Recently got back from a two week stay at this hotel. The hotel is about 1 hr and half from the airport and after a long flight it was worth the time to get here. The hotel is set out in 80 per cent jungle with mangroves all around it has won awards for its green tourism. The hotel is very large which we were worried about but there is golf buggies which the bell boys will take you around in and sheltered walk way short cuts but it might be worth requesting a room near the lobby if you have problems walking etc.
The colonial lobby was the best on the whole resort lots going on with a band and show on every night . Miriam and Maria who served us drinks in the evening were brilliant. The colonial buffet was nice but there is a huge range of al a carte restaurants which were all brilliant and you can go as many times as you want.
Beach was fab so clean and the crystal blue water. Lots of entertainment was poolside.
The rooms were nice all set out on the jungle. We did have to ask twice for the room to be cleaned even though we had the please clean sign in the door which was a bit annoying.
We went in October so it was low mosquito season.
The hotel was beautiful lots going on. Perfect if you want a quiet holiday or if you want one with lots of activities. Would like to go again one day.

We stayed In the Colonial Villa's July 19th for 2 Weeks with three children (2 x teenagers and an 8 year old).

This resort is stunning and so well maintained. It is large but that was no problem to us, we enjoyed walking around to explore or if we felt less energetic in the heat we caught the buggy's or trains

Rooms - We had two rooms next door to each other, rooms were great, large comfortable beds, good air con, mini bar with plenty of drinks. We loved sitting out on the balcony looking & listening to the jungle, it was spectacular.

Food - Fantasic food and choice in the buffets and the restaurants.

Drinks - Everything you can think of is available. Great choice of cocktails.

Beach - Beautiful beach and lovely warm sea, it was never a problem getting sunbeds by the pools or on the beach.

Kids Club - My eight year old loved the kids club. It was very well organised and safe. The staff were great and there were so many activities during the day. She also took part in a few of the night time shows which were well organised and very professional. Big thank you to all the girls in the childrens club - my daughter loved it!!

Evening entertainment - we enjoyed shows in Colonial or Riveria were varied and entertaining. The teenagers liked the fact there was a onsite nightclub, and made many friends.

Trips - We travelled out on organised trips to Xcaret and Xha. Both were beautiful, but Xha was our favourite, it was stunning.Caught the collectivo a couple of times from outside the hotel to Akumal, swam with the turtles, its definitely worth a visit.

FANTASTIC MANAGEMENT & STAFF - This hotel is so well managed. super service, the staff are polite, considerate ,friendly and work very hard to ensure you enjoy your stay here. Thank you, to all of you, for making our stay so enjoyable,

There are so many more good things that we could say about this resort, on this review, but I would sat here typing away for the next couple of hours!!

We loved every minute of our time at the Grand Palladium and cannot wait to return .

Hello, we are 2 couples in our early 20s and we travelled to Grand Palladium Colonial from September 14th to 21st with Air Transat (from Canada). Flight was perfect and we had good food and champaign/wine. Shuttle to hotel was about an hour and a half with Coronas available on the bus, which was a good start to our vacation. On arrival, we were greated with a cocktail and Luis checked us in and he was very helpful and kind. To our surprise, we were upgraded from a Junior suite to a Mayan suite (outdoor shower!), what a great surprise! Thank you Grand Palladium!

Room : Rooms are very big and clean. All week, we had the same housekeeper(Sergio) that we would like to thank for his good work and beautiful personalized towel art. Bed was very big and comfortable, pellows were ok. Frige was restocked daily and you could get an extra beer for a dollar if you asked. Bathroom was spacious and clean and outdoor shower was really great and was usable even if it was raining. Safe worked very well and easy to use. We had a small porch with a hammock that we used a lot for smoking cigars before dinner.

Weather: Very HOT !! For sure, you'll need to have a swim in the pool if the sun is out.

Food : All the A la carte restaurants were very good. Our favourite was the steakhouse. If you want to go to the Japanese (with a show) and Seafood restaurant, you'll have to reserve the day before at 8 am and don't be late! According to us, seafood restaurant wasn't worth it, seafood was overcooked and we had to go back to the room to get bugspray because of all the bugs on the beach (restaurant is on the beach). Waiter was very nice and polite. However, the Japanese restaurant was worth it. Our cook was amazing and the show was breathtaking and food was good. Buffet was very good, always different and of good quality.

Service : Everywhere we went, everyone was polite and smiling. Our best waitress was Wram in the Colonial lobby, she brought us great tequilas!! Great attention to details, we even saw someone cleaning under the bottom of the tables in the lobby.

Activities : While we were there, the meciacan we're celebrating a national holiday and many we'res organized for the week-end. We also went on the "jungle maya" tour, which was very fun and exciting. We did zip-linning, snorkling, had a lunch, and a maya shamman blessing. We also went to Playa del carmen which is 25 minutes from the hotel. We used the collectivo which was safe and only 3 $ per person. It's a beautifull place great for shopping souvenir.

Beach/Pool/Spa : Pools are beautiful and very clean, there is always someone cleaning the pool. Pool bar is very crowded and hard to get to because of depth. Colonial pool is about 5'3" compared to the White Sands pool which is 4'. Adult pool is in the middle of nowhere but once you find it, you'll enjoy the calm and private service, great for midnight swim.
Wherever we went, we always found beach/pool chairs easily

Grounds :It's very big, you feel like you are in the jungle, you will see animals and plants everywhere.

In conclusion great trip, we would for sure recommend this resort.

Room Tip: We were in building 31 (colonial) and it was near the beach and pool, 19,20,21 31 and 32 were all ne...

My wife and I have just returned from our 5th stay at the Colonial. Our four previous visits were for 7 days and this time we were there for 10 days from September 29 to October 9 and we would have liked to have stayed longer. For us it just keeps getting better and better!

The staff has always been amazingly friendly. The service at the bars and restaurants is great. With 8 different ala carte restaurants to choose from it is fun going somewhere new every night. For you breakfast eaters...the breakfast buffet is unbeatable!!!

Our typical day starts with coffee on the balcony in the morning then off to the beach. Lunch at the Punta Emilia beach bar. Maybe a little snorkeling, paddle boating or catamaraning. We usually stay till around sunset although sometimes we will head over to the adult pool at the Secreto Bar. Then cleaned up and out to dinner and watch the shows or listen to the bands in the lobby. There is one band that we have enjoyed alot that plays a good variety of music.

We are mainly sit on the beach and drink people but if you like to be active there is all sorts of things going on to keep you entertained. The entertainment staff will keep you busy if you want. There is basketball, volleyball, tennis, soccer, archery, rifle shooting, miniature golf, shuffle board, not to mention all the different excursions that are available to the sight seers.

The rooms are comfortable though not extremely fancy. This, however, suites us just fine as we do not spend a whole lot of time in there. The bottom floors tend to stay a little damp so I would recommend getting a room on one of the other floors.

I have read other reviews from people saying the resort is to big and you have to walk to much. The resort is big but once you learn your way around you will find the short cuts and the walk is truly enjoyable. There is the train and carts to help you along if you desire, but you might have to wait about 5 minutes for one to show up. By then you could be where ever you wanted to go anyway.

The SPA is amazing! Sauna, Steam, Hydrotherapy, Hot Tub, Cold Tub, Rock Path, Infinity pool, not to mention for you exercisers...the gym. Virtually anything that you could want!

The salt water pool is fun, but we enjoy the regular beach better. There is a lot of rocks/coral on the beach that makes it hard to get into the water, but there are some spots that are easier than others and once you are out about 10 feet you are swimable. There is a place in the middle of the beach are that has been cleaned out and is very fun to go stand and cool off and watch the fish swim around you.

I would like to give a special thanks to two great people at the Punta Emilia Beach Bar. Ernesto the bar tender and Haiti the server. We had so much fun getting to know them and having them try to teach us Spanish. Also to the band that plays at the Colonial and Riveria Lobbies. I can't remember the name of the band, but these 3 guys are very talented and fun to listen to.

Can't wait to go back. Looking forward to trip#6

Room Tip: Villa #20 is great if you like to go to the beach or to the Secreto Adult Pool Bar. Try to get a ro...

We have booked 2 weeks holiday with First Choice at the Grand Palladium resorts. We didn't know if we get allocated in Kantenah or Colonial side. I have e-mailed the hotel and requested our apartment to be in Colonial side on the high floor. I have also asked for a king size bed.

Our flight was very pleasant and comfortable. That was the first time we have used a package holidays. We usually travel with BA and book hotels separately.

After the arrival at the Cancun airport we were promptly directed to First Choice coach which took us to the hotel. The journey was pretty long (about 1hr 45min) as we were the last ones to be dropped off. That was fine as we expected this.

We have arrived to the resort and the checking in didn't take more than 10minutes. We were than taken to our rooms. When I opened the door the first thing was a horrible musty/moldy smell. We are very well traveled and have been in other Caribbean island/places and never had such a bad experience. The rooms are very, very dated more like 2/3 stars rather than 5.

I have immediately make my way to the reception area and requested different room. We were showed 2 rooms: one on the ground floor which smelled even worst! Another one on the 2nd floor which wasn't as bad, but still smelled. I have asked for the upgrade, so we could be moved to a better accommodation closer to the beach and away from the trees. I don't want to even disclosed how much we were asked for to pay for the upgrades! Ridiculous amount of money! With no any other option we have stayed at the room on the second floor.

Our friends who have been allocated just above us, had to deal with even worst nightmare: their A/C has been constantly leaking, so all their clothes and bed linen were wet! We have reported the issues several times. The engineer was sent, but couldn't fix the problem! We were told they can't change our friends room as they are fully booked! How can this resort be rated 5 starts???

Beach is very rocky and full of stingrays.Pools were nice and there was plenty of free sun lounges especially in the adult section.

The good things are that you can use all 12 a la carte restaurants without any prior reservation. We have ate in all of them and really enjoyed Ribs & More, Rodrizio and Portofino restaurants. The food was very well cooked and beautifully executed.

Kabah is far the best buffet restaurant both for breakfast and dinner.

Punta Emilia is great for lunch, simple food but freshly cooked to order.

Overall we had a great holidays, however I would not come back , neither I would recommended the above resort.

Room Tip: Cheap excursion: do it yourself: we have travel to Playa Del Carmen, Akumal and Tulum. All you have...

We have just returned from 2 weeks at the Colonial. The place is spotless considering you are in the jungle. There is tea and coffee making facilities in the rooms as well as a free mini bar which is restocked daily. The food was amazing, good quality meat, and plenty of choice. You may need to wait for some of the a la carte restaurants but as you don't need to make reservations for these it is to be expected as there are 5 hotels across the complex. If you only see 1 show make sure it's the Mexican. We found all the staff extremely helpfull and friendly. We also enjoyed seeing all the wildlife, especially the animals. Location is great as you can get the collectivo from outside the hotel and its cheap, 35 pesos to Playa del Carmen, about 25 mins away. I visited the spa, prices are reasonable and its very peaceful and relaxing. We slept like logs but if you have a problem with the pillows you can hire different ones.

All in all it was a great holiday and I would definitely recommend it to anyone. I would have no hesitation in returning

This was my second visit for Grand Palladium two years ago me and my friend stayed in the Kantenah resort and this year the Colonial. Theres not too much difference between the two as you can walk or tram your way to all the other resorts anyway its just more lively in Colonial as the theatre is there etc which is perfect for two 20year old girls!!

We was a little apprehensive on returning as we had had such a brilliant time the first time we came and made so many good friends that we was worried the staff may not remember us and that it would not compare to the first time but it totally did it was just as amazing if not more amazing this time round!! We ate in alot more of the restaurants this time Ribs and more and El Dorado were two of my favourites but if we was trying to be quick we never got bored at eating at the Buffet as it had a different theme each night! It was nice to see that there was a few new shows and things had been changed up abit since the last time as it can get repetitive and i must say the choreography and level and ability of the dancers this year was fantastic they did some amazing things!

The reason we would continue to visit this hotel is because there is always something to do you dont feel the need to have to leave the resort because there is usually two shows on a night then a live band in the lobby and on a few nights a week they do the bikini party, white party and so on but my favourite is the white party i would really recommend people go along to that its such good fun!

There are a few people hanging around the pool like the Segway people and Scuba people trying to get you to buy tours but if you just make it clear your not interested they leave you alone and dont hassle you which is nice!

Cleanliness of the hotel is brilliant i cant say either time i have been around and found it to look even slightly dirty and never had a problem with our rooms either they have been everything you need and want and to be honest your not in them a great amount of time anyway as you want to be up early and in bed late making the absolute most of your time there! The bar staff were great Valentino and Santiago from the Colonial bar was our favourite having met them previous but they are always working so hard and so fun at the same time they never stop smiling. The animation team were amazing so entertaining, full of energy, so kind and welcoming there constantly on the go so hardworking but always find time for you and stay in touch so you really feel like youve made a good bunch of friends. The activities around the pool are fab and highly entertaining although can be quite dangerous as your running around the pool we did see alot of people slip and hurt themselves so you do have to be careful! We joined in with every single activity its the best way to get to know not only the animation team but other people staying in the resort we made some awesome friends some couples, some young, some older and from all different countries!!

We travelled end of August 2010 as we dont like it to be too busy when we are there prefare it a little more quiet. The weather was alot better that year as this year we travelled September 12th-26th and had quite a few rainy days. Its not too bad though because there are daily programs sorted for rainy days so its not too boring but some of the evenings were really hot! However when it did rain parts of the lobby got VERY slippery i fell and hurt my knee and i saw alot of other people do the same they was all the time trying to control the wet floor but obviously it cant be bone dry all the time you just have to be careful as they do work hard to keep it as dry as possible.

We was lucky enough to be there for the Mexican Independance day and if possible you should try to make your trip there whilst this is on because it was great to see, very traditional although alot of Mexicans came from outside the hotel for the day and it soon made the hotel very busy!! And we went out in Playa Del Carmen the same night which was crazy it was so busy but so much fun they just make a party out of anything like a Mariachi band stood on a corner there was so many people crowding them just dancing around it was really fun to see.

Ive said it before and will say it again Cocobongo is a must!!! It is the best club ever!! It is for people of all ages everyone will fit in your never to old to go in there!! We booked it through the hotel so we got transport, drinks and entry i think it cost about £50 but is well worth it! We also visited Senor Frogs which is good it was quite quiet when we went but brilliant all the same!

It will certainly not be the last time i visit this hotel i would even visit the Palladiums in Jamaica and Dominican as i am so satisfied with the running of it. However im abit of a sucker and just adore Mexico anyway and very much hoping to return next year!
