“Great time,great resort!”
Reviewed November 4, 2012

We are a young couple in our early 20's and stayed there for 1 week from oct 17th to 24th. We had a great time, all the staff are amazing and really went out of their way for you. The room was nice, spacious and clean,my only complaint was it did have an odd musty smell, but we didn't spend much time in our room anyways. We stayed at the coba resort, we didn't have any problems, there are always trolleys that come along to take you all over the resort and to the other resorts and beach. Beach was nice, I've seen nicer in the riviera maya, but was still nice, some days it was so windy, that it wasn't really enjoyable to be at the beach, but not the hotels fault. We ate at all the different buffets, our favorite was the one at coba, big selection of food, only complaint was most of the food was pretty bland with little seasoning, but I guess that's what to expect at a place that caters to so many people. We went to 3 of the a la carte restaurants the Japanese was the best, we were told when we booked it that we wouldn't get the show, but they managed to squeeze us n at a table, wich was awesome, great service, defiantly get the show! Then we went to the French restaurant, that was really good as well, last we went to the Mediterranean, wich unfortunately was terrible, the only place where we had terrible service, my bf had to remind the waiter twice to get his drink, food was not very good and the table we were sitting at had red ants all over the floor, that bit me all over as I was wearing sandals,so it made for an uncomfortable dinner( this is the only complaint I have for this resort) besides that everything else was fantastic, also check out the nightly entertainment, as it's awesome , not sure if we will return right away as we are young and want to check out other places, but would defiantly reccomend to everyone, as it caters to everyone of all ages, had a great time, thank you all at gran Bahia principe coba !

Everything you look for in a getaway is completed 100% perfectly by this chain. The place is gorgeous, clean, and (very important) awesome buffet that we would look forward to eating in 3 times a day. In my city, there's the best food in the world, but Gran Bahia has the best buffet I have ever seen.

It's cheap, safe, and full of options if additional activities are wanted. You can't go wrong with all inclusive. Animation on the beach, shuttles from lobby to lobby (they're fast), beach is right there, awesome food, clean, beautiful, and liquor is part of the all inclusive deal- you can't go wrong with coming here.

I've been to this same chain in Dominican Republic. Same fantastic results :)

I would just like to say that the staff there are beyond anything I as nd my husband could ever want or expected. We have been there 5 times and are booked for April again already. I recommend this hotel to everyone and once they have been they won't go anywhere else. At this time I would like to give special kudos to Felix Schlokat, guest services at Coba, absolutely excellent in his job! We also truly enjoyed Victor at Coba who was in charge of the bellman. In his employ were Vincent and Christian also great at their jobs. Our favorite little cocktail girl was Ophelia. She made our evenings. And I also enjoyed Nidia in the buffett for breakfast. We are looking foward to April already again.

My wife (35) and I (33) went to this resort Oct3 to 10th 2012. This will be our 3rd Gran Bahia Principe we have been to in the past 2 years. We have also been to Gran Bahia Principe Punta Cana Royal Golden Dominican Republic and Gran Bahia Principe Runaway Bay Jamaica.

WE emailed a head of time to book our reservations and building locations. Our reservations were made for us but we werent put anywhere near the location we requested. We also requested the Royal Golden upgrade as our booking agent said she couldnt find that options. We didnt not get that service either bit we spoke to some guests who got the upgrade without even asking for it. A bit disappointing!!!

Resort - This resort is MASSIVE! WAY to big! its made up of 3 big resorts. The Coba does NOT have a beach on site. You have to take a "golf cart" type trolley to Telum and use a beach named Coba.

Flight and Transit - Flight was with WestJet out of Toronto. Average flight great customer service from the flight crew. The drive from the airport to the hotel is killer, just under 2hrs. Thank god that we only made 1 stop at a different hotel or else it would have been longer. I suggest asking the bus driver how many stops and if its more then 2 take a taxi and get a direct drive.

Check In - You are welcomed with a drink and for us there wasn't much of a line so it was very fast. Your bags will meet you at your room a very short time after you.

Rooms - If you have been to any other Gran Bahia Principe then you'll recognize this decor. Its the same. Nice set up, nothing spectacular but has everything you need. We Stayed in 32903 and it smelt VERY musty. We are use to the usual Caribbean must room smell but this was pretty bad. The bed was like sleeping on bricks and the pillows smelt and we damp even after we requested them to be changed. The AC didn't really work and by about the 3rd day all our clothes and sheet smelt and we damp. We heard similar complaints from other guests.

Grounds - They grounds are gorgeous as they should be. Iguanas everywhere and a racoon type animal walking around.

Buffets - There are 3 buffets between the 3 resorts and you can use them all. Each night they all seemed to have different food and it was nice to have a change of scenery. We found that the food at the Coba was kind of the same everyday with a few variations. The breakfast was usually cold eggs so get them made fresh. We both kind of ate the same thing every day. When you walk in the main entry to the buffet go up the small steps and sit to the right. The service was WAY better.

Poolside restaurant - We had lunch here everyday. It was the usual burgers, hotdog, chicken, salads, nachos, fries, fruit etc. Great Service.

Ala Cartes - Not really sure how many there are but we went to the Italian, Brazilian and skipped the Japanese. The Italian they treat as a high class place and demand long pants and close toe shoes but the food was the worst we had during out trip. The service was GREAT! Brazilian was a meatfest. Sharpen your knife and bring your appetite but the service was terrible. We got ignored and had to almost beg for a beverage with our meal.

Pools - The Coba has 2 huge pools both with swim up bars. Ones a quiet pool and the other has music. Don't expect much activities because besides dancing by the pool, zumba, water aerobics and bingo they don't do much. The Bartenders are awesome. They can make anything and everything.

Beach - The beach is about a 6 minute trolley ride but gorgeous. TONS of fish right off the shore. White sands and warm water.

Hosienda - Had all the stores, main square, sports bar, disco and events.

Mexican Fiesta - It was fun but NOT worth $15 US. Pretty much you are paying to ride the mechanical bull, which my wife did. Classic!

Overall - The resort is massive but is has an extensive trolley system to get you around. If you are here for the ability to walk to the beach then not for you. We found the resort nice but not up to the usual Bahia Principe standards.

If your set on Mexico then I would suggest staying at Telum as it has everything that Coba has but is right on the beach. If not the try the GRan Bahia in Punta Cana or Runaway Bay those are the 2 best resorts out of the 10 we've been to.

We stayed at the GBP Coba for two wonderful weeks! Our trip was amazing from start to finish! We used USA Transfers for our transportation and they were great, professional and on time. We would use this service again without hesitation. Upon arrival at the resort we were surprised with an upgrade to the Royal Golden section. Carlos did an amazing job of getting us checked in and booking our a la carte reservations. Carlos was polite and professional and made us feel very welcome. Our room was clean and comfortable and remained that way throughout our stay. We were always greated with a smile and a hello from all of the staff throughout the complex. Food was good in the buffet and wonderful in the restaurants. Our waiter Andres in the main buffet did a fantastic job and by day two would have our cappuccino waiting for us when returned from getting our made to order eggs. Andres had a constant smile and was consistently friendly, a wonderful way to start each day! Victor at the front entry to the Coba lobby deserves special mention as well. So friendly and helpful and again another smiling face that made us feel welcome and at home. This was our second time at GBP Coba and it won't be our last, can't wait to return next year!! Thank you GBP Coba!!!!!

Excellent place to relax with your family. Very clean property, nice landscape, lawns, pools. Was very impressed and amused by various wildlife like lizzards, raccoons, etc. Among a la carte restaurants I'd recommend the most "La gourmet", Mikado, Japanese cousine is a good choice too. Buffets have good variety of food, snacks and sweet treats, although sometimes the food was oversalted. The only inconvenience I felt was rocky and shallow beach - you have to walk a distance on the rocks before water becomes above your chest and you can actually enjoy swimming. Visiting dolphins show is a must - very sensational experience. Overall my vacation was worth every penny I paid.

Top quality resort. I loved it from the moment I arrived. Not quite the accommodation we were sold by the travel agent, but that was not the Bahias fault. The pools are well kept. The beaches are great. We have already decided to come bak to this reort and we havnt even left yet! Roll on 2013!
P.S. The staff are amazing! Anyone who says a bad word about these hard working, friendly people are spoilt brats who should take a good long look in the mirror.
