We wanted for nothing..........really nothing. Super friendly staff, really really clean, excellent beach. Going back very soon ........like super soon. If you can find something wrong with this resort you are just way to picky. Oh did I forget to mention the awesome food.

Excellent resort. The beach was beautiful and they took care to keep it clean and removed any rocks/seaweed accumulations on a daily basis. There were plenty of chairs, although some areas were full early in the morning. It's no problem if you don't mind being at the ends of the beach (it's also quieter!) or are early risers.

The property itself was clean, beatiful and spacious. The buildings were well maintained and decorated; the lobby was grand and the restaurants were open on the gardens, which was very nice. It does allow birds to fly in but the staff are very quick to clear the tables so they never have time to get to table food and there are none at all in the buffet sections.

The rooms themselves were bigger than expected. We had a king-sized bed plus an additional double bed, perfect for three people, and the overall condition of everything was excellent. The ambient humidity did make it hard sometimes to dry towels and bathing suits though. Have extras or give yourself time to dry in the sun on the beach rather than overnight..! Housekeeping did a good job every day and left interesting towel 'sculptures'. Thank you Alfredo!

The food itself was the usual buffet fare but a notch higher. They also had different themes every night which provided a nice change of pace. Unfortunately the desserts were almost all disappointing. They lacked strength in flavor. We tried three restaurants: italian, brazilian and seafood. The food was better than the buffet in all three and the service was friendly and attentive. On the downside the brazilian restaurant seemed to be lacking in staff and it was much slower.

One thing was annoying: as you had access to all three connecting properties (Akumal, Coba and Tulum) plus service from the lobby to the individual rooms, there were a lot of shuttle vehicles. That in itself is great for mobility, but it means a lot of traffic on most of the paths. When you're trying to have a nice stroll in the evening with friends or family it's very annoying to have to pull over constantly or go single file to let the shuttles pass. It felt like walking on a busy street.

Finally, the staff were all great. Smiling, attentive and friendly overall, they did a great job in making us feel welcomed and relaxed. A surprising amount of them spoke a little bit of French in addition to Spanish and English! It's a very good value for the price and I would definitively recommend that property to anybody looking for a nice trip on the beach.

The food, rooms, staff, entire hotel were all wonderful. We always had clean sheets and towels. There was almost to much great food to choose from. We loved the ice cream. There were lots of pools and sitting areas at the beach. Site seeing was close by. We had a wonderful tour to Coba Maya ruins. The guide was great. There were a lot of tours to pick from, both adult and family friendly. Everything at the hotel was in walking distance but if you don't want to walk you can wait 10 minutes for a golf cart to come by and pick you up. It was like a city bus system. You just had to wait and they came by. I would recommend it to anyone. The only complaint I had was that there wasn't any local culture entertainment at the evening events. I would have loved to see their dancing, singing, and more of their culture. Also, I didn't like listening to Christmas music starting December 1st. I would loved to here their music instead. Kim

Room Tip: Choose a room at Akumal or Tulum. They have the beach front. Coba doesn't have beachfront.

We stayed here in late November 2013 and will definitely go back here. We stayed on the third floor of one of the villas and didn't mind walking up or even walking around the resort. It was faster than waiting for the little train sometimes (unless you wanted to go to Coba or Tulum) the resort wasn't sooo huge that you even needed a little train to take you anywhere. A little walking never hurt anyone! The room was always clean and a new little towel animal awaited us each day. The mini bar was always stocked. Fidelia was a very friendly, smiley lady! The grounds were beautiful and there were always people cleaning up and grooming it. The pool was clean and the animation team (Gilberto and Fernando) were very enthusiastic on the pool deck and at the beach. The beach has PLENTY of chairs to go around. The snorkelling was awesome. Definitely bring your own snorkel with so you can check that out. Beyond the roped off swimming area there was alot of coral, which is perfect for snorkelling of course, but if you want to walk there, you'd need water shoes to protect yourself. Food was great. Lots of different variety to chose from at the buffet... the a la carte restaurants were pretty good. We thought the Italian one at the Coba was the best one, and heard that from other couples as well. Of course we only ate at three, of which the Arlequiem was our least fabourite. My husband asked for shrimp something and they gave octopus, which tasted like the "bottom of the ocean", but yeah, I suppose that could've happened in a restaurant here too! Mario in the dining room remembered how we took our coffee and what we liked and if we wanted water or a different drink from day to day... he was excellent! The staff was very hardworking and friendly. They remembered our names and enthusiastically greeted us whenever they saw us. Staff deserve to be tipped.... they often went the extra mile to serve us! We absolutely loved it here.... and will definitely recommend this to anyone we know. We'll be back!

This hotel is perfect, the grounds are amazing, it's got beautiful views and a great entertainment team. We loved Katrina and Martin they were so friendly and always smiling, you can tell they love their jobs!

The A la carte restaurants are the only good ones, mikado is a must, get a show table it's an experience you won't forget. Also the Brazilian restaurant is great! We also went to the dolce vita and tequila and they waiters were great, only one that let us down was the Mediterranean one, they had a wedding group and once they left they were too busy cleaning up to serve us, the restaurant was so quiet.

What let us down was the service, it was not that of a 5 star, this is my second time to Mexico and I've experienced 5 star service. The restaurant staff were slow, there wasn't enough of them, they were obsessed with cleaning which is important, but you would go in they'd come and ask if you wanted a drink, and then it never came. They don't have machines to make your own coffee and drinks machines are normally turned off. We went to tulum restaurant one night, and was disgusted by the fact a waitress dropped a glass, looked at it and walked off, for 30 minutes the glass was left on the floor, not cleaned and people walking in their flip flops, it's lucky someone didn't cut themselves, in the end we had to tell them to clean it up their response was putting a chair over it! Food was normally only just warm even when the restaurants had just opened, this is in all 3 hotels. The food was so much choice that you didn't struggle to find something, it just should be hot.

Also we locked ourselves out of our room and forgot our key, which is our fault yes, but then we asked the reception they took 40 minutes to come and open it, our room was less than 5 minutes away!

Night time entertainment was ok, the shows were repetitive though and mainly dance shows, the only ones we really enjoyed were the Michael Jackson show, the circus (although on our first week it was advertised and was definitely not a circus, we got some other rubbish) the acro dance show, and the Mayan night! They need it over a 2 week rota and once you've watched them once it's all the same.

Overall we probably wouldn't visit again, we payed a lot of money for this holiday and we didn't get the service we payed for. Too many Americans flashing their dollars getting served before the British!

Travelled here in late November 2013 for a friends wedding. I stayed in the Club Golden section of the resort, so my villa was only a short walk to the beach. The room was nicely decorated, comfortable and very clean. The housekeeping staff always kept my room clean, full stocked and I always came back to a cute towel animal.
The beach was clean and there were plenty of chairs but being right on the reef it made actually getting in the water a bit difficult; the area that you could swim in were always PACKED. I suppose that is to be expected though. The entertainment staff were friendly, engaging and always had something on the go to keep pool goers entertained. I visited the gym a few times throughout my week stay and the staff were always willing to talk and give you pointers if you needed.
The food in the buffets was great; there was always a wide variety of items to try. I visited a few of the a la cartes while I was there, Dolce Vita (Italian, on Akumul), el Pescador (Seafood, on Coba) & La Gran Tortuga-Rodizio (Brazialian steakhouse, on Tulum). I, along with many others I spoke to, found it VERY difficult to make reservations, which was annoying because when you went the restaurants were mostly empty and of the four my week stay came with, I only got to use three and one was for the wedding dinner. However, I have not compaints whatsoever about the food at the a la cartes. The staff were friendly and accomadating. The Brazilian steakhouse was way too good; the appetizer/ side buffet had options for everyone (we had a vegetarian and a Celiac in our group), and everything, for the most part, was approprately labelled.
Overall, the resort was worth it. I went single occupancy with round trip from Edmonton and it cost me about $2000 including taxes and fees for the week. I will definitely return to a Gran Bahia Principe resort.

The whole hotel from restaurants, pools, grounds and rooms are all spotlessly clean. The staff work so hard and are very friendly.

The room was spotlessly clean, a decent size and had the biggest and most comfortable bed I've ever had the pleasure of sleeping in. Never slept so well!!

We stayed in block 75 which was halfway between Akumal and Coba lobbies. This suited us as we like to walk about and personally think that Coba(and Tulum) had much better buffets that Akumal. The choice was always very good and food pretty tasty for a buffet. Very impressed.

Of the al a cartes we went to Mikado, Arlequin, Don Pablo (highly recommended. Ask for the show table at mikado) one of the fish restaurants(ok) and the Brazilian and Mexican (awful, buffet much better.) Make sure you book your a la cartes as soon as you arrive or even better before you go as they soon fill up.

The pools are plentiful, with some for kids, games and louder ones and others for chilling at.
The beach is not great. Gets crowded and rocky in places.

Our only real negatives would be;
having to pay £36 for a safe key. Disgusting!
the bar and restaurant staff can be a little slow
and the biggest problem which is not the hotels fault is tourists. Rude Europeans who don't know how to queue, say please or thank you and don't seem to realise the tongs in the restaurant are for picking up food and putting it on your plate. Don't use your hands! Then you have the load and annoying American/Canadians who seem to think everyone wants to hear their conversation. Then there was the group of English/Canadians shouting and singing football songs and drinking like mad. By 13:00 watching them in disbelieve one starts puking up in the pool, slowly drags himself out and continues to 'feed' the plants around the pool for the next ten minutes whilst his mates(woman included) laugh about it and carry on drinking. Classy!! I guess it could be argued that the bar staff should notice when people are completely hammered and stop serving them. Personally I wouldn't blame the hotel.

Anyways rant over great hotel highly recommended.

Also please don't pay silly money for a taxi. Walk to the main road and get a collective. It's so cheap. We used it to go to playa del Carmen twice(day and night), xcaret, xel ha, xplor, Tulum, and Akumal 3 times. We spoke to other couples who had spent $100+ for trips to playa and Akumal. We spent about $15
