“Fabulous”
Reviewed October 10, 2012

We have just returned from the most fantastic two weeks at the Colonial - first time in Mexico and first time all inclusive and have to say what a fabulous experience it was.
Fantastic resort where you have use of the facilities of all four hotels , excellent restaurants and great bars - from lively and fun to more chilled and relaxing. A huge resort which remains walkable but there are shuttle buggies and a train service to all parts including the 24-hour beach bar ! Best of all are the Mexican people - the service is second to none and nothing is too much trouble - very friendly and good fun - especially Alfredo in the Kantenah Bar !
Well Done to everyone at the Grand Palladium and thanks for a great vacation.

Room Tip: Anywhere is good but depends if you prefer to be nearer the pool , the beach or lobby - we were in v...

We booked our holiday back in January and I was a little worried I would be disappointed when we arrived as it sounded too good to be true, however we had an amazing holiday!!!!!

The room was ok and the minibar was stocked daily and the bed was really comfortable. The only thing I would suggest is that the hotel have their daily programmes on the TV in the rooms as it avoid people having to keep checking the noticeboard especially when it's raining it would be useful to know where the entertainment are.

We found the resort absolutely breathtaking, on our first day we stumbled into the church which was decorated out for a photoshoot and I must say this is where I want to get married! It blew me away it was so elegant and all the staff were so friendly and could not do enough for you! My partner proposed here whilst we were away and with the help of Maria (Customer Services) he organised a romantic meal for just the two of us!

There are so many restuarants to choose from but I would most definately recomment El Dorados and Rodizos we went back twice! The grounds are amazingly beautiful.

The shows are very entertaining and there is plenty of music in the bars although I would say the Colonial bar seemed to have more going on. The staff work very hard and obviously love their work as they were always ready to make you feel welcome and eager to get you to join in with the pool games etc!

I would say anyone thinking of booking this hotel should just get on and book it, it was a fabulous holiday and when you are there you must visit Coco Bongos it has to be the best club ever!!!!

Thank you to everyone and Grand Palladium for giving us a holiday to remember!

stayed at the palladium from 25th sept to oct 6th.on a whole we really enjoyed it here, its difficult to say a bad thing about the hotel/complex.we stayed int the colonial in villa 21.i asked for a central position due to mobility problems and when we were going to our room on the golf buggy i feared the worse,it seemed really far away from the lobby.however as it turned out we was a couple of minutes walk from the pool and the lobby.when walking around there is lots of short cuts at the rear of the villas which all seem to lead to the same place.really pleased with the location.i emailed the hotel with a few requests and they delivered,so a big thanks for that.check in was fast and they get the travel club reps involved straight away, they give you a few days to relax then ask you take the tour of the royal suits to try to sell the timeshares.i must admit i was really worried about this before i went but to be honest i went on the tour and enjoyed it.i got 1500 pesos for going from andreas(this guy is a really nice guy and was very helpful all holiday and always had time to chat and even offered to show us around playa del carmen on his day off,so thanks andreas)i was really surprised there is no hard sales or pressure on you if you say no then its fine, you just go.please don`t be put off going because i can assure you if i had the money i would of bought into it.its very good offer,so please don`t panic about going at worst you get money off a trip( a bit more on trips later)...i got a free upgrade to a jnr suit on the top floor.the rooms are spotless but a bit basic but we was happy as we did`nt spend much time in them.tv was dated but did`nt watch it,fridge topped up daily with beer, water & soft drinks.i have read a lot of moans about the pillows and the beds.this puzzled me i thought the beds and pillows where perfect but each to there own i guess.seen a couple of ants in the room but that was it,ona whole we didnt see many bugs, seen 1 cockroach,1 spider, and ants that was about it but you are in the jungle so they are there.lots of other things walking around though, igaunas, coaties, raccoons and other mammals, flamingos and crocodiles(caged off).we bought some wrist bands from the rep for our 4 yr old daughter and she did`nt get a single bite,i never got bitten but the missus did but only 2-3 times so not bad really.this resort is huge with loads of bars and loads of places to eat.we did`nt really try many ala catres as its not really my thing so we just just did a couple and stuck to the buffets, the food is pretty good and never got ill or a dicky stomache which is a first.if i had one slight moan then i would say the breakfast are same every day and you sort of get a touch bored with breakfast but that is being picky.service is excellent and the staff work so hard.tipping was easy for me and i think the staff will miss me for my tips alone,i think they deserve everything i gave them,so a big thanks to all the staff in the restraunts and the bar staff.keep up the good work.we went the pool every day almost..the main pool is huge and no trouble getting a sun bed.the swim up bar is brill.missus loved that part.also theres a beach bar near the pool.the beach is a minute or so from the pool.the little girl loved the pool and a we let her go the raccoons kiddie club,i have to say i am very wary about letting my daughter out my sight but i trusted the staff in the kiddie club 100% and they do a great job outting on shows and getting the kids involved in the shows.my daughter hollie loved going.so thank you raccoons staff.night time entertainment was good and the pop(people of palladium)team work very hard and they are very very good dancers.a few of the shows are proper funny.the titanic tribute and body gaurd tributes proper tickled me.the entetainment carried on in the riviera lobby after 101pm but we did`nt go due to our little one tired, but in the lobbys there are live bands which are pretty good singing all well known songs.one of the singers was`nt the best but hey i can`t sing a note so who am i to comment.we booked a trip tho chichen itza(spelling)it cost £46 for 3 of us due the 1500 pesos from the holiday club.this trip was awsome but a very long day.even at full price$180 it would have been worth it.i recommend you go on this.booked through holiday extras at the side of reception,i did`nt catch the reps name but he was a really nice guy.thanks to him.i would like to say thanks to every member of staff in the hotel and a dollar tip goes a long way so please tip them they work really hard and its annoying watching guests show no appreciation.there is lots more i could tell you about this place and just waffle on but just book it and go see.i will defo be back in a few years, its the only holiday i have been on where i was not ready for home.a few more days would of been nice, usually after a week i want to get home.if you are waiting to go then i will say,"jammy sods"enjoy your time here.we did.
adios grand palladium colonial till next time.

Holiday
Me and my wife stayed 13/09/12 until 27/9/12. First the room cleaned to a good standard and bar stocked every day. But we had asked for a high floor and given a ground floor which had no view as the jungle was right outside so it did block the sun, but they did ring and ask is all ok with the room and my wife had replied it was, I am sure they would have moved us if required, but the room its self was good with a safe and an iron and iron board stored away.
Food
People say the breakfast gets repetitive but your only there two weeks and there is Mexican food. An egg station, fresh fruit, pastries then the normal bacon and eggs etc. all to a very good standard. I tipped our waiter every couple of days he was great extras like fruit juice and cappuccino brought to the table, but tip or not it’s still served to a high standard.
The restaurants were just great, we got to go all the ones we wanted to, you had to book the fish and Japanese show kitchen. We never had and a problem getting in anywhere and we really enjoyed the experience the staff all very attentive.
Pool
The pools are cleaned every day and are massive, no problems with sun beds at the pool or beach.
The entertainment staff work very hard but leave you alone if you’re not interested. There are adult pools only and the white sands is quieter , you can also use the spa pool, we went up here early as there are limited sun beds but it is so relaxing not many people go as there is no towel station or bar but it was chilled out.
We did have some heavy rain for a few days and the hotel do react to this there was a live band on in the bar by the pool and extra waiters and bar staff to keep things moving. They handled it very well; the staff was constantly mopping floors to keep them safe.
The staffs are friendly and attentive the reception answers all your questions. And we have booked to go back next year can`t wait

We went to Grand Palladium Colonial for 3 weeks from Bristol on 8th Sept with First Choice. Flight going out was fine, for those of you who want to fly from Bristol to Mexico you will have a short stop at Manchester ( about an hour for us ) to fuel the plane as Bristol runway is not long enough to have a full tank of fuel and everything else on board to take off!! You don't get off the plane just sit around and wait, but as it's on the way you don't care your too excited.

When we arrived we were given a room upgrade which was nice of them, if you do get a free upgrade from the hotel don't expect bath robes and slippers as these are only usually offered if you have paid for an upgrade, it didn't bother us that we didn't have such things.
Rooms are pretty basic even with an upgrade but we only used ours to get ready and sleep so it did the job for us. For people that don't do their research and moan about the rooms only have themselves to blame as there are plenty of pics online!
Our super king bed was lovely and I never had an issue with the pillows, I think the hotel has slightly shot itself in the foot with having a pillow menu as I think it gives guest the impression that they have been given inadequate pillows for their stay but I found them fine.
Our maid did a great job and left us towel art nearly everyday of our 3 week stay we did tend to tip a few dollars every other day. The resort as a whole is extremely clean.

We were glad we went for 3 weeks as there is so much to see and do here, the salt water pool is great for snorkeling and the beach does have rocky areas but just look for where everyone is in the sea for the the best bathing areas.

We spent alot of time at the main Colonial pool as we enjoyed the games that the animation team put on from water polo to salsa lessons, the members of staff of the animation team were fantastic and really gave us a good giggle, they weren't pushy at all they just wanted to make sure you were having a good time and they really made our holiday.

The grounds of the hotel are beautiful and full of wildlife which was lovely to see and hear.

We tried all of the A la carte apart from the fish restaurant as myself and partner aren't fish
lovers. All in our opinion were very good and the beauty of not having to book them ( apart from fish and Japanese restaurant ) made it a lovely touch as you can choose on the night where you want to eat. Our favorite was El Dorado steak house we had a few great steaks there.
The buffets were very good too, everything you would expect from an all inclusive buffet.

Evening entertainment was mainly around the Colonial lobby with live bands up until 1am this lobby was the busiest compared to the others.
The theatrical shows were very good too, they put on 2 a night 1 in Colonial and 1 later in Riviera.

The Spa was lovely for a complete chill out it's so quiet and relaxing and included in your all inclusive apart from treatments.

This was our 1st time trip to Mexico and after this experience it won't be our last, I could talk all day about this hotel and how impressed I was with it. We are planning to return here next year as we enjoyed this place so much, you can't go wrong with this hotel and other guest that we spoke to that had stayed in other hotels in the same area agreed that this place was the best.

If you've booked this place you've picked a fantastic hotel, if your thinking of booking stop thinking and just book it!! You will love it.

Room Tip: We stayed on the 3rd floor of villa 20, we had no problems with bugs and the location was great.

We stayed for 2 weeks returning on 5th Oct. at the Colonial section in room 1625 and we found this to be central to all amenities. It was as close to go to the Riviera/White Sands lobbies as the Colonial/Kantenah (5-10 mins walk to each).

The complex is big, but you can get everywhere quickly when you discover the short cuts. If you don't want to walk you can use the trains from lobby to lobby or the shuttles to your room. We only used the trains when it was raining, however if you plan your route correctly, you can get from your room to any lobby by covered walkways.

Rooms.... We stayed in a standard room which we found was quite adequate. The room was spacious, air/con good if not a little noisy, pillows are a little lumpy but there are four and a spare in the closet, so just pick the best one to sleep on. The room was very clean but ' yes ' a little dated although some rooms have seemingly been refurbished. Fridge stocked daily and a coffee maker. Bed linen changed regularly and clean towels daily.

Pools ....The pools are lovely and the small ones hidden in the jungle along with the saltwater pool are ideal if you want to relax and sleep off the food / alcohol. They all have their own bars.

Bars .... There are an abundance of bars, we found that watching the live bands playing in the various lobbies was a good way to finish the night off. The Colonial and Riviera lobbies stop serving at 1.00am, but if you haven't had enough by then, you can go to the 24hr beach bars or the disco. We used Hemmingways bar in the Kantenah lobby after our meal because it was air conditioned and served quality drinks until 12.00. Alex the barman has a constant smile and will get you any cocktail you ask for. This is also a good place to chat to other people at the bar. There are a wide selection of books here to borrow and exchange.

Restaurants.....All restaurants are excellent. The speciality restaurants are quality and the pager system works well, if they can't seat you immediately. The buffet restaurants have something for everyone and if you don't get a drink brought to you, just ask.
At lunch time you can use the pool side buffets, the main buffets or just pick something from the menu at the beach bars.

The staff without exception were friendly and helpful, if you know a little Spanish, use it, if not the staff will know enough English to help you.
We could not fault the holiday, the grounds are beautiful, the wildlife interesting and we were never bored during our stay. The size of the resort is the bonus.

If you can swim, go to Akumel beach to look for the turtles. We went on the local mini bus (pick-up opposite side of road to hotel) and found some massive turtles (about 4 feet in diameter). Snorkels and life jackets can be hired from the beach.

WORDS OF ADVICE......We bought our souvenirs from the stalls which are set up in the lobbies each evening. We were promised an excellent deal from a very nice man if we bought more than one item. He advised us the price would be far cheaper than than the hotel souvenir shops, however, he knocked 200 pesos off our 1300 peso bill and we found the next morning we had still paid much more than the hotel souvenir shop .....you win some you lose some, but he did sound like a very nice bloke, if we were'nt going home the next morning he might have got a few nice words from us !!!!!

We got quite a bit of rain during our stay and although the staff constantly try to keep the floors free of water there are lots of wet patches and the floors can be very slippy, hence lots of people wearing plastered limbs.

MOSQUITOS.....We went overboard and used Avon Skin So Soft, Superdrug Insect Repellant Aftersun and finished with a spray of Jungle Formula mosquito repellant.... we only had one bite each, until the last night, we became complacent and only rubbed a bit of Skin So Soft in our exposed areas. We return home looking like a mild case of measles.

Birds can be a nuisance in the outside restaurant, but they've employed an new member of staff to help.....see photo.

The resort is excellent and extremely well run.....just go and enjoy.

Make a point of all Royal Suites offered. Best by far. Early mourning private rest. can only match same at P. V. but late night meals with steak and lobster can't be touched. People in P. V. you really can't match since M.D. was so great. Just great service no which way you look at it. The Royal Suites in the D. R . also stands out with the pool bar. Hard to find the best but I'll have to go with Yucatan Royal. Don't get me wroung the service at P.R. was untouchable but the food at private rest. in Yucatan decides. If this helps I'm headed back to the Yucatan in a few months.

Room Tip: Great trip
