“Excellent resort - would definately recommend”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 25, 2011

What a fantastic holiday – the hotel was brilliant!

I could write extensively about this stay, but to keep it short…Within this very large resort there are 3 resorts (if that makes sense); Coba, Tulum (where we stayed) and Akumal. All three sites were gorgeous and very relaxing. The Coba site appeared to be the largest of the three with Akumal being the smallest. There are little train-buses that chauffer you from one site to another and are very regular and easy to use. There are different al a carte restaurants to play around with, my personal opinion was that the Italian was by far the tastiest (again, that is just my opinion and they were all nice). They cater for everyone weather is it chilling out by the pool/beach or entertained throughout the day and every night…or if you fancy action there are day trips suitable for everyone (extra charge depending on what you are after). Rooms were spacious, the pools were clean and the bar pool cocktails were very nice. The gardens were beautiful, the sea and beach next to the hotel were gorgeous – I could not fault it. The hotel as a whole had everything you could possibly need and they will do anything for you.

I would definitely recommend this resort.

Not long back and already looking to book up here for next year. Stayed in the Hasienda Suites, got a free upgrade but worth paying that bit extra for.Rooms were lovely and in the perfect location. The place is beautiful and the food was amazing. The place is huge but no problem getting around in the buggies. Never seen a buffet like it!! The al a cartes were amazing, mikado (book a show table) was the best, arliquins and don pablo also fantastic. Cocktails were amazing too!!! Mango margaritas and Dona Isabella were my favs. Spent a lazy two weeks on the beach, saw a turtle laying eggs on the beach one night and baby ones hatching out of the sand another day!!! Only negative is you have to be up early to book you sun bed for the day!!! Like other people have said too, there are alto of mossies so be prepared!!! Staff were lovely, especially Alfredo in the Tequilla at lunch time!! Just a fantastic holiday, can't wait to go back!!!

Room Tip: pay a bit extra for the hassienda an e-mail the hotel before you go to ask for sea view.

We have just returned from a very very happy holiday at G.B.P. Tulum. We stayed in the COBA part of the resort but used the facilities of all the hotels. The food and drink was fantastic! My daughter is a very fussy eater but we always found something she liked. I am not so fussy but I was really surprised by the range and quality of the food on offer in the dining rooms and also the snack bars. My wife and I especially liked the MIKADO japanese restaurant ( book early for a show table)! However the food was just as nice in the rest of the restaurant. The draft beer was a local brew but very nice and not like others I've had at all inclusives. You have access to all branded spirits barring a few with charges which seem to be aimed at the american customer. My wife had Smirnoff and Absolute vodkas and I had mostly Jack Daniels ( they keep this in the cupboard so you have to ask).
We payed extra for a junior suite but it transpires that the COBA is all junior suites, so if you ask for the COBA when booking you will probably get a junior suite for a standard room price. The room was very large and comfortable and the maid service kept it very clean and tidy. We tipped a couple of dollars every day and got great service.
All public areas and pools were very clean and well maintained. We took lots of photos but like a lot of others I've seen on this site they don't do it justice, the lobbies especially are spectacular.
I would like to make a special mention to Ale, Gabriella and Jazmin from the principito kids club on the site. They worked very hard to make sure that my 10 year old daughter and all the other kids in their care were very well looked after and entertained.

If I could ask one thing of G.B.P. it would be to provide mosquito nets for the room. I know there is nothing the management can do about open areas, but nets in the rooms would ensure a better nights sleep ( the mossies enjoyed my wife and I as much as we enjoyed the MIKADO)!!!!!!
On the subject of wildlife, we had a great time watching Iguanas, Coatis, Raccoons, something that looked like a large rat with no tail and on one occasion an anteater.

All in all a very good holiday and if you are the sort of person to re-book a holiday in the same place year after year this could be the place for you. We met many who do just that.

The Gran Bahia Principe resort in Riviera Maya provides everything you could ever wish for. Quiet pools, active pools, gentle white sands, warm turquoise seas, endless bars and restaurants, food worthy of Masterchef winners, spectacular shows, bikes to hire, golf carts to travel in ...and even a dolphinarium!

Special mention has to be given to the Mikado Japanese restaurant (where a show table is a must!) and Le Gourmet (just sensational). Other things not to be missed are the beach bar where you sit on a swing whilst waiting for and enjoying your drink and the extensive cocktail list. Everyone should also try to see the 'Michael Jackson' show (it's just fab!).

Couple of tips. The hotels are in the jungle so take plenty of Jungle Formula and a room mosquito repellent to ward of the biters. Take anti-bite sprays/ pens and anti-histamine too for application if/ when you do get bitten. DON'T buy the mosquito bands off the Thomas Cook reps ...they really are less than useless. And, the only other 'no-no' relates to the the 'priviledge club'. Don't be encouraged to go along ...it's timeshare 'hard-sell' and you really will get total pressure piled on you to part with your credit card number (or even a dollar to legalise the contract) and to sign up.

Otherwise, all 3 hotels (the Tulum, the Akumal and the Coba) are all sensational. We found the Coba to have the best buffet restaurant (it's a bit smaller and therefore more intimate than the other 2); the Akumal to have the best beachfront, and; the Tulum to be the best to stay in (from the Tulum, you can walk to the bike hire and the Hacienda - the Mexican plaza).

In addition to the facilities, the hotel staff also cannot do enough for you. From the room 'maids' (mainly male) to the restaurant, bar, reception, customer service and buggy driving staff, the welcome, care and attention you receive all over this resort is outstanding. Our particular acknowledgement is extended to Fernando Rivas, the exemplary Customer Service Manager, who helped to make our stay very special indeed.

If you are considering Mexico or a get-away holiday, this is definitely the place to come. We cannot recommend the hotel/s highly enough and definitely will be returning.

Room Tip: Most rooms in this hotel have a fabulous outlook on to the turquoise Carribean Sea

Me my husband and my 27 year old daughter again choose this hotel.
This hotel is fantastic and massive , not one bad thing to say about place.
Room clean , large and not many plug sockets so take a extension lead.
All Bars and pool bar is excellent, staff work so hard and tips are welcomed .
Rodger, in Japanese was lovely, helpful and freindly as where management team.
Golf buggy service was excellent as it rained for three days. Loaned a umbrella from reception.
Grounds where lovely and well kept by busy gardeners, well done.
Beach was rocky but areas where you can get in no problem, take diving shoes.
we had a great time would recommend to everyone and would definately go back. Any questions just ask.
Just one thing did not like paying for safe hire as every other all inclusive i have been to had no fees .

Just got back from two weeks at the gran bahai, we stayed at the tulum part, but got a hacienda suite so had full access to all three hotels all inclusive. Ask for an upgrade becasue ours was free with thomas cook. Thomas cook were fine we found, no problems at all, but tho be honist we didnt really deal with them much. just to book a few trips and for general info. Dont listen to the depressing weather reports that say rain and thunderstorms. You will see rain, but only 10 minute downpours and they are never normally during the day anyway. all 14 days were amazing weather, really really hot and normally clear blue skies. the room was ace and all the staff, weather it be waiters, reception or even cleaners were excellent and really helpfull and friendly. Its a complete different leaue if you compare it to hotels in spain and greece, its worth the 10 hour flight and 1.5 hour transferr if your flying from manchester! The choice of restaurants, beach areas and pools is really good so you can always find the purfect spot depending what mood you are in! The buffet was really good food with loads of choice, but the al a carte restaurants were amazing, our faveourite was don pablo, taquilla and the brazilian. There is loads going on and loads of chill out places so you have exactly what sort of holiday suits you. The all inclusive was excellent, you can eat drink and have whatever you want 24 7 and never need to put your hand in your pocket! We just left a small tip in the al a carte restaurants and they deserved it and were very gratefull for anything, and never felt pressured to tip at all (but still did) We went to the day trip dolphin trip because they were better than the ones in the hotel and went snorkling with sea turtles which were awsome! Were going back next year DEFFO!!!!!

Room Tip: ask your travel agent or hotel to stay in the hacienda suite, or just blag you were promiced one.

My best friend had his wedding there so there was a huge group of us. The place is huge and very spacious. Staff are great, friendly and very helpful. If you want all the luxuries of a big all inclusive hotel with no worries this is the place for you. A bit of a ways from the airport but well worth it.

Room Tip: rooms are nice and spacious.
