5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed May 14, 2014

My husband and I just returned from a week at Sian Ka'an a few days ago. We went the last week in April, weather was sunny and mid-80's every day. This was our first all inclusive vacation, and we had a wonderful time. We were looking for a quiet place where we could relax and enjoy spending time together, and that was exactly what we were able to do on our vacation.

We stayed in the Penthouse Suite, and enjoyed the jacuzzi on the roof, which was pretty private and fun. Our room was cool and very clean, our housekeeper Maribel came every morning while we were at the beach and made the room look great! The room was spacious and comfortable. The mini bar was restocked daily in the mornings. There is also a tv, which I enjoyed in the hotter part of the day because they have movies playing all the time, and it gave me a chance to learn more Spanish from the subtitles. The resort offers a turn-down service, so every evening when we came back from dinner, the bed was made up again, usually with flowers or a couple of chocolates.

The beach is a trolley ride away, but we never waited more than a minute for a ride. We actually thought it was more fun than just being right on the beach, and the trip down takes only a few minutes. Sian Ka'an has an exclusive section of the beach with a bar, and they bring drinks (both alcoholic and non-alcoholic) right to your chair if you want. We went to the beach every day and enjoyed swimming, though it is a little rocky. We never had a problem finding chairs in the shade, though I'm sure if we went in the afternoon we might have had more trouble. There are three pools as well, two where they usually have activities, music and fun, and one that is quieter.

We only ate at Yal Kul, the buffet at Sian Ka'an, but we really enjoyed the food. Every day they have a different theme, and they have an omelet station during breakfast and a pasta station during lunch and dinner, as well as lots of seafood and Mexican options (and American options if you just want to eat what you know). The service is really excellent. We ate with Miriam everyday for breakfast and lunch, and she provided excellent, attentive and friendly service which really made us feel at home. She even took the time to answer my questions and help me with my Spanish. All the staff are really friendly and want you to have a good time, and they definitely made us laugh a few times. We really liked the coffee, for anyone who, like me, was wondering if it would be good. There is also a snack bar that is basically open all the time. We took advantage of this especially to get pastries and coffee in the afternoon, and ice cream after dinner.

We didn't really check out any of the nightlife because we just wanted to spend time together, read, and write, but our last night we went to the Hacienda, which was really beautiful lit up and with music playing, and checked out some of the stores. Unlike some markets, the people here are not pushing you to buy things, though they are available to answer your questions, so you can just enjoy looking around. The pool next to Alux ("Aloosh") has a schedule with all the shows listed telling you where they are located, and trolleys continuously run from the lobby to all the other resorts if you want to explore or see any of the shows.

Overall, this vacation was exactly what we needed. They really take care of everything for you so you can just come and relax. Highlights are definitely the service, but also the great food and the clean, comfortable rooms. We definitely hope we can make a return trip soon!

We've been at GBP Sian Kaan in Jan/Feb 2014.
It was the first trip south when we did not request to change or upgrade the room.
Yes, the resort is not on the beach but we did not mind to catch the shuttle to get there. Lots of choices to go for dinner to GBP Tulum, Coba, Akumal. A week was not enough to explore all the places.
The buffet at the resort is spectacular from all points of view: service, food variety and quality, cleanness. The personnel is very polite and helpful.
The junior suit was modern and fully functional (nothing broken to report).

We already recommended to friends and they had an amazing vacation as well.

Something that I did not like it was at arrival at Cancun the wait in the bus before taking off. If we knew that we spend almost 2 hours we would take a cab to the resort.

We originally booked in Coba with a large group of 30-somethings but they upgraded us to Sian Ka'an because the main resort was over-booked. We were reluctant at first to make the switch since we'd be farther from the beach and most restaurants but we're glad we made the switch. This is an adults-only part of the resort that is far away from the main ones and tucked away in the jungle. The resort itself was beautiful and the rooms were much better than Coba. We stayed in Coba the first night until our transfer went thru and the room there was really damp, everything felt wet. And the toilet also leaked all over the bathroom floor. We called for maintenance (twice) and they basically said there's nothing they could do. We left that room the next day before the issue was addressed. So when we got to Sian Ka'an, which was across the street on a short golf-cart ride, we absolutely noticed the upgrade. The rooms were much newer and cleaner. We didn't mind being farther away from the main resorts at all - the buffets were actually a little better and the main pools were very clean and fun. We had a major problem with the restaurants thou. We tried to book our first day at Sian Ka'an and every single place we wanted was booked for the week. They would not allow us to join our group that checked in the day before. We ended up getting someone else's cancellation and was able to go to one of the places we wanted (the Brazilian meats) but they would not accomodate us fo any of the others. And when we got to the restaurant, it was empty! Our friends also told us that when they got to their reservations, all of the restaurants were always empty and they could not figure out why we couldn't be added to their reservation. Very frustrating. We went with a group of friends and barely got to dine with them. That being said, the places we did get to try were not all that great. The food was mediocre. The lobby bar waitresses were extremely friendlly and hard working, thank you ladies. The rest of the workers seemed un-interested and could care less if we needed anything or were enjoying our stay. This was my first experience like this in Mexico, usually they are extremely friendly and helpful. The activities staff were really funny and livened up the party- great job Spaghetti Boy and Chili Pepper. All in all, we had a great time because we were with a large group and the resort was very nice, I wouldn't say 5-star, but nice.

Room Tip: Don't stay on the 1st floor unless you want to sleep with some critters that crawl in.

FIRST CLASS VACATION. We only stay where guests overwhelming report excellent experience and GBP Sian Ka'an delivers everywhere. The General Manager runs a tight ship and Agnes Sipos with Public Relations knows how to make you want to keep coming back to Gran Bahia Principe resorts (our 5th visit GBP including Cayo Levantado, Ambar, Punta Cana, El Portello, and we will be back to Sian Ka'an again. Resort feel and grounds are "manicured junglely beautiful". All rooms are contemporary style, beds and pillows are great, rooms and bathrooms very clean, everything works. Food is delicious and safe. The two a-la-carte restaurants are elegant. We never had the same meal twice but would have if not so much choice at the buffet. The bars, drinks, and liquor are good. Service is very friendly and attentive to all requests. Miriam and Anselmo at the buffet really push service to the next level.... as did so many other staff. We started in a Junior Suite which was lovely and were upgraded to a Garden which really made our stay even that much better. The Penthouse or Garden suites are special. First resort where we were not right on the beach which gave us concern before the trip, but the beach is easy access via regular trollies and never an issue...in fact we had so much to see and do we only visited the exclusive Sian Ka'an beach once. Had two romantic room service meals, included, with rose pettals in the hot tub, etc...very nice. Activities: Golf course= amazing condition, scenery beautiful, challenging, very hot the day we went but well worth the effort to work of the meals and tequila. Beach= lovely clean sand (grainier than Punta Cana), schools of fish over foot long and many small colourful just around the break wall so take your googles or mask. The resort is huge when you consider the other 3 resorts you can visit if you have time but 1 week was not enough to see them all. Used the local buses at the highway which costs about US$2pp each way on 3 occasions to go to Akumal Beach (swim with sea turtles), Tulum to see the ruins and swim at the beach, Playa Del Carmen for shopping. Going by local transit was safe, friendly, air conditioned, adventure, which probably saved us US$400-$600 and we had a blast. Rented a cab for the day to go snorkeling at multiple cenotes suggested by the front desk cost us together US$75 plus tip... again more adventure and probably US$200 less than excursion rate and we could have taken another couple for a few dollars more. The huge Wellness Centre complex is tranquil, lap pools under the jungle canopy peaceful, not enough time for the spa. If I had to pick a weakness I would rate the nightly entertainment as 6.5/10 as some shows were good, some less than exciting but OK, and if I were going again I would ask about the schedules for the best shows at Sian Ka'an and the other 3 resorts attached which are massive and likely to have bigger productions.

Enjoy GBP Sian Ka'an! --- We'll be back for at least another week.

This review has been a long time coming: We got back from 5 spectacular days at Sian Kaan in February and let me preface this review by saying that spectacular doesn’t come close to describing this resort! But allow me to start at the beginning:
Travel:
we pre-booked a private shuttle from the airport to the resort through USA transfers and would highly recommend it. We gave them our arrival time to the airport and pick up from the hotel 5 days later weeks before we left and they were there right on time with very friendly service. The round trip for 2 people was $135- a steal really!
Resort/ Room: The check in was fast and easy and we loved the welcome margaritas! We upgraded to the pent house suite which I would highly recommend – the room was beautiful and very spacious and I LOVED the rooftop Jacuzzi! Seriously worth the upgrade! The Sian Kaan is one of four resorts in the Grand Bahia resort complex and the only adults-only one. I loved the fact that you can go to the any of the other resorts via convenient shuttles (I never found myself waiting more than 5 minutes for one) and enjoy them and head back to the quieter and more relaxing Sian Kaan. The other resorts, not being adult-only were typically more crowded and lively, so it was nice to be able to sample the ‘party atmosphere’ when we wanted to but not be surrounded by it constantly.
Pools/ beach:
Sian Kaan has 4 pools, each with its own flavor. The pool chairs were never full and it was pleasantly easy to find a relaxing bed by one of them. We also went to the pools at Coba and Akumal but did prefer the Sian Kaan’s pools. I was very excited about having a sushi bar by one of the pools and sadly I have to admit that I was a bit disappointed by it as they weren’t open for most of the days we were there. The only thing I would want differently is maybe having a pool bar at the Sian Kaan but the pool side bar was pretty conveniently located. The Sian Kaan does not have a beach attached to the property but the shuttle was a great way to get to the private beach area for Sian Kaan guests about 5-10 minutes away. The drink service at the beach was great and the amazing staff made sure we had a drink in our hand at all times!
Spa:
The spa is probably the only thing here I would say needs a lot of work. We booked massages, which were very good, and also some time in the sauna. the spa compared with other we have been to in mexico was very rudimentary and did not seem to quite fit in with the rest of the grandeur of Sian Kaan.
Food:
Usually food is my pet peeve at most all-inclusives but the food here was just amazing! The breakfast buffet had a huge variety and was always fresh and delicious. Manuel was always around for breakfast with a smile and had our drinks on the table the second he saw us walking in. Now I know he sees hundreds of people everyday and the fact that he knew who we were and what we drank blew me away! What a fantastic guy!!! The drinks served at this resort were probably the best I have ever had at any all-inclusive. They were never watered down and always delicious! Apart from the buffet we tried a couple of a-la- carte restaurants: Alux -which was amazing gourmet food, one I would definitely not miss! Maiko: a pretty decent Japanese restaurant at the Sian Kaan. I wasn’t a huge fan of their food but their green tea ice cream was delicious. Le Gourmet at Coba: was also very good. But I have to admit that one of my favorites as Pescador at Coba! We also had a private 7 course dinner at the pier that Claudia at the front desk helped us arrange and that was just phenomenal. The food was outstanding and the service was just impeccable! There was so much food that we were struggling to eat it all! This was also one of the most romantic places I have ever dined in and was where I proposed to my now fiancée (thank you Claudia for helping us create one the most amazing memories of our lives!!)
All in all I would have to say that I absolutely love Sian Kaan and I recommend this resort to everyone planning a trip to Mexico. I also feel compelled to extend Claudia in guest services another special thank you for making this vacation one to remember. She helped me plan the perfect proposal and made our stay simply extraordinary!!

Room Tip: The roof top pent house is worth the upgrade. We had a room on the 3rd floor right across from the A...

We stayed at the Sian Ka'an for 10 days as part of our honeymoon and it was excellent. From the moment we arrived the staff were warm, friendly & helpful and we could not fault them. We stayed in the premium junior suites in block 4 which was one minute from the lobby, reception area, buffet dining area, bar and entertainment area - the perfect location. The room was lovely and all the furnishings & fittings were of a high standard with a separate dining/sitting area, bedroom, kitchen, balcony & bathroom. The resort is vast and split into 4 areas, Sian Ka'an, Cobs, Akumel & Talum, all of which have many bars and restaurants all offering excellent choices of food and drinks. Staying at the Sian Ka'an we also had the opportunity to use the a la carte restaurants on 10 occasions, we used 6 of these during our stay. The private beach area is great and the staff serve you drinks direct to your sun beds and you are free to roam into all the other areas at any time. The entertainment package is also of a very high standard for all inclusive and better than anything I have experienced before. The buggies transport you all around the various parts of the resort and the drivers are all so friendly and helpful. The poo areas in the Sian Ka'an are quite shallow with the exception of the quiet pool which is slightly deeper and this is where we spent the majority of our time. We left the resort one day and went to Playa Del Carmen on the Collectivo (local bus) which is great and costs $4 per person. The buggy drops you close to the highway, you walk down the ramp and the busses stop and you pay when you arrive. Playa Del Carmen is great, also went to Cozumel which is not great to save yourself $26 and stay in Playa as the atmosphere in the bars and restaurants is really good. Back at the Sian Ka'an the drinks are plantyful, grey goose and absolut vodka, Bombay Saphire & Tanquery gin, Jonnie Walker whiskey, yes all the top brands for a superior resort.i can honestly say the Sian Ka'an resort is first class and I would highly recommend this place to anyone.

Room Tip: Book into block 4, it is close to the lobby etc and the entertainment finishes around 22.30 so no pr...
