This resort gives you an unique experience. From the beginning until the end of your stay every detail is taken in consideration by the staff members and every employee who has the responsability to take care of your needs. Jaime, our host, who was responsible of all the reservations for dinner, all the restaurants waiters and the room's maids made our stay enjoyable. The restaurants, spa, gym, pools are great and the rooms spectacular. An experience that I want to repeat.

Let me start by telling you that, in my humble opinion, UNICO is one of the best adults, all-inclusive resorts in Riviera Maya. If you consider yourself as someone with discriminating tastes, this is the resort for you. This is my second visit and review of UNICO, the first occurring in July 2017 (just four months after opening).

As soon as this resort opened, with was nearly perfect: outstanding service; superior food quality; a nice balance of quiet and active area providing something for everyone. The design and construction of the resort is top notch. Every one of the elegantly designed rooms has a balcony area with views to the ocean. It is a beautiful place that attracts a diverse clientele. It immediately became—and remains—our favorite resort and getaway destination.

The place is SEXY. It smells great, and looks even better. It makes everyone feel sexy and want to be sexy. Of course, there are lots of sexy people. On both trips, we encountered professional model photo shoots, using the resort as a backdrop.

My wife and I have visited the Rivera Maya sixteen times, and stayed at many of the top-end properties. Stop looking at options? Trust us: this is the best we’ve found. We recommend it for couples, girlfriend weekends, or groups of adult friends. Kids are not allowed. It is clear that the resort is now becoming popular, because, there were three corporate groups and three weddings were held while we were there. Still, despite the nearly sold-out status of the resort, it never felt crowded.

It’s hard to find things to complain about here. It’s like distinguishing between “absolute” perfection and “near perfection.” However, here are some things to know that may make your trip to UNICO even better:

Upon arrival, you will be assigned a “local host” who is supposed to assist you in making your trip great. USE THEM! They can make dinner reservations, spa reservations, special arrangements (e.g., birthday), romantic preparations (rose petals on a bed), and helps with alcohol requests for the room. Don’t hesitate: just ask.

The food is excellent. There is no best or worst restaurant. They are all very good, with a wide variety of options. Early in your visit, be sure to get reservations for the dinner restaurants to ensure that it matches your schedule. Your local host can help. Mura House is the Japanese restaurant, and very popular. There are two different dining experiences: sushi and tepanaki. The latter is a lot of fun.

Here’s a pro tip: if you don’t see your preferred spirit behind the bar (say, Grey Goose vodka), just ask for it. They keep some top-shelf alcohols below the counter. If there was one disappointment this trip, however, it was the wines that were served throughout the resort. During our first trip, the wines were outstanding. We are definitely not wine snobs-we just enjoy drinking wine with meals. However, this trip we thought the complimentary Chilean wines were sub-par, both in both red and white varietals. One British guest remarked that the Sauvignon Blanc tasted like “petrol.” The Chilean chardonnay wasn’t much better. Come on UNICO: you’re better than that. We hope the resort improves in this respect, as it would make the entire dining experience even better. There is an option in some resorts to purchase higher-end bottles of wine. The prices at UNICO were close to U.S. restaurant prices, which was refreshing. We opted to purchase wine one night, but wish didn’t have to do that.

By most standards, the beach is very good. However, it is not the best beach in the area. There are some rocky underwater walk-in points, but there are also some great areas to enter the ocean. The beach area does, however, have great service. I cannot stress how important it is to provide a $1 tip to the service team, as they will treat you like royalty. It is also very important to understand that the beach area is ecologically managed because of sea turtles that lay eggs on the beach, particularly during the summer months. Scientists roam around the beach with special red lights to collect and protect the sea turtle eggs. The beach is cleared each evening to allow the turtles to access the beach.

The spa is excellent. With the inclusion discounts on some services, you should try it. The associated workout area (free) and hydrotherapy areas are great by any resort standard. However, if you’re an outdoor runner, don’t plan to run on the beach. The sand is too soft and not compacted enough. Also, there not much driveway to go long distances.

If you haven’t already noticed them in resort photos, there are nice bathtubs and beds on the balconies. The tubs are quite alluring for a romantic bubble bath. The balconies, however, have clear glass walls. Depending on where your balcony faces, you may not have much privacy unless dark. Some romantics, we noted, didn’t care to wait until dark. If you want to use the tub (and you will want to), opt for an upper-floor for more privacy. Also, swim-up rooms don’t have bathtubs.

Nightlife is limited to dining, bars, nightclub and occasional activities (e.g., casino night). However, it was perfect for us.

Finally, the resort is about a 45-minute trip from the Cancun airport. Make sure you get a private transfer so that you arrive as soon as possible for a wonderful stay.

Room Tip: Upper floor rooms have more balcony privacy.

5 stars from start to finish during our trip to Unico this past week. From the local host who greets you upon your arrival to the amenities and general facilities, this was one of my favorite trip as the thoughtfulness of Unico makes it truly relaxing.

Our local host, Jaime, helped us with our reservations for dinners and any excursions or spa treatments we had and was always a friendly, smiling face!

Speaking of massages, we got the 'frost' massage for a couple and I've never had such a nice spa experience! What a special and relaxing treatment!

Facilities wise -- beautiful! From the decor (AMAZING) to the cleanliness -- everything was perfect! Also having the oversized tub in our room made it almost impossible for you to have a bad day. Even when it was raining, we had such a nice time just relaxing in the tub and enjoying the beautiful view over mimosas.

Food -- we loved the Italian place but all of the food was amazing! Still thinking about a delicious lasagna that was a special one of our evenings.

Overall, everyone is friendly, and eager to help make your stay as nice as possible! Everyone was so kind as we celebrated our anniversary and we loved every second and look forward to going back! I miss our giant balcony tub already!

Wasn't too impressed with this resort, the beach is terrible, narrow, rocky and lounge chairs on beach weren't comfortable at all since you are basically sitting on a hill of sand. Food was very good, very slow service to non existent on the beach. no where to go and sit down for lunch except the buffet. pools were very crowded. Room service was very fast! The room was nice, balcony was very private, bed was the most comfortable. but seriously they need full length mirror in the bathroom or outside of bathroom area.

Everything is great! Food, pools, employees, grounds. Big knock is the poor construction of the rooms. You could hear the people upstairs like they were in our room. Outside noises were loud too. Definitely use a noise machine turned up LOUD!!! Get reservations into restaurants early as the Japanese one fills up early. Edgar as a host is freaking awesome. Highly recommend him.
