We were disappointed on arrival when seeing our room as it was very dark and smelt musky. We have always booked standard rooms on our holidays but this was one of the worst so far.We asked to move rooms and were placed on a waiting list. After 4 days, still unpacked and after asking our rep to help we head nothing. To save any further distress we decided to stay in our room. The food was lovely and the staff work really hard . beautiful jungle surrounding the hotel . Entertainment was good but after 1 week we were quite bored at night. We were also approachsd by Michelle, a Canadian staff member in the lobby askjng if we woild like to come to a meeting and see thr Roysl suites and see other hotels owned by the chain. This turned out to be about timeshares and took about 2 hours out of our holiday. We feel foolish now for agreeing to go to the meeting as we werent willing to invest 10.000 pounds for future holidays. We did enjoy our holiday but probably wouldn't return due to the disappointing room.

First off anyone with negative reviews of Grand Palladium seem to be the pickiest people I've ever listened to. If you can't eat gluten, have food allergies, are pregnant, don't like animals, don't like people in general, dislike hot weather and have no patience then those are your problems and not the resorts fault :)
Check in was quick, most staff were super friendly, some not so much. They upgraded us for free to a Mayan Suite since we were with my parents who have stayed their before. The suite with outdoor shower was incredible. Yes we had a few bugs being on ground floor, but another in our group in a regular room on the 3rd floor in another building had just as many. This is the jungle people!
Beach was clean, lots of chairs, Ocean clear but only a few spots to walk in where you didn't step on coral so bring your water shoes! Great snorkeling at resort, tons of fish but take a $10 Taxi to Akumal beach and go swim with Turtles, that was incredible.
Buffets were awesome. We enjoyed every a la carte except the Ribs and More, ribs were awful (all gristle) but the sirloin burgers were good. Mexican, Brazilian, "French", Italian, Japanese, Steak House. Best to ask your server what his preferred choice is as we were NEVER disappointed. Once I had a under cooked steak, let them know and they brought me back another full meal perfectly cooked. Japanese feature table was great (sushi is better in Canada), what a unique show, sat with some brits and germans and was a great evening!
The beach bar food was pretty gross but no worse than your average pub food. Deep fried, quick and easy though and open 24 hours!
At lunch outdoor buffets don't feed the cute racoons, DONT! You're just adding to a disgusting problem. Some couples would feed them handfuls until there were about 15 of them jumping on their table, spilling their drinks, eating off their plates and causing mayhem! What do you expect! Little children were so close to them at head height, they're wild animals and would bite or scratch a kid without question. One guy was outside the buffet by the pool feeding them and one actually crawled up his leg and wouldnt let go, kind of like an angry cat with it's claws hooked in. If they were Canadian racoons, we'd all be dead! Lol.
I heard some woman screaming at the towel shack guys because they were out of towels. Nothing they can do about it. Be patient people, go grab a beer, stick your toes in the sand and chill out!
TIPS:
Make sure to wake up at 5:45am at least once and watch the sunrise on the beach! Keep your towels until the next day to make sure you don't run out of them. Bring your own pillow if your picky cause theirs are stiff like a rolled up towel! Trains always come to pick you up but take 15-20 minutes sometimes. If you throw a few bucks to the guys with the safari hats up front they will ALWAYS give you and your family a ride over to any other resort in the smaller golf carts (best tip)! Don't do the palladium tour, we heard it takes up an entire day with pressure to buy afterwards! Don't pay the $40/person for the boat to Akumal beach, get a $10 Taxi there yourself, turtles are everywhere so you don't need a guide! Go check out Kantun-Chi cenote tours up near the Barcello resort (10 minute collectivo ride for $5). $50/person and you go for a one hour underground (no natural light) snorkel tour, best part of the whole trip!
TIP TIP TIP, you feel better and you get better service! Great holiday and PS. No one in our group got Montezuma's Revenge, that's a first!

We have stayed at GP Kantenah at the beginning of November this year !

Overall it has been a wonderful vacation ! The resort is very nice, quite big and with things to do for everyone !

We had a (newly renovated) Junior Suite on Kantenah side ! The room was nice and clean and the maid took good care of cleaning it every day.
The food was good, we ate mostly at the Buffets on Colonial/Kantenah side and we had a couple of suppers at the A La Cartes.
The service was good and the whole experience was very pleasant !
We have read/heard good things about Grand Palladium on Rivera Maya before booking and indeed the resort met and quite exceeded our expectations !

I would like to make a special mention here about their Food Allergy program, which we found to be fantastic !
My teenage son has the Celiac disease, so he can not have any trace of gluten in his food !
The resort provides you with an allergy card that you will present at each buffet/restaurant at meal time.
There is a Gluten Free menu available for Breakfast, Lunch and Supper ! You can chose an item from the menu and the Chef will prepare it for you in a dedicated allergen free area (i.e Gluten in our case) from allergen free ingredients !
Apart of the food that is natural Gluten Free (i.e. meat, vegetables, most of the cheese) they have Gluten Free pasta, bread, pizza and even delicious brownies !
The Chefs (especially at the Buffets on Colonial/Kantenah side) were very nice and helpful, my son was very pleased with the food, he even had some special treats prepared just for him !

We were a bit stressed the 1st day, but after we met the Food and Beverage director (a very nice and knowledgeable person !) he explained to us how the whole allergy program works and things became much simpler and stress-free from there on !
The Allergy program is very well implemented through the whole resort and this really makes an enjoyable stay for the concerned guests !

We will definitely take advantage of this program on our next vacations on Rivera Maya, we plan to be repeat guests of GP for years to come !

A big Thank You to all the resort stuff that made our stay there a relaxing experience !

Just returned to cold from the most amazing 2 weeks at the Kantenah. We had a standard room (no upgrade despite it being our wedding anniversary) but the room was really nice, recently refurbished and immaculately clean. I found the pillows quite uncomfortable but I am very fussy. The room was cleaned daily and towels changed every day.

The whole resort is beautiful you can easily feel like you are on your own while walking through the grounds even when the resort must have been fairly full.

The beach is stunning with really good swimming and the reef for snorkelling, there was never much trouble getting sunbeds and there was plenty of shade available too, The pools look good too but we stayed mostly on the beach.

The food is good at the buffets and really good at the a la carte restaurants. We tried the steakhouse, ribs and more, Brazilian, Mediterranean, Chinese and Japanese, the only one that was slightly disappointing was the Japanese as the other guests on our table were not very friendly and I think the chef was a bit intimidated by them. Such a shame as the chef appeared to be new and a bit nervous we tried to give him some feedback but with the others almost ignoring him he was really up against it. We gave him a tip at the end but were the only ones that did, The food was good. Overall the food was excellent and you could eat all day and night if you really wanted too,

The staff everywhere on the resort are really friendly and always give a cheerful 'hola' when passing. The waiting staff in the bars hardly gave you a chance to sit before they were there to take your drinks order the service was brilliant.

The buses that run from Tulum to Playa del Carmen are frequent, safe and cheap so get out and use them. We did a few trips on them to the ruins at Tulum, to Playa del Carmen and to Xel-Ha and compared with the hotel trips we saved a small fortune.

All in all this was a fabulous holiday, loved the country, the resort and the people. We will be back.

I saw turtles being hatched on the beach! It was amazing! 4 resorts in one. Great people! Don't fall for the free trip to playa del carman from the tour operators. They stop at a jewellery store with lots of pressure to buy! The salt water pool is a must! Great snorkelling in the salt water pool and just at the beach. For $40 snorkelling trip to akumal where we swam with turtles and stingrays! No limit to al la cartes!! Book the day before for beach restaurant! Amazing seafood and beautiful spot! Don't bother with the sushi restaurant , very average. Many different buffets and all food was great. Staff are friendly and helpful.

Thank you for the upgrades!! We have been to the resorts at this location many times.
We travelled with 2 grown daughter and 2 young grandsons. November 14th to November 21.
When we arrived we were pleasantly surprised by a double upgrade to the ambassador suite. Our grown daughters also received upgrades to junior suites. The only complaint they had was lack of hot water and the water pressure. I must thank them for the VIP wristbands which allowed us to have all the perks of the Royal section. We were able to book al la carte's for the 6 of us, myself and husband, two daughters and two grandsons, without any problems. They loved the show table. The new kids club was up and running the second day that we were there, and it was a great hit with they boys age 3 and 5. The mascots in the kids club and the breakfast with them was a hit with the 5 year old. The upgrades in the rooms are awesome. The beach was great as usual. Thanks again for a great holiday!!!

Truly amazing resort. Sunshine all week. Stunning beach with lots of palm trees and palapas. No trouble finding a spot, sunny or shade troughout the day. Love that the sea's swimming areas are shallow. The staff is amazing, they work hard but always with a smile on their face. Food was great, buffet and no reservation a la carte restaurants, except maybe at the Italian restaurant, I ain't a picky eater, but just could not eat the lasagna, it wasn't good. The pools are amazing, though really deep. Wildlife and vegetation everywhere, well kept grounds. Everything really clean. Had a junor suite located in villa 49, on 3rd floor. Near everything. Don't miss the rock pool on Riviera's side. And for tranquil moments, the' adults only ' pool. Ans do enjoy a little tequila while enjoying music in the lobby or the shows. I'd like to insist on the amazingly attentive and hard working staff. Special mention to Augustin at El Dorado steak-house and Carlos at Rodizio brasilian restaurant : these two were exceptionnal at their job and at charismatically teaching a little spanish... haha.. So much fun! I'll be back soon as it was a really nice stay. Thank you all at Grand palladium.

Room Tip: Villas 48 to 50 very central, easy access to everything from the mangrove shortcut.
