“fabulous holiday!!”
Reviewed October 24, 2012

we have had a great stay at the bahia principe coba, we have found very little to fault it. rooms lovely and clean, well decorated, 6ft bed really comfy, food best choices we have ever had, i think something for everyone, gourmet restaurants were great really enjoyed the brazillian, cannot fault the happy smiling staff nothing was too much trouble for them, the resort is large but the little trains that went round were excellent and would stop for you wherever you were, drinks were plentiful and there were no rules about ammounts etc, the pool bar staff ,paulino, federico, andres, and also anyone i have forgotten worked so hard all day without complaint, the mojitos were excellent!! thanks to victor, jose and juan (bellboys) who amongst others made my mothers stay so much more comfortable. the restaurant staff had our table reserved nearest to the food, alfredo and gustavo were superb as were they all. the snack bar at our pool was great for lunch, carlos did not stop work most days we saw him, what a great little asset to the team, thanks also to the chef who made my mother special grilled fish it was much appreciated, and last but not least thanks to deyner for her lovely smile and singing! will be back soon thanks again to all concerned .
To the powers that be ,one small critiscism i think lights out in the lobby bar at 11pm is too early midnight would be more reasonable.

What can we say? Tulum is on fire! We absolutely loved Tulum. I went with two of my girlfriends for a week (october 16th-23rd) and just got back yesterday. To start, the service in Mexico is amazing anywhere you go. This is my second trip to Mexico and I would totally go back despite all the things that have happened there.
First off, if you are a family, couple, wedding party etc... this place is for you! There are tons of those people there. Now, if you are young and single, with a couple girlfriends wanting to mingle and meet people, this may not be your first choice. That was us. BUT.. needless to say... we still had an amazing time. People kept asking us why we werent in Cancun because we were so young, but we didnt care for the packed and younger crowd. Were all in our mid 20s and didnt want to go somewhere where everyone was too much younger then us.

Second: This is what made our trip. The entertainment crew. I kid you not, they're awesome people and they work really hard to make your trip an enjoyable one. And they really made ours. Shout out to Israel, Jorge, Archie, Carlos, Christian, etc. They are amazing guys and they are full of energy. We love you guys and were going to come back!

The main pool with the swim up bar is the place to be. Thats where all the games and mingling happens. Get involved in the games, they're alot of fun. Crisanto is the swim up bar bartender. He is the sweetest and super quick at making drinks.

The entertainment at night isnt to bad either. We really liked going to Haciendas disco/shops which was a quick 2 minute little golf cart ride and its right on the resort. Also make sure you go to Coco Bongo. If you like the club scene + a night of entertainment.. GO. It does tons of different live shows throughout the night. The bus usually leaves around 9 and gets back after 3am... so its a long night, but worth it. A basic ticket is $65 ish and thats for the ride there and back plus all inclusive drinks.

We also did two excursions, first one was Catamaya which was a catamaran ride, snorkelling, alcohol included, dance party, plus an amazing lunch. the lunch consisted of your choice of steak, or lobster or chicken. I got the steak, really good. And i tried a friends lobster... and i dont like lobster.. it was amazing. Second excursion was Jungle maya. this is kind of like Xplor but more natural. You do ziplining, snorkelling and swimming.. we enjoyed it alot. they also feed you a traditional mexican lunch.. very filling and really good. also, its cheaper then xplor.

The buffet always had a great selection. We went to it alot. Manuel was our breakfast server, he is the sweetest and so polite and is very quick at his job.. tip him well, he deserves it. Along with everyone else on the resort, they rely on their tips.

Our room was beautiful, we had a distant view of the dolphins and a little bit of the ocean so that was nice. The room is clean and you can play your ipod through the tv if you play around with it. You do have to pay for the safe key though, which was $4 a day. Also, Make sure you bring American money!

Overall, we enjoyed every single minute and we are already saving to go back next year!!!

-Sincerely, The Swag Girls.

We are currently sat in Cancun airport waiting for our flight back to the UK. What can I say - this really has been a wonderful holiday! We stayed at the Bahia Principe Tulum Hacienda section and can find nothing to complain about. The food is lovely (favourite was definitely Don Pablo & Tequila). The staff at this resort are very efficient, hard-working and lovely and everywhere is very clean. The rooms are lovely, the long beach fabulous and there are so many restaurants to chose from and all types of food. The wildlife is amazing - we especially loved the koatis and many iguanas, and all the beautiful birds (pelicans included) and butterflies. We flew here with Thomas Cook (their reps at this resort are shockingly bad and disinterested, but fortunately the wonderful Mexican staff make ip for the reps failings!). The resort has so much to offer and we would definitely go back. Can highly recommend

we stayed as a wedding party of 15 at this vast hotel complex from 11th- 25th aug 2012 , be warned people if you haven't long hauled before its a long traveling day.
on arrival at our chosen destination we were greeted with a welcome drink and booked in to our rooms after a slight mix up with the rooms!! we where given a lift on the hotels transportation to our block in the hacienda part of the hotel .
The rooms where basic but kept very clean by the army of cleaners and workers that work very hard to keep this vast place in tip top condition although our room was a little cramped for my party of 3 and my only complaint was that some of the wedding party where given champagne on arrival to our rooms and we as the wedding couple had a bowl of fruit.
we were also given a slip of paper on the bus when arriving at our destination by the drivers mate for the thomas cook welcome party that was planned for 9am the next day it would have been better to have left it till the afternoon so the people in the party could get over the travelling day.
as for the thomas cook rep not very helpful at all and a waste of time you where far better off seeing the very helpful reception desk who where more than happy to help if you had a complaint.
The food was good as were most of the restaurants , the Mexican tequila was the best but to be fair there all very good . having to use the tuk- tuks the golf carts to get to most made it feel like you where travelling outside the resort.
The wedding coordinator jasmin ortiz and her party where brilliant and very very helpful not like the thomas cook wedding team back here in the uk who gave us the wrong information about the paperwork that was required and translated prior to us going to mexico.so if your getting mixed messages about what paperwork to take please check with your wedding coordinator at your chosen hotel ( thank you jasmin ortiz so much ) the wedding day was one of the best days of our life's all went fantastically well a big heart felt thank you to all involved.
on a down side to the holiday the mozies where savages you need 100% deet i purchased mine in the uk prior to going and is well recommended i only got a few bites not like the others in the party who got bitten a lot . this may have been down to the time of year that we traveled
all in all its one of the best hotels we have ever stayed in and will return

We spent two weeks at the Grand Bahia in Aug/Sept 2012, we had booked two rooms in the 'Exclusive' Club Diamond section. The hotel setting is magnificent, the gardens are immaculate and the facilities appear amazing at first glance. Club Diamond is advertised with lots of 'extras' however the only one worthwhile is the extra a la carte meal per week. Free internet in the exclusive lobby is also available in the main lobby and the exclusive breakfast restaurant has less choice than the main restaurant. We did enjoy the quieter atmosphere in the Club Diamond lobby, but not when the staff closed the bar at 9:30!
The waiting and bar staff in the main self service restaurant and bars were less than attentive, appearing to be more concerned with ensuring the smooth running of the service than the needs of the guests - we regularly waited over 20 minutes for drinks to be served as the staff had a habit of taking many multiple orders before going to the bar for service. Admittedly there is nothing to stop guests going to the bar directly, but why have bar waiters? It felt like a ruse to slow down the consumption of drinks!
We did love the self serve strawberry daquari slush around the pool bar.
The a la carte restaurants are a highlight, with the self service restaurant becoming repetitive despite a wide choice, but book as early as possible to get reasonable dining times - I did hear that other guests had booked online prior to arrival, but can't confirm that.
Some of the bell boys and housekeeping staff did go out of their way to be helpful, but that was the exception not the rule for the rest of the staff, with the Club Diamond staff making us feel like an inconvenience for wanting to stay in the bar until 10pm!
Overall we had a good holiday, but my average rating is based on the hotel's attempts to not quite be as up market as it thinks it is.

Room Tip: For a chance of a sea view ask for the 2nd floor - not guaranteed though as the blocks are in garden...

Dear Guest:

First and foremost, thank you for taking the time to communicate your opinion about your last stay at the Gran Bahia Principe Resort

We are happy to see that there are elements of the hotel that you quite enjoyed, however we are very concerned to read that your experience with us did not live up to our usual level of service concerning the service at the bars and especially the Club Diamond section. We have already shared it with our food and beverages manager in order to improve and enhance quality. Indeed, your well being and entire satisfaction is our primary goal.
Nevertheless, we do hope that you took treasured moments from your vacation at Gran Bahia Principe Tulum back home with you.

I hope these shortfalls will not tarnish your overall impression and deter you from staying with us. It would be our privilege to welcome you back in the near future, giving us another opportunity to make sure you have a great and unforgettable stay.

We have just returned from the Gran Bahia Tulum from our 2 week honeymoon - What can I say it was amazing such a lovely place, the rooms were cleaned everyday and towels changed everyday is well my little boy loved going back to see what animal made out of a towel was going to be on his bed. The resort is massive and you can use Tulum, Akamel and Coba hotels is well. Make sure you book your al a carte restaurants as soon as you have checked in as you wont get into them otherwise. The best was La Gran Tortuga (Brazlian Tulum) they give you a card with one side red other green and will just keep bringing meat out until you turn the card over to stop, they bring steak out medium rare but if you want it cooked more they will, its lovely our other favourite was Mikado (Japanise Coba) Fab fab fab but if you dont like fish soup give that a miss! Dolce Vita and Mediterraneo were also amazing. Tequila was mozzy city but the salmon was good. We visited the buffets as well and the breakfasts were lovely choose your own fillings for the omelettes.
They have little taxis that take you to each hotel to save your legs.
The beach was amazing and swimming with the Dolphins is a must.
Branded spirits like Baileys and Smirnoff Vodka but you have to ask they dont tell you.
Theres a nightclub at the Hacienda end, and theres a square will a few little bars and live entertainment every night and its part of your all inclusive package, honestly this place doesnt want you to spend any money, apart from tips that is.
We took our 2 year old little boy, it would have been complete if there was a little park somewhere on the resort and more for him but unfornuately there wasnt this was the only negative part, and icecream throughout the day for him was no good they have machines but they are always empty.
Also take a day trip to Xcaret that place is fab, you can touch stingrays, swim up rivers touch turtles really is such a lovely place.
Also go and see the sun rise it is amazing sight.
All in all I would highly recommend the Gran Bahia and will be returning in the near future.

We have just returned from a fabulous 2 weeks in paradise (2nd-16th October). Do not believe the negative reviews some people write. The resort and the staff that work there are the best. A special thanks to Nicki (sub director) who went out of her way to ensure we had everything we needed and also Melissa in Guest Services. We cannot forget also the drivers of the carts who did a brilliant job taking you to wherever you needed to go safely. Our room was clean and comfortable with a good sea view, modern flat screen TV and Maria our room maid made fabulous towel art daily. All the staff made us very welcome. Two waitresses (cannot remember their names) who knew we liked cappuccinos with Baileys after a hard day sunbathing on the beach, and served as we arrived. The beaches are fantastic and the guys on the beach worked relentlessly, clearing seaweed and rocks. The buffet food was good with plenty of choice. Our favourite a la cartes were Don Pablo, Arlequin and Dolce Vita. If you like meat, and a lot of it go to Gran Tortuga. It was my birthday whilst we were there and our room was filled with balloons and a bottle of champagne. Also, that evening in the Arlequin restaurant another bottle of champagne and a lovely birthday cake with the staff singing happy birthday, made the day very special. Thanks again to Nicki for arranging all this. The grounds of this large complex is full of wild life that are obviously used to humans, they are very friendly and must be on many a photograph. We cannot wait to return to this resort, even though it is a ten hour flight from the UK. Thanks to everyone at GBPTulum for a perfect holiday.
