts of the resort (COBA, AKUMAL, and TULUM) during the day. Since, AKUMAL was closer to the COBA part of the beach, we enjoyed the entertainment and the buffets at only these two parts of the resort. The Animation Teams at COBA and AKUMAL make everyone feel happy and welcome with their positive attitudes, great dancing, and fun contests! Thank You to the COBA entertainment team, especially Victor #1 (the dance/Zumba instructor at COBA), Ramon, Victor #2, Lalo, Gabriela, Aurora, Jesus, “Babyface”, Irma, Alfonso, Paula, and the Evening Show Host (I am sorry, but I forgot her name now) who all made our stay so much fun and made us feel like their very close friends! Thank You to the AKUMAL entertainment team, especially Luis-Angel, Jorge, and Alain who all made the day at the beach more exciting and fun while we took part in Zumba, water aerobics, volleyball, and their “Crazy Games” every day! The Beach Party on Saturday 6/21/2014 was very enjoyable and entertainers from all three parts of the resort came together to make it very engaging! This gave us a chance to meet a lot of entertainers from TULUM like Fernando (I am sorry, but I forgot the names of a few other entertainers). The Paella for the Beach party and other meals prepared by the AKUMAL pool (almost every day) were very delicious! On one of the days, there was even a Mariachi playing while the meal was being prepared.
After a fun day at the beach, we usually got back to the COBA activity pool around 3:30 or 4:00. Once the evening activities (along with our favorite dance lessons led by Victor #1) were done, we got ready for dinner and we thoroughly enjoyed the Kukulcan buffet. There was a lot of variety of food and everything tasted great, especially the ice cream and the desserts. The chefs really went all out with all of their wonderful creations!
Once we watched the fabulous night shows, we went to “Hacienda Dona Isabel” which is about five or seven minutes away on a trolley. There was live music there every night starting at 10:30 and ending at around 11:30. Dancing in the "Hacienda Dona Isabel" with the various Animation Team members from COBA, AKUMAL, and TULUM was really fun! All of them have so much energy that it is very hard to sit while the music is playing and they are dancing. Thank You for teaching us how to dance each night! A special Thank You goes to Victor #1 and Luis-Angel once again who taught us how to dance a proper Merengue and other fun dances.
With all of this being said, Thank You very much for such an amazing vacation! We were enchanted by how nice the whole property looked and how nice all of the staff was! Keep that up! We are really looking forward to returning next year to this resort and we hope to see the awesome animators who made our stay so special, especially Victor #1, Ramon, Lalo, Jorge, and Luis-Angel! MUCHAS GRACIAS POR TODO! HASTA EL PROXIMO ANO! :)
If anyone has any questions, please don't hesitate to ask!

This was our first visit to Mexico and we had a great holiday, but we felt it could have been even better.
First the good points about the hotel -
The staff are wonderful, the grounds are immaculate and the restaurant and bar staff were always pleasant and helpful. Although the hotel is huge, we never had any problems in getting served and nothing seemed to be too much trouble.
The food was generally very good. We enjoyed all the a la carte restaurants, particularly the Japanese, the seafood and the gourmet restaurants. The buffet was also OK and we particularly enjoyed breakfasts in the Cozumel restaurant - it was a good walk from our room but it is lovely to stroll around the grounds early in the morning before the sun gets too hot.
The wildlife is fascinating - there are coatis (like small racoons), real racoons and iguana all over the grounds. There are signs everywhere asking people not to feed the animals, but it was obvious that many do as the coatis seemed to be quite tame, particularly near the snack bar areas.
Our room was large and pleasant and the air conditioning kept it nice and cool.
The First Choice reps were helpful and although we do not normally book organised excursions we did the one to the Mayan ruins at Coba and thoroughly enjoyed it. It is also easy to get around by taxi, which the staff at the front of the lobby area will arrange.
Although parts of the complex are quite a way from the beach, the transport carts run round the site constantly and there is never a very long wait to get to where you want to go.
However, there were a couple of things we did not like about the hotel, which made it less than five stars in our opinion.
Firstly - as others have mentioned there are nowhere near enough sunbeds and all those in the shade have been reserved with towels long before 7am. There are signs asking people not to leave their towels and disappear, but it is apparent that this is a real problem.
Secondly, nearly all the bar areas close at 11pm.
We were also unhappy about the dolphinarium on the site - the hotel claims to be very eco-friendly but the dolphins are kept in a very confined area which seems to be a contradiction of this.
We were also disappointed that the pools are not really deep enough to swim in without catching your knees on the bottom.
If you've booked to go to this hotel you'll have a great holiday but with a little more effort from the Bahia management it could be fantastic.

Room Tip: Go and see the ruins at Coba & Tulum and the turtles at Akamal.

Apreciatted Charlie,

I would like to take this opportunity to thank you for the review of your recent stay; it will certainly help us to keep focus on customer satisfaction and fulfillment of our hotel standards.

Thank you for bringing to our attention your perception abou the sun beds situation, depth of pool and the dolphinarium; some of the problems you mentioned are totally are under our standards and we will be taking action in order to meet our values again.

We are sorry for your disagreement of the dolphinarium in the hotel complex; this attraction is being in hands of a professional organization, as an enterprise with experience in the building of a controlled habitat in specially created aquariums. The dolphins have never known the open seas experience as they are born in captivity which is not an excuse or explanation to defend this activity, but information we want to give to our concerned customers.

Once again thank you for your time, hoping to have a second opportunity in a near future,

Sincerely,

Brisa Islas

We have been to the Coba 7 times now and have never had a bad experience yet. My husband and I have been 6 and I just took my girlfriend for a relaxing great time in June 2014.If anyone complains about this resort they don't deserve to go on holidays. The service is great, grounds well manicured, food is very good especially the Gourmet and Mikado alacarts ( my favorites ) For the value you cant go wrong. The pools are kept very clean and if you prefer the beach it is a quick trolley ride away.(you can walk and its still a quick 10 to 15 minutes away depending on where you are. The entertainment is fun and if you miss it at the Coba you can go to the Talum or Akumal another day. The resort is large but easy to get around with the trolley service located all over the grounds. The employees are awesome and very accomadating and helpful. If you like to shop, the hacienda is close by and it's like a strip mall. Its a great place to go if you dont want to leave the resort to shop. If you like change you can hop over to at the Talum or Akumal resorts. The water park Xelha and many other activities are close by also. It is a bit of a bus ride from Cancun but we think its well worth it.I have always felt very safe and well taken care of. We are going back in January with our entire family for my sons wedding. Cant wait. Try it you will love it !!

Room Tip: We have stayed in rooms located all over the resort. We find no matter where you are once you get us...
