“Just what we expected.......”
5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed October 7, 2012

We stayed for 2 weeks returning on 5th Oct. at the Colonial section in room 1625 and we found this to be central to all amenities. It was as close to go to the Riviera/White Sands lobbies as the Colonial/Kantenah (5-10 mins walk to each).

The complex is big, but you can get everywhere quickly when you discover the short cuts. If you don't want to walk you can use the trains from lobby to lobby or the shuttles to your room. We only used the trains when it was raining, however if you plan your route correctly, you can get from your room to any lobby by covered walkways.

Rooms.... We stayed in a standard room which we found was quite adequate. The room was spacious, air/con good if not a little noisy, pillows are a little lumpy but there are four and a spare in the closet, so just pick the best one to sleep on. The room was very clean but ' yes ' a little dated although some rooms have seemingly been refurbished. Fridge stocked daily and a coffee maker. Bed linen changed regularly and clean towels daily.

Pools ....The pools are lovely and the small ones hidden in the jungle along with the saltwater pool are ideal if you want to relax and sleep off the food / alcohol. They all have their own bars.

Bars .... There are an abundance of bars, we found that watching the live bands playing in the various lobbies was a good way to finish the night off. The Colonial and Riviera lobbies stop serving at 1.00am, but if you haven't had enough by then, you can go to the 24hr beach bars or the disco. We used Hemmingways bar in the Kantenah lobby after our meal because it was air conditioned and served quality drinks until 12.00. Alex the barman has a constant smile and will get you any cocktail you ask for. This is also a good place to chat to other people at the bar. There are a wide selection of books here to borrow and exchange.

Restaurants.....All restaurants are excellent. The speciality restaurants are quality and the pager system works well, if they can't seat you immediately. The buffet restaurants have something for everyone and if you don't get a drink brought to you, just ask.
At lunch time you can use the pool side buffets, the main buffets or just pick something from the menu at the beach bars.

The staff without exception were friendly and helpful, if you know a little Spanish, use it, if not the staff will know enough English to help you.
We could not fault the holiday, the grounds are beautiful, the wildlife interesting and we were never bored during our stay. The size of the resort is the bonus.

If you can swim, go to Akumel beach to look for the turtles. We went on the local mini bus (pick-up opposite side of road to hotel) and found some massive turtles (about 4 feet in diameter). Snorkels and life jackets can be hired from the beach.

WORDS OF ADVICE......We bought our souvenirs from the stalls which are set up in the lobbies each evening. We were promised an excellent deal from a very nice man if we bought more than one item. He advised us the price would be far cheaper than than the hotel souvenir shops, however, he knocked 200 pesos off our 1300 peso bill and we found the next morning we had still paid much more than the hotel souvenir shop .....you win some you lose some, but he did sound like a very nice bloke, if we were'nt going home the next morning he might have got a few nice words from us !!!!!

We got quite a bit of rain during our stay and although the staff constantly try to keep the floors free of water there are lots of wet patches and the floors can be very slippy, hence lots of people wearing plastered limbs.

MOSQUITOS.....We went overboard and used Avon Skin So Soft, Superdrug Insect Repellant Aftersun and finished with a spray of Jungle Formula mosquito repellant.... we only had one bite each, until the last night, we became complacent and only rubbed a bit of Skin So Soft in our exposed areas. We return home looking like a mild case of measles.

Birds can be a nuisance in the outside restaurant, but they've employed an new member of staff to help.....see photo.

The resort is excellent and extremely well run.....just go and enjoy.

Make a point of all Royal Suites offered. Best by far. Early mourning private rest. can only match same at P. V. but late night meals with steak and lobster can't be touched. People in P. V. you really can't match since M.D. was so great. Just great service no which way you look at it. The Royal Suites in the D. R . also stands out with the pool bar. Hard to find the best but I'll have to go with Yucatan Royal. Don't get me wroung the service at P.R. was untouchable but the food at private rest. in Yucatan decides. If this helps I'm headed back to the Yucatan in a few months.

Room Tip: Great trip

We returned to this hotel 20th sept to 4th oct 2012. It was even better than our first visit in sept 2010. They upgraded our room to a junior suit and Luis on reception was very helpful. Some of the staff remembered us from our previous visit. In the lobby bar Maria and Lucy were great we had excellent service but all the staff in the looby bar are great. The annimaction team work very hard and Nemo and Sergio were vey good alway enjoying a laugh with the guests. The food in the buffet again was excellent with so much choice it was hard to choose. The Al a carte resturants were fantastic and over both our visits to the hotel had tried them all. The hotel, grounds, rooms and pool area are kept spotless and even the pool is cleaned all round every day. We are already looking forward to a return visit

Room Tip: Colonial blocks seem to be more central

Just returned from another glorious trip to Grand Palladium ...
From the minute we stepped through the door we were greeted like family and treated the same. We took my best friend Fiona and stayed in Mayan Suites 3001 and 3002 in the Colonial section.
For us the best location in the Colonial ...so close to everything and very quiet.

We had regular visitors of many furry animals around our rooms and loved every minute of it.
The staff just get better and better and the hotel is immaculate 24/7.
The food is the ala cartes and Buffets was amazing and having a gluten intolerance and being able to eat food anywhere is a god send. The gluten free menu's have a great choice and I was never short of food.
There have been some menu changes in the ala cartes which was very welcome and amazing ice cream and ice lollies available at the kantanah beach bar was another added bonus.
The hotel was a little quieter than when we went in April / May but that was great for us.
My husband did many many dives with Scuba Caribe on the beach and took some fantastic photo's and video's of his dives.
We had a couple of days of monsoon rain but it was so warm it was like walking through a shower and the animation team brought so many activities into the lobbys and theater area's that people were never bored and always entertained...well done to Ricardo and the animation team.
Whilst we were there it was my husband Paul's Birthday...what a great day we had... Paul went off diving and the dive crew helped myself and Fiona decorate the dive centre..( my husbands second home... lol lol ) The wonderfull food and beverages manager Alejandro had the biggest chocolate cake delivered to the dive centre with plates and forks and napkins and when he came from diving was met with champagne and music and cheers and everyone singing happy birthday...then we all enjoyed the cake...which had been made gluten free so I could have some...THANK YOU Alejandro for all your help in organising this.

The shows are still as amazing as ever and the bands in the lobby at night really kept us entertained...especially the one in the Colonial called GOLDEN SOUND...great music...and she has a great voice and really gets everyone up singing and dancing...ended up making friends with some Russians and non of us spoke the others language but...we still had great fun.

Went over to the newly names ZENTROPIA Spa.. Formally Renova Spa...YES...a few things have changed but in my opinion...for the better...
The place is SPOTLESSLY clean and many products are now displayed in units for you to buy.
THE CHANGES..............
NOW...when you arrive for treatment you are taken into a changing / shower / locker room behind reception and a locker with a key is given you...there you are asked to put your things into the locker and change into a dressing gown and slippers...you are then given a short tour of all the facilities before being taken into a wonderfull room to await your treatment... the corridoors are now very dim and candle lit and the aroma oils burning are devine..

When you finish your treatment you are now offered water / juice / lemon tea or champagne..nice touch I think.
..
WHAT I WOULD SUGGEST... is that if you like myself you always tip your therapist ..TAKE some cash in with you in your dressing gown pocket...as when you finish you say goodbye to your therapist and go back to your locker room ...probably where you've left your cash.

This hotel and its grounds are spectacular and the staff work 24/7 to keep it looking amazing.. there is so much to see and do and it really is like a home from home.

I would just like to say a big big Thank you to Joshino ( the director) for looking after us so well and Alejandro for my gluten free cakes in my room and pauls birthday cake...and to all the guest services girls who smile all day long and deal with everyone with a smile...especially Abigail and Carmen...Love these girls.in fact a massive THANK YOU to all the staff who really...yet again...went out of there way to make our holiday...TRUELY...AMAZING...AGAIN

Room Tip: The Colonial section is central to everything

We went from September 17th 'till October 1st to this great resort.
It's hard to discribe how great it was, and it went beyond our expetations.
The staff, food, grounds, jungle, beach, facilities, etc etc was just wonderfull.
The room was big and very well cleaned every day.
We got a free upgrade to a junior-suitte, because i wrote an email before that we came for our 16th wedding anniversary, and my only request, (we booked a standard room) was a room in block 6 or 7 on the top floor with a kingsize bed.
So at check in i mentioned that mr. Ledesma made a note and the recepcionist Luis (great guy) told me that he was aware of it, and welcomed us like royalties.
He said that we did not get the requested room, but were willing to give us a juniorsuitte in block 9, room 1916, which was great, and we even had a little of ocean view as well. So special thanks to Luis from the reception, he was so helpfull and didn't hesitate helping us with any questions we've had, and we got a red wrist (repeating guests and special occasions) instead of a purple one. (firtst timer)
The lobby was stunning, with lotst of seats, plants, fontain and very tastefully decorated in colonial stile.
The bell-boy brought us to our room and explained all facillities in the room.
After a little freshing up we went to the buffet restaurant and were escorted to our table, after we got a desinfection gel on our hands. (they do this in every restaurant)
The food was very wide ranged and varied and teasted always great!
The longest we had to wait for a drink was less than 5 minutes!
The staff in the restaurant is cleaning on and on and the food is tested very often on temperature and quality.
After a long trip from Holland we were glad that we could turn to bed, because we were dog-tired.
The next morning we could discover the whole place. We were already up before sunrise, so we could see the sun coming up, very beautiful.
We went for breakfast which tasted very good and also with a big variety.
You can eat and drink every were the whole day, and also the many ala carte restaurants were lovely and great.
After that we went to the main pool, which is great with his stone beds, jacuzzy in the middle and even a poolbar.
The beach was even as great and you can eat and drink 24/7 at the beachbar.
The first days we got a little lost in this big resort, but with the map you receive at check in, you will learn very quick how to get every were in a few days.
At night in the lobby is a great show with professional entertainers from POP (people of Palladium) and after that you can enjoy several live-bands every!!! night, in front of the sportsbar.
The bartenders and waitresses are great as well.( i believe every mexican is born with a smile and never got rith of it.)
Special thanks to bartenders Luis, Santiago, Valentin, Alejandro and the ones we forgot to mention.
They were always working very hard, and even had time for a little talk with you.
If they saw that our glass was empty, we got new drinks in a sec.
The whole place looks great with the many pads and bridges in the middle of the jungle.
You should see and found out your selves that it's the best you've ever seen.
We went for 2 weeks, and still haven't seen it all and couldn't enjoy all of the ala cartes, so we need to return, we just have to.
We definitely will return to Grand Palladium, we loved it!!!

ps, the people who ar complaining about the staff, food, grounds, rooms etc, should stay at home, because nothing will be good enough for them, ever!!!

Me and my friend were travelling back to this hotel. It was our second time. So we were really excited going back knowing how much fun we had last time.

With it being our second time we were told by some other guests we should of had a red band, so they would recognise us. When we went to reception they had no recollection of our last stay so we just had to stay with the purple bands, didn't really bother us but it would of been nice to have been recognised as guests who have stayed before.

Rooms: They were great. air conditioning. you get two room keys so we kept one in the air con whilst we left the room. So having a hot day in the sun it was nice to come back to a chilled room. The cleanliness of the rooms were amazing. We were entitled to free usage of the contents in the fridge. Which we took advantage of the Sol's whilst getting ready.
We each had a double bed, which were comfortable and was nice the housekeeping making and tidying the room for us each day. Some days we would return to the room and they had made towel animals for us which was nice.

Restaurants: We Only went to 3 of the restaurants because we thought there was so much variation with the buffet they have a different theme every night of the week. You have to admire the perserverance they have with decorationg it each day and night. But the restaurants we went to were amazing! We went to Ribs & more. Possibly some of the best pork ribs i've ever had. nothing to complain about! El dorado do gorgeous steaks! cannot emphasisize on this enough was beautifully cooked. And we also went to the mexican restaurant in the colonial lobby and ate traditional chicken fajitas. yet again beautiful. the waitor was very funny and attentive!

Entertainment: I cannot make any complaints about the entertainment team. They make you feel like family and get you so involved in the activities around the pool, in the shows and with the dancing at the events such as the white party and pirate party. As we have been before there was a few members still there and they welcomed us and got us involved all the time. They are so fun and energetic people. Don't know were they get there energy from, from working all days around the pool then doing shows on the evenings. I admire them all for all the hard work that they put into everything to make peoples holidays special.

As there was a club in the riviera bit the only time we went in there or knew when it would be busy was when the animacion team was in there to get the corwd pumping other than that it wasnt really that much busier. However we did go out a few nights away from the hotel, we went to playa del carmen and went to coco bongo, senor frogs, shots, blue parrot and a few more clubs. it was nice to experience a different night out compared to here in england so we took full advantage of it. Especially the foam party and the blue parrot it was amazing! Coco Bongo is definately a must to go, with a live show and disco and all inclusive bar. yet again they get the corwd involved in the shows bringing them up on bar stage to have a dance etc. Coco Bongo is AMAZING! However we went to senor frogs on a friday night and it was quiet which suprised us and a little disapponting however the various amount of cocktails and shots they do are amazing!!

Overall, we had an amazing holiday and we would love to keep returning back to the hotel aswell as working there ourselves one day. The diversity of wildlife around the hotel is amazing getting close to wildlife etc. The two weeks just fly by because you are always busy doing something which makes the days go quickly unfortunately. Theres never a dull moment even when its raining they entertain people in the lobby.

The good: Food, staff, wine, free wifi in lobby, grounds, beach, the diversity of the guests from all over the world.

The Bad: The rooms are in desperate need of a refresh. The beds are uncomfortable, no mattress pad and lumpy pillows. The lobby is open-air and all the couches and chairs smell of mildew. They don't segregate the smokers in the lobby area so no matter where you sit to enjoy music or wifi you are surrounded by smokers...while we were there the smokers vastly outnumbered non-smokers. The only non-smoking bar/library is lovely but they don't open it until 6pm.
