i have just returned from a 2 week stay at the grand babhia principe akumel with my boyfriend and my family we had great time we tried the buffet in every hotel all had plenty to choose from you could always find something to eat for breakfast, lunch and dinner, we ate in the japenese restaurant twice first time we had the show table it was amazing to watch so if your going to book here ask for the show table,
brazillian - we wasnt to fond of the brazillian the starter was nice than the main meal
la gourmet - this was nice if its your kinda thing i wasnt to keen on it
mediteranian - there was not much to choose from on here although it was ok
mexican - i didnt think i would like it here but it was ok
there is a 24 hour snack bar by the activity pool were you can get snacks of a night made fresh and they put it out as a buffet of a day.there are racoons and coates around the snack bar wanting to be fed but they are so gentle dont be worried of feeding them.
The pool area is kept very clean there is never ever rubbish around the water is clean and the bar staff are happy to help and will do anything for you.
The reception area is kept clean and pretty big you can get wifi in there but thats the only place its free it cost a fortune if you use it elsewhere. they have photographers going round the pool of a day with different animals to take pictures i had mine taken with a monkey, lizard, toucan.
the animation team are great always seemed happy n love to dance the bar staff will do anything you can get named drinks if you ask for them if you dont ask you will just get the local stuff. me and boyfriend swam with the dolphins and had a fab time they such amazing animals. the beach was kept clean as was the clear blue sea we went to the tulum ruins and then there beach and we had a fab day n the beach there was fantastic we also went to playa del carman shopping there are plenty of bars n shops to go in there but my advice is get the shuttle bus as the taxi will charge you ridiculous prices. the are little trains that will take you from place to place such as hacienda and the other 2 hotels. hacienda is good there is a disco down there everyone goes down there after the show finishes in the hotel and your drinks are still free. the bedrooms are kept clean we had a juniour suite and we had a king size four post bed, lg tv, mini bar, couch and double bed and a jacuzzi in the bath so overall we had a great time and im hoping to return next year

Room Tip: chood block 52 as its close to reception and the resturant and the trains are always going past ther...

We had an amazing stay here in September as a group of 10 people from 3 years to 70. We stayed in the Akumal but made use of all the other facilities at the Coba and Tulam.

We found the buffet at the Coba to be better then the other two. We had meals at 8 restaurants during our stay, enjoying the Japanese and the Brazilian the most.

The site was kept clean at all time, you could see lots of gardeners and workers all over the site, plenty of food available from the snack bar, if you want something fresh ask for a Pizza in the evening, as they make them to order.

The swimming pools were very clean, no litter at all around the site, the beach was great, clear water, you could see staff cleaning up the areas in the evenings around 5pm.

We took a trip to Xcaret Park and Playa del Carmen town Centre using the taxi's which can be found at the hotel gates, make sure your barter they will give you a good price. We also visited the beach to swim with the turtles. If you buying presents make sure you use the town centre and not the shops the hotels provide which are 50-75% more expensive.

The rooms were massive, we had the golden ones, which had a queen size bed, mini bar, tv, couch, balcony, slippers and dressing gown. We had one issue on our stay when the shower hook broke but was fixed an hour after placing the ticket on the door to report it, I ordered room service on one occasion and the food arrived quickly, hot and was very tasty.

My daughter had her hair braids done in the hotel which look very nice and any broken ones were fixed, my wife and kids swam with the dolphins which they enjoyed a lot, and I went scuba diving from the hotel which included an hour and a half lesson in the pool and another 60 mins diving plus a boat ride. Most days the flags were red which meant we could not make use of the other water sports available.

The site contains plenty of beach area for snorkelling with crystal clear waters and plenty of fish.

The buffet food was decent for breakfast, lunch and dinner, including fresh meat, fish, pasta and pizza plus different themes on each night, Mexican corner was interesting and I tried a few things which tasted fine. Drinks were available from plenty of places on the site including bars and lounge areas.

We were not bothered by the sellers trying to sell the club at all which was good. All the staff were very nice and eager to please.

We took a walk around the beach to an old building they had been left to rot but had a beach area which was empty, I would love to know its story if anyone knows location here http://goo.gl/maps/kK0uT

All in all a great place to visit and stay.

Room Tip: We had villa 71 which was close enough to the facilities to not be an issue, no noise, near a snack...

The Grand Bahia Principe covers three sites, Tulum, Coba and where we were based Akumal, our family age group went from 9 years to 67 years, We used all the complexes and could not choose a favourite they were equally as good as each other, The beaches are protected by barrages in the sea creating a large calm swimming area, Take you goggles and snorkels the fish are amazing. Akumal and Tulum are on the beach Coba is a short distance away a 5 min walk or take the train there are quite a few running around all day up to 2.30am in the morning. seven pools for you to choose from also small relaxing spa pools, If you do not like noise make sure you find a sun bed away from the speakers if you go to the activity pools, but the pools are big so you do not have to avoid them. we used most of the Al a Carte the International was in my opinion the best, this was at the coba site,We walked everywhere and did not take long to get to where you wanted to go it also helped to shake off some calories because the food choice in all restaurants was excellent, do not stick going to the same one use them all. if you get peckish go to the snack bars they are open 24 hours, all the staff were warm and friendly and loved it if you can speak spanglish, (",), If you can drag yourself away take a few trips out Mexico is an amazing country full of history, all in all a great time was had by all. I must have missed something out but if you choose any of the three Akumal, Tulum, Coba, you will not be disappointed.

Room Tip: If you book early you could get an upgrade, so always ask.

Loved this hotel and had a brilliant holiday. The resort was clean and comfortable we loved our room
Although it is a huge complex you quickly learn how to get around and can enjoy the different hotels by using the trains - or walking
Food is amazing - yes some say it is repetitive but you can always find something and the various restaurants re great and we did not have any problems booing, we particularly enjoyed the Japanese and Brazilian
Pools and beds are ok no problems getting a bed
Entertainment - can;t really comment as we don't generally go but on passing ti looked ok
Very much enjoyed Akumal Beach and went oursleves on the local bus which was fun and cheap and loved the beach there, very casual and relaxing
Tulum Beach is beautiful we would have gone again if it had been the beginning rather than near the end of out stay
Chitchen Itza - good day out and enjoyed the cenote
We also swam with the dolphins but not on site, we went to the one about 45 minutes away. Although i did enjoy it I kind of still feel bad as even though they are clearly well looked after its a personal thing
All in all a great holiday and we will definatley go back
Oh yes - the spoons ! there just seemed a great lack of them you had to chase them down at mealtimes but small thing just irritating

Room Tip: We had a suite I think it was called - very nice

This was my second time at bahia principe riveria maya and it was just as good as last time when we stayed in Tulum. I stayed with myself, my boyfriend and my family and the age range was 19 to 72 and every single person in our party loved it.
This hotel is first class for everything, I don't know how anyone could want anymore. The a la carte restaurants are lovely particularly the Italian (dolce vita) but even the buffet restaurants have a great selection and are lovely. You can get branded drinks such as Smirnoff, Jack Daniels, Malibu etc at every bar if you ask. The hotel staff are amazing from the animation team to the bar staff and cleaners, nothing is too much for them, they work tirelessly and do such a good job. You can hire a safe but we choose not to and left our iPod , phone etc and everything was always fine.
I cannot stress how good this hotel is, I would recommend it to anyone I know.
I really don't know how anyone can complain about this hotel, it is like complete paradise and the people who do moan must be the most difficult people to please in the world and should probably not bother even going on holiday at all as they will never be happy.
I am looking forward to returning next year :)

Wonderful memories of such a wonderful, beautiful place. Me and my ptnr went for 2 weeks. Our first holiday to Mexico, we didn't have a clue what to expect, and then we got there. While being processed we were plied with the most gorgeous Margueritas, and decided to sit in the pool and beach side Burger bar to have more before we went to room. Room was amazing, part of a 9 room colonial style villa, which the complex was comprised of, all immaculately painted and very verrrry clean. Twin beds, but double sized twins, crisp, crease free sheets, whirlpool bath, complimentary bottle of tequila. Couch and table and chairs and big telly in the huge room also. There were efficient golf type trains that took you all over the complex and passed every 10 minutes so u could hop on all the time. Several pools and spas over the sprawling complex, beautiful gardens, bins and sand ashtrays everywhere and every morning there was new sand in them with the logo impressed in it. Such an attn to detail. Food was wonderful in the normal buffet but there were also different themed a la carte restaurants u could book, also in ur all inclusive. Spirits layed out at the bars so u could help yourself, champagne and orange at breakfast, absolutely ridiculously hilariously spoilt we were. There were several bars and entertainment venues like professional theatre with big productions, wonderful foyer with fantastic art, local wildlife like huge iguanas, cute coatumundi's and raccoons scurrying about the place, but they were not a nuisance. Reception was amazingly helpful, and there was a customer PR centre for you to ask anything. The white secluded beach attached to the complex was beautiful, had its own bar too, Caribbean Sea rolling up to us. Out of this
world. There were poolside games for the keen and kids, very family orientated, and there was a 24 hour snack bar Macdonalds style that you could always access, and drink at also serving very late. You could also use any of the other 2 complexes also which neighboured ours all included. Nightclub on the complex also which was away from the villas but we didnt use it and heard it was popular. We fell in love with the place and are going to its sister complex in Jamaica in 2014. Can't wait!!! Go to Riviera Maya
though, highly highly recommended.
