Love everything about it from the cool white sand, to snorkeling with the rays and turtles and lots of fish near the reef. 80 degree f water temp and gentle small waves. Great for the whole family.

I enjoyed Akumal Beach Snorkeling. We took a taxi there and were dropped off at the center dive shop (I believe).
My advice is to take the time to watch the video that they ask you to watch. It is informative. People need to educate themsleves on the environemnt they about to snorkel in.
It is sensitive.
Our guide informed us that teh the reef is dying, and that it is. If they do not take control of the tourism at this beach, then there wil be no tourism because the reef will dye and so wil the turtles and the numourous fish that call thtis home.
Thegovernement needs to enforce RESONABLE rates for guided tours only to enforcee routes, respect and they need to enforce reef friendly sunscreens for examples on how to try to preserve this eecosytem.

Beach and water was clear and warm for this time of year. Best
in snorkeling off the beach in Mexico, better than some of the reefs

We were returning customers to the Akumal Beach. We had been there 3 years ago. We loved it so much that we chose a resort that was deliberately close to Akumal and Yal Ku. This time we brought our kids and friends. We loved it so much (both times). We were able to see lots of turtles, big and small, school of rays and lots of coral fish.

We got there by taxi from Grand Sirenis. Brought our snorkeling equipment. We were there on Christmas day 2012. The beach seemed busy, but as we learned later this was almost the only work-free day for some Mexicans. The locals were sitting off the beach, on the rocks under the palm trees, considerate of the multitude of tourists. What a gesture! They seemed to enjoy just to do nothing for a while.

Unforgettable Xmas Day!

Akumal Beach is an amazing, easy and cheap day out from Playa del Carmen or Tulum. The collectivo from Playa cost 35 pesos and stops within easy walking distance of the beach. We didn't want to get our hopes up about seeing turtles but were pleasantly surprised to see 6 or more i during out day half day there. Access to the beach is free and to do the trip on the cheap borrow a snorkel from elsewhere and don't bring anything you can't leave on the beach (although you can rent lockers for 100 pesos). Life jackets are NOT mandatory though we did get told they were by someone looking to rent us one.
