“Great place to snorkel!!!”

This was my first time here and wow!! It was a great place to snorkel and see all sorts of sealife. Because it's in a lagoon you don't have to worry about bad waves. Great for beginners like I was. I would suggest coming here very early before the crowds. Less people and you will see more sealife before all the activity scares it away.

There is no need to pay money to swim with and see turtles in a tank - go to Akumal Beach and you can see turtles in their natural habitat. Absolute heaven! The best way to get there if staying in the Mayan Riviera area is to hop on a collectivo bus, pay a few pesos, tell the driver where you want to go and get off at Akumal (the driver will stop there for you). It is a short walk to the beach from the main road. The beach is beautiful - clean, white sand and clear water with a few cafes offering drinks and food. There are no sunbeds for hire and the only shade is provided by the palm trees so it is best to get there before all the shady spots are taken.
It is possible to go snorkeling with a guide but if you are a confident swimmer and can snorkel there is no need - you can just go by yourself. You don't have to go out very far before you spot a turtle swimming and grazing on the marine grass. There are not that many fish to see unless you go much farther out to the reef but we did spot a few rays, clown and parrot fish. Altogether a wonderful experience.

The hotel is clean, staff are great, food is good and the beaches and snorkling are the best we've ever had. Walk out your room and be swimming with sea turtles! Too cool!

Lovely little cove, great snorkelling just off the beach to see the turtles, mantas, parrot fish and more, quite a small place so good place to pass through and stay just for 1 night.
