“very pleasant vacation”
Reviewed November 20, 2013

This was my third time staying at the palladium colonial and was still very happy. we were booked in the katanah side 1st but like the location of the colonial side better so we switched with no problem. Love the staff always so helpful and everything done with a smile. It rained for 4 days but the hotel deeps you entertained with lobby music in the lobby or trivia games in the lobby but also the rooms are very comfortable and you can relax and watch american tv. the lobby also has free internet. The restraunts are very good particularly like portafino and the japanese but the buffet is also very good and often went there too. not to mention self serve ice cream at several places. Love this hotel going back to take my children and grandchildren in january. They also just opened a children's pool that is fabulous and the nightly entertainment is fun too. looking forward to going back in january and showing this lovely hotel to my adult children.

Room Tip: rooms 30 31 32 on the colonial side are great but don't allow children

Not really what I was expecting given the price. The food and the swimming pools were great. We had problems with the air conditioning which took 48 hours to sort out. It also took 5 phone calls and 3 visits to reception. Friends at the resort also had a few problems with the rooms. A couple of times the water was not hot enough. WiFi was free in the lobby but over 10 dollars a day in the room and not particularly fast. Some of the walkways had need maintenance which does not appear to be missing.

In summary I think this is a bit old and tired and needs a refresh.

Had high expectations from recommendation from friends and online reviews.
Pros: 1. beach that rivals the best in Hawaii, Phuket Thailand, and the Philippines. The water was warm, clear, shallow, great for swimming and snorkeling right in the resort.
2. Spa was free to use the pool, steam room, sauna, jacuzzi, fitness center. Adults only.
3. The convenience and stress free feeling of an all inclusive resort.
4.Clean.
5. Majority of the staff was friendly.
Cons: 1. although the food and drinks were plentiful, the quality was mediocre.
2. Check in staff did not make us feel welcome.
3. The lobby and the bedroom were dark. I asked the bell man when we arrived at 2 pm, if the power was out.
4. The bellmen ignored our numerous requests one day for a shuttle to our room from the lobby. We finally gave up and walked in the rain.
5. It was cheesy to have sidewalk vendors set up tables
at night in the hallways.
We'll probably try another all inclusive resort next time.

Stayed at the Colonial Nov 8-17/13 (10 of us in total) - Booked Jr Suites and were all upgraded to Mayan suites. This was our second trip to this resort - no complaints at all with any of the services.
Unfortunately for our 10-day visit we had downpours, high winds and thunderstorms intermittently for 5 of the days at least - very very unusual - spent 2 afternoons in the lobby reading or trying the internet .. and cocktails of course! . . or other times running for cover from the beach to keep dry. The staff worked very hard around the clock mopping floors, cleaning debris, etc while still tending to our needs.
Special thanks goes to the transport co-ordinators & staff driving the covered trollies, carts, any available vehicles taking us to our villas or picking us up for dinner, at the same time handling luggage for the arrivals and departures - not to mention transporting the poor wedding parties in their finest -
The storm(s) in no way reflect on the resort - they did a fine job! Just a disappointment when looking forward to 10 days in the sun! Suggestion - throw in rain cover or plastic bags if heading that way - seems there is a crazy weather pattern in general not only in the Mayan.

Room Tip: The best location is the Mayan Unit 30 - closest to beach and large pool and direct path to lobby.

We arrived on november 4th.
Upon arrival we had a great and quick check in. We were taken to villa 5 on the colonial side. At every hotel we ever stay at we always, always check beds for bedbugs and we have never found any until we arrived. To my surprise our beds had bugs crawling all over bed. I lifted bedspread and more came out. My sister found bed bugs crawling inside bed as well. We notified front desk and said they would send someone to spray. ( I wish hotel had more knowledge of the damage that just one bed bug can do.. one is too many.) Hotel did give us the option that we could go around and choose rooms that had no bugs.. Thank you for that Victor.no
but let me tell you it took like 6 different rooms before we found 2 free bed bugs. HONESTLY some rooms on kantenah and white sands/ riviera had spriders crawling in between and you could see them as soon as you lifted bed spread. This has to be so embarrassing for this hotel. I urge the owner and management team to seriously find and come up with a solution to fix this problem in the ENTIRE COMPLEX. We finally settled on the kantenah side villas 49 and 50.. Finally we were ready to start our vacay.. The hotel grounds are kept beautifully clean and omg you see so many different animals like raccoons, iguanas ect. The pools are kept clean, our fav was the white sand s pool . You must eat at Punta Emilia and Adelita .. the salt water pool las rocas is a must do. Enjoy the paddle boats and kayaking in the beach. but our vacation couldn't of been great with out one employee: Cecilio the bell boy (colonial/kantenah). From the very first day and until our last day he made us feel like family and not just like another guest. Cecilio went above and beyond in a very professional way. He was so patient and helpful. He has a great attitude and personality towards his job. ITS because of employee's like him that guest return even after a first bad impression .. Thank you so much CECILIO, you are AWESOME. We hope that our next stay is as great but minus the bed bugs .

Wonderful hotel. Staff were very friendly. Very good service in all restaurants. Only thing to mention is it is annoying that men must always wear trousers to dinner restaurants as it is very hot there. You will get turned away if you do not wear the proper dress code, no code for women. Trains to other hotels/resorts are a very good service. Limited wifi can be a bit frustrating as only available in the lobby. If you are going in October don't worry that it's rainy season. We only had a few hours of heavy rain in 10 days. Weather was around 36 degrees the rest of the time. Bottom line..... We would definitely recommend this hotel. We only left the resort for one day and was never bored as there are lots of pools and different places to go as you have four hotels. We always ate somewhere different very night which was lovely.

This was our 2nd trip & I was disappointed that we didn't get an upgrade as I'd heard others talk about :-( especially as we'd chosen to spend my hubby's 60th birthday there. Still we had a room in the Kantenah section which was lovely anyway! Hotel experience was fab as before with facilities, clean seating areas/grounds, 9 A- la carte restaurants, beach & saltwater pool.
Brilliant PADI diving centre on the beach with staff who supported my hubby to qualify on his 60th birthday, which was a great birthday celebration :0)
We have had some lovely holidays but this is just gorgeous. July was hot & humid & we were eaten alive by Mosquitos despite numerous wrist bands & sprays but March was beautiful, hot but barely any mozzies!
