On this trip to the GBP we decided to stay at the Sian Ka'an once more, now that it has become a Don Pablo Collection. One of the main reasons was for some quietness. For the most part we were successful in achieving this, but on a side note, we understand that this hotel will become Adults Only after November 1st. That will make it more desirable for those seeking solitude. We also wanted to try the new section since it was opened earlier this year.
Well the rooms, buffet, al a carte restaurants and the lobby are wonderful, as expected. But most importantly, the people are the best. Of course we have many friends throughout the entire complex so there were many we knew at the Sian Ka'an as well.
The buffet and a la cartes all excellent food and service from the employees (too many to name), is top notch. The Front Desk as well as the Bell Boys were always very helpful when called upon and the Food & Beverage staff provided excellent service during our stay.
A couple of drawbacks would be: 1)The transportation between all the hotels within the resort. Though much improved from our original visit, at times there are waits of about 20 minutes to get to the other side, which I believe are too long; 2) Another is having no beach at the hotel, but they do have a shuttle to their own beach area, which is nice for the SK guests; 3) and one more would be lack of drawer space in the rooms for unpacking your clothes. There are no dressers like in the other hotels and only a few shelves in the closet.
As this was our 33rd visit to this resort (having stayed at the Tulum on other visits), I have to say that we missed the view of the sea upon our waking every morning. Being on the Sian Ka'an side seems so detached from the 'resort' side but of course, those booking this hotel should know the lay out of the area from their research prior to booking.
However having said all this, we will of course return to the GBP in the future.
Thanks to ALL our friends of the resort. You always make our visits very special. Hope to see you very soon.

Room Tip: If you want a sea view, try the Tulum or Akumal. If you are a golfer, book the Sian Ka'an. The...

We stayed at Sian Ka'an from October 13th to 27th. We had a great vacation! The room (penthouse, building 7) was perfect, restaurants and food were excellent, golf was amazing, drinks were excellent (champagne day and night, delicious mojitos, amazing cappucinos, etc) and service was above and beyond. Bed could be a bit more comfortable though, even if we requested and obtained a mattress topper.

The ride to the beach and other properties was fun, the waiting time was reasonable. We also walked a bit around and saw all kind of fun wildlife. The beach is pretty rocky, and I was happy I had my water shoes. However, that kind of beach is great for snorkeling and shell hunting so I didn't mind at all.

Many thanks to Claudia who made our à la carte reservation in advance and made sure we had the room I requested, Ancelmo our amazing breakfast and dinner server, Selene, the beach server who was always around when we needed a drink, Limhii our server at Maiko, Samuel at the golf, Leopoldo the bell boy and so on! Also many thanks to all the other staff I don't know the name but smiled and said Hola! to us everytime we crossed path. Every employee seem genuinely happy to be there and do his or her best.

We will be back for sure!

I don't know what to add I think everyone summarized this hotel pretty well! Service, rooms, lobby, food, beach, pools.. all are amazing! Because I don't want to repeat what others said before I will just give tips about my own experience there to make your stay even better if you decide to book:

Some have said that the water was cold in the shower, just to confirm, you might have to wait 15-20 minutes sometimes to get hot water, I don't know why not always but it does get hot eventually! The pressure is not the best but good enough.

Buffets; I would recommend Sian Ka-an and Akumal buffets as I think they were the best in choice and quality combined together. All hotels in the resort are impressive and are worth going anyway.

Restaurants: Book when you arrive as they get fully booked quickly which is very disappointing (we have tried Arlequin; Maiko and Gourmet and they were all divine especially Gourmet in Coba, but Alux was full and is meant to be the best one).

Take mosquitos repellent as they can be very very very annoying and are everywhere after a rainy night/day!

Try the golf course at least once, it is sumptuous

There is a little market where you can buy mexican stuff near the tulum hotel, they have nice things, so come with extra space in your luggage!!

Please tip the staff/maids, they all deserve it very much and work so hard and long hours with always a smile. Not a lot of people tip, or always tip the same but forget the girls on the beach and also in the lobby bar...

The shuttles run every 10-15 minutes and are great fun, do not let this put you down. You can go anywhere in the resort by using them and it's actually dropping you in front of the beach and any other place! You visit the resort and go everywhere in 10 minutes.

Don't forget your snorkel equipment and water resistant camera! Fish are swimming around people hoping do be fed and they are beautiful.

Have a great holiday, and if you are going soon I'm very jaleous!! wherever you chose to go in the resort Bahia Principe is a good choice. You can ask me any question if needed :)

To the management:

Thank you for an amazing time, it was fantastic and we will definitely come back as soon as we can to try the penthouse!

The blue towel lending system is great and the service on the beach is a real extra!

Few little things that could improve your hotel:

to improve the shuttles service, perhaps you could use a color code on the cars (roof, front...) to help guests to know where each is going and avoid people to ask the driver. The sign at the front is not always right and it can be confusing :)

I would recommend you to have plug adapters in the rooms or at reception to be borrowed and handed back at check out

Also you should maybe put a cappuccino machine in the buffet area so people could get their own coffees or other hot drinks

Perhaps you could also start your own transfers from airport as it would make it easier for guests to book and make sure they are in good hands.

Brisa - thanks for helping us sorting out our problems with the UK bank

Thanks again for a great vacation

We visited in October for nine days. It rained a bit the first day but mostly Sunshine with scattered showers the rest of the time. The resort is beautiful and part of the Bahia Principe Complex which includes four resorts which Sian Ka’an guests have access to. The grounds are kept immaculately clean and manicured.

This was one of our best vacations. Great food in the buffet and it varied from day to day. There is a pasta station, oriental station, sushi, Mexican, made to order eggs etc. There is a carving station which varied from day to day. We loved the roast beef. Alux and Maiko are the 2 restaurants in the Sian Ka’an resort and we recommend both. Delicious food and the staff are just great. We also went to Don Pablo, Tequila and La Gran Tortuga. We enjoyed all the restaurants. Each had a little different atmosphere which made our trip more enjoyable. La Gran Tortuga does serve a lot of meat on skewers so remember to pace your self. If we had to pick a favorite it would be Alux.

The beach and pools are beautiful. Although the resort is not right on the beach, the trams run very frequently. We never ever had to wait very long no matter where we were going. It was actually a bit of fun and romantic jumping on the tram going to dinner at another resort. We loved walking on the beach which is quite long. Sian Ka’an guest have their own private area. Great Sian Ka’an beach bar and you also have access to the other bars along the beach for the other resorts.

We walked from the Hacienda to the resort in under 10minutes. We went across the 307 highway and walked up the main entrance. The highway is busy but not congested busy but you have to be careful crossing it. I run and it took me less than 10 minutes to reach the beach. We use to start walking and the trams would pick us up along the way which was fun. Of course you don’t have to walk anywhere but we liked doing it for the exercise. We rented bikes for an afternoon. There is a lot of wildlife in and around the resorts. We had to stop and let a group of Coatis pass while we biking. Beautiful creature and they just look at you and go on their merry way. Bikes are complimentary for the first hour.

We read a lot on the Trip Advisor forums on how to travel while we there. Rob and Vancouver have a lot of information on the forums which we found very helpful. We were adventurous and took the Collectivo (large van) up to Akamul Beach. It’s only 10 kms up the road and it is worth the trip. The beach is beautiful and we saw the little turtles which they were getting ready to be released later that evening. We also visited the Tulum Ruins. We got on the Ado (bus) outside the Hacienda and it was approx 25 kms south on the 307. This is an archeological site worth seeing and it also has a beautiful beach. The Bahia Complex offers trips to the various attractions in the area. We didn’t realize this until later. The pricing is reasonable and they pick you up at the lobby.

We had a room with a garden terrace with a Jacuzzi. It was nice to sit out after coming from the beach or pool. The rooms are huge and the beds are very comfortable. There is a mini frig which is restocked each day.

We took a certain amount of money for tipping. We tried to pass it around a bit, such as tipping the drivers, buffet staff, waiters etc. We left tips for the housekeeper and the person restocking the Mini Frig. Although it wasn’t necessary, you could tell the staff appreciated it.

We decided to have lunch at a couple of the other resorts to see what it was like. The buffets were bigger as they have larger crowds but the food was similar and delicious. The big difference for us was the wine. At Sian Ka’an you are served bottled wine from Chile while the buffets in the other resorts seem to serve it from kegs.

We will definitely be returning. We didn’t get to try the Le Gourmet ala carte at Coba which friends we met really liked We didn’t get to meet Claudia because she was on vacation. A lot of people in reviews and on the forum had such good things to say about her, particurly Rob. We didn’t get to see the Coba Ruins. We didn’t get to the Sports Bar and a lot of other places on the Complex.

The whole staff was very nice and professional. We can’t remember a lot of names but we remember Angel making our favorite drinks in the Lobby bar.

We received a lot of good information from the reviews and from the forum and we wanted to past our experience on. This is one of the nicest resorts we’ve been to. This was our first time to Mexico and we can say it rocks. Can’t wait to return.

There are approximately 5 hotels I believe in the Riveria Maya complex, and this is by far the best. Perhaps it should be as it is the only 5* hotel, but that aside, by visiting the other hotels you can tell the difference.

Pros:
Service is red-hot. There are plenty of staff, and generally speaking, they can't do enough for you. Even though this place is all-inclusive (and I have a 'fear' of all-inclusive as they are in my opinion often run-down and the service is pretty spotty).
The rooms are nice and as the hotel is new (I think only a year or so old) are still pretty tidy and well kept.
The 'Animation team' consisting of 4 guys and a gal holding some fun events at the beach and at the poolside and generally helping and talking to guest were brilliant. My 6 year-old son loved the cohort of Charlotte, Raul, David and Alex and the highlight of his day were poolside Bingo (k-k-k-k-Question-time!) and water-polo. Keeping him entertained for a good couple of hours a day was no easy task!
The buffet meals (breakfast, lunch and dinner) were the best I've ever seen and tasted - and that is not easy when pitted against some wonderful hotels in Switzerland I've stayed in.
More free drinks and cocktails than I could ever hope to have (and I'm not a tea-totaller) and brought to your table almost any time of day.
You can go to any restaurant in the whole complex to eat, not just the hotel's own buffet and two a-la-carte restaurants.

Cons:
Watch out for the suites; the 'separate room' is behind a flimsy wooden 6-part screen, it's not really a separate room. The rooms although well built do still let you hear quite a bit of noise from your neighbours, door slams, furniture moving and the like, and if you're below someone with a hot-tub pool on their roof.... you could be up late.
If you want to eat in any of the hotels restaurants on the rest of the complex, make sure you book up as soon as you get there or BEFORE. They seem to be almost permanently booked even though sometimes they seem to be at no more than half capacity seat-wise.
Though there are three pools on site none are as 'stunning' as some in the other hotels (e.g. Akumel). Though you have to fight (almost literally) for a sunbed at another hotel, the pool is a fun, varied, huge snaking thing with bridges and allsorts to keep kids entertained. The pools at Sian Kaan are just mostly rectangular affairs, though nicely done, are not that fun for younger kids.
