I don't understand how people can complain about this resort, It must be little things that bother them because in our 7 days there our stay was amazing. We've been to other places before but never Mexico. This resort is huge. So much to do. The staff are beyond nice, extremely friendly and have such a great sense of humor. They would go above and beyond for you if you have any questions or concerns. The rooms are nice. Very clean. Beds are pretty firm which was one of my concerns with staying there but it wasn't a problem at all. Slept great!! The food was good. I recommend the Japanese restaurant. Wonderful. Our stay was amazing. ONLY complaint is the beach isn't like beaches at other places I've stayed in. You cant go very deep because they have it blocked off BUT we found a nice spot on the tulum.beach which was beautiful. Wear comfy shoes because it is a BIG resort.

Room Tip: I stayed in 6B and it was VERY quiet. Just a view of trees which was nice. Lots of animals out befor...

My wife and I have just returned from a wonderfull week at the "Grand Bahia Principe Coba Resort". We stayed from March 31/14 to April 7/14. Just a great week for a "break from all this White Stuff" (HA! HA!). The resort is quite large but getting around was not all that complicated, as we reviewed the map and got our bearings we found it quite easy to get around the resort with ease.

We were in Building #4, on the third floor which was very nice and very quiet. We had purchased the "Royal Golden Club" and this has some perks but certainly does not live up to all the "hype". Booking "A la Cartes" was a task, as one person informs you of one starting time while another gives you something totally different. We were entitled to "Four" A la Carte Reservations but had to plead and beg to get an early time such as 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. or else you could expect to eat at 9:30 or 10:00P.M. I personally don't know who likes to eat at those "Late" times, not me.

All in all , the Restaurants we did eat at were simply great and the Staff went above and beyond to make sure everything was to your satisfaction. The "Bar" Staff through out the Resort were all very professional and quite courteous with a smile on their face.

We spent most of our time at "Akumal Beach", which was only about a "Five" minute walk from our Room. Some might not like this but after Breakfast a nice walk helps you digest and therefore that little bit of exercise was very beneficial. We walked the Beach around to the "Coba and Tulum Beach". They are larger and perhaps a little nicer beach than "Akumal" but a lot more congestion. You really don't have a lot of personal space.

At the time that we were guests of the Resort, the hotels were all quite full but still bearable.

I was quite surprised to see a "CASINO" on the property, having been told a few years earlier that Mexico was opposed to bringing them in. The Casino offered some Slots, Table Games such as Blackjack, Roulette. Everyone seemed to enjoy the excitement of a little gaming.

The "Coba" has lots to offer and is a very Family oriented as well as couples and singles as well.

We would return in a minute, thanks for the Memories.

Room Tip: Buildings #3, 4, 5 area good choice as you are close enough to the beach and also a short hop step a...

We were central to a lot of main attractions. Got to visit Playa Del Carmen, swam with the turtles in Akumal, visited the Mayan Ruins in Tulum, and went to Xel Ha. All in one week! The resort was huge, too much to see in just a short stay though. That's probably why many return there again and again.

Second year in a row at Grand Bahia Principe Coba with two other families, ages 7-17. Had a great time hanging out each day at the beach, snorkeling, playing in the pool, and visiting Akumal and the Lagoon nearby. Stayed closer to the Premier lobby this time which made it easier to spend each day at the beach and then end at the pool. Treated like royalty second time around as "repeaters - click that box off when you check in."

Room Tip: Near Premier lobby (in between Coba and Akumal) is awesome!

We went on a mother daughter vacation to the Coba for one week. We booked the royal golden and it was great.
This resort is huge and sometimes walking was nice and on really hot days the trollies were a blessing lol.
We never saw the whole Coba resort in the week we were there. But we didn't need to either.
The food was great in the buffet, we tried something new everyday. We did notice the omelet station was always busy on the right side and the other on the left was usually quiet so we took advantage of that.

We only did 3 a la cartes: Mikado, el Pescador, Oasis (in the Cozumel buffet at night). We enjoyed all of them.

The beach was fantastic. We went early at 7:30 am the first day to get a chair and yes they were filling fast.
We did what everyone seems to do and dropped our towels on chairs and some magazines then went for breakfast and came back an hour later. I felt guilty about it but everyone does it so it leaves you no choice.
At about 1pm a lot of people do leave for the day so lots of chairs available then.
We saw some topless girls in their 20s which surprised us a little but didn't bother us.
We took advantage of the Jacuzzi pool as it was cool water and very quiet with its own bar.
We stayed in building 28 in Coba and it was a perfect location as it was close to everything.
We noticed through the week getting a trolley to the hacienda or tulum was a major issue. We waited at Coba for 30min one day and one never came. The staff was even confused where they were as they weren't getting responses on the radio.
This happened a few times on different days. They tell you the red topped trolleys go to all lobbies and the hacienda and the driver will only go to some here and there. Frustrating but if you luck out and get one to Tulum the hacienda is a short was straight up the path from tulum lobby.

We travelled April 1 to 8 and perfect weather. The staff is amazing at all levels.
The grounds are gorgeous.
We would have liked a little more on resort activity other than bars but I hear they are changing the brand name of this resort in November 2014 so maybe other things will change.
We would probably come back one day with a larger group but I compared it to the Barcelo tropical maya and there are some differences. The Barcelo was more my style. But Coba was great. More beach and pool chairs would be a huge stress relief for people.

We have always stayed at the Bahia Principe's all over the Dominican Republic. This was our first stay in Mexico and the Bahia Principe Coba did not disappoint. With excellent service, excellent food, immaculate grounds and beautiful beach, we thoroughly enjoyed our 2 week stay from March 15th to the 29th.

This was my second time at this hotel. My first time was in 2008 and it was memorable and very nice! I came back at the end of March 2014 to show this wonderful place to my girlfriend. We will certainly come back! Bring your mask and tuba, there is a lot of fishes just next to the beach into the ocean. It is clean, the food is amazing, the people are very nice there!
