nice resort !not crowded !
beautifull rooms !
but most of all : The food is superb !
We never had this standard of food ever (we do travel a lot 4 or 5 times a year and have been all over the world)
This was real top-chef restaurant, but in buffet form. We couldn't realy believe this ! We made reservation in the specialty restaurants, but after 2 disappointments we decided to cancel the other specialty restaurants and stay in the sian ka'an ! The food was so wonderfull !
The chuttles to the beach are easy and fun with the kids ! Love to see the other resorts !
Go to the temples Tulum and Muyil ! The sites are close and so beautifull ! Try to go early so you will evoid too much people !
We were traveling with 2 kids and we keep saying : this was the best holiday EVER !
Specialy because of the food !
We loved it !

Room Tip: we had a garden suite, it is downstairs, with view to the garden, so you will have a nice terras !

Our family of four stayed from July, 2012 and had a great time- would highly recommend this resort. We booked transportation through USA Transfers in advance, no problems, they even brought the car seats we requested. Quick check-in, welcome cocktail for us, (juice for kids), took us to our room on golf cart. The room was very nice, I felt that it looked just as nice, maybe better, than the photos online. Our children (ages 3 and 6) stayed on the sofa bed, it was already unfolded and made up for them. We ordered room service, as we arrived late, so nice that is included at no extra charge. The buffet restaurant off the lobby was very nice, we ate breakfast and lunch there every day, tons of choices. We did one dinner at the buffet and booked the Japanese restaurant and Mexican restaurant at nearby resorts for dinner the other nights. We enjoyed both of them, I did not have issue with the lack of A/C that others mentioned. The transportation to the other resorts was great- we enjoyed the ride and looked for lizards and coati on the way, the drivers would stop to point out the animals for our kids. Please don't let the fact that the resort is not on the beach stop you from booking here- the drivers drop you off right at the beach, so it was no issue at all. The staff in general was very nice, especially to our children. There were tons of employees around these resorts, they kept the grounds immaculate. The beach for Sian Ka'an did have some rocky areas, but there were plenty of areas without rocks to swim in and walk through- no big deal, bring water shoes if you are worried about it (I didn't even use mine). The man made wave breakers were tons of fun to play on, everyone was climbing and running over them, sitting on top and snorkeling around. The drink service was pretty good, tons of towels. The dolphins are located right behind the beach bar, they will let you walk over and look at them without booking a session. If we didn't have such small children we would have definitely done this- the people looked like they were having a great time. The pools at Sian Ka'an were never crowded, could always find a chair in the shade. They were a little warm and not very deep- but great for kids and lounging! Overall, I would say this is one of the nicest resorts we have stayed at, it appeared to be much nicer than the other Bahia properties across the road. I highly recommend it for anyone looking for a low key vacation- this is not a party resort (which is what we wanted). Also, it seemed like most of the other guests were not Americans- we met people from Scotland, France, South America, etc..

Just spent a week here with my husband. Not one complaint food, accommodation, staff, private beach, transport, pools etc all worthy of 5 star rating. Cannot say that about other hotels you can use in Bahia chain they are miles apart from the standards at Sian Kaan. Bonus is no one from these other hotels can use facilities or eat at SK which makes it feel exclusive.
We ate once at one of the other hotels poor food no AC and mobbed with people we came out half way though the meal to get back to the tranquility.
Don't let the description of it being on a golf course put you off you wouldn't know unless you walked across to the golf club - which is still part of the all inclusive and serves top shelf drinks and a large variety of bottled beers.
Great fun by the pool playing water polo and bingo with a touch of class ( prize a swim with dolphins) Evening entertainment music and a bit of singing so don't book if you want a party atmosphere but do book if you want a true 5 star with class.

Room Tip: We booked a room with the rooftop jacuzzi and used it morning noon and night fab to get back and rel...

We had a nice 4 night, 5 day vacation at the Sian Ka'an resort this past weekend and
enjoyed ourselves. The room and food were both excellent along with the service and facilities
except for one issue. That issue being the lack of A/C in the buffets/ restaurants at the
other tied in resorts on property. When one, especially when required to wear long
pants, goes to visit a formal restaraunt and is forced to eat in sweltering heat, the experience
becomes sullied. We ate at both the Brazilian Rodizio and the Mikado Japanese
restaurants and came out entirely soaking wet due to the lack of A/C. We also ate one
evening for dinner at the Akumal Buffet and it felt like we were in a Sauna. Beautiful food on display, great ambience, but just miserable from the heat. Now we live in Florida
and know what the heat and humidity are all about; but seriously, this was excessive for
dining. Oh, one last thing, you may ask why we did not eat at the formal restaurants located
at Sian Ka'an that did have some form of A/C.... tried making reservations day one on our arrival and were Unable to get any times made available for us, yet it seems like each time we strolled past either of the two restaurants they were less than 1/3 full??? This reservation system for dining needs an update as it seems all these reservations are being made by many who never show up for the meal, yet those that really wish to attend are left unable to make a reservation for these locales.

We were here from June 21st to June 29th, this is a beautiful resort and if you are looking for a relaxing vacation this is the spot for you. I was worried about taking a tram to the beach and how the beach would be ( we have been to Bahia Esmeralda 3 times and love the beach there and the way the resort is located next to the beach) honestly the tram was no big deal and the beach is pretty nice.

Positive points:
grounds are beautiful and so are the buildings
Nice and quiet resort
The way the buildings are situated it felt very private
Rooms are very nice with a lot of space (we were in building 16)
Pools were nice
Access to other hotels and pools ( way to busy at the other resorts especially the pools almost impossible to find chairs)
Easy to find chairs at sian pools and beach (everyday I noticed at the beach if you left your towels after 2 hours the 2 waitresses serving drinks would take towels off chairs)
No issue getting fresh towels ( never seen so many extra towels)
Premium liquor
Amazing staff
Very good buffet and great ala Cartes
Amazing service in restaurants, bars, maid service, and animation team
I can keep going on with positives ......

Negatives
Easily 75 minutes from the airport and that was a bus going directly to the sian
A little more Spanish music at pool or beach would be nice
I am a light sleeper and 2 or 3 nights I would hear birds chirping around 5 a.m. (not a big deal but woke up due too them)

Please try a mango daiquiri at the beach they are soooooo refreshing and mojitos in the evening were great.

P.s. Forgot to mention was great emailing ahead of time for the ala carte restaurants we enjoyed both at the sian but the don Pablo was also amazing

This trip was the first vacation my boyfriend and I have taken together. This is first first trip to the carribean and all he asked for was blue water like we see on TV.
4 of us made the trip. My sister and her boyfriend came too. We checked in june 24 and checked out June 28. Worst decision ever. Wish we had stayed longer.
The ride from the airport was over an hour but the ride was nice. We used Amstar for transportation. We asked the driver to get there quickly and he drove really fast. Awesome driver.
We got to the resort about 12:30pm. From reading previous reviews, We knew our room would not be ready so we checked in and headed to the buffet for lunch. Let me say...the food and the service were excellent. So much to choose from and everything tasted good. After lunch, we made dinner reservations for some of the restaurants. We started getting upset beacuse nothing was available. The places we wanted to eat were "closed for service" or the times available were just not cool. Who wants to eat dinner at 10pm? Not us. We sat at the lobby bar till almost 3:30 before our rooms was ready. By the time we made it to our room, we were tired and took naps (we had been up since 6am).
The room was ok...didn't really look like the picture. My sisters' room, the floors were wet, fridge was empty and the white pillows on the bed were dirty. We called and complained. The floor dried, the fridge was stocked and they got new pillows. When we got to our room I went straight to the pillows and they are dirty. I called and complained but they were never replaced. We don't use pillows anyway so we put them on the couch and forgot about them.
From then on, we had a ball. Reviews complained about the trolleys but we loved the trolleys. They are always on time and ride to the beach and other resorts was fun and the drivers are entertaining. If you are a food lover, please don't bother eating outside Sian Kaan. The Buffets and the Restaurants at the other resorts are really bad. If I knew then what I know now, I would not have wasted my taste buds at the other resorts. There are no words to explain how good the food is here. I never got tired of the options.
Now the beach. OMG... so pretty. After reading some of the previous reviews and I bought a pair of swim shoes. I forgot them the first day at the beach and it was horrble. The beginning of the beach is so rocky. PLEASE get a pair of swim shoes. I bought mine from walmart for $8. Great investment. The water is so clear, we could see the fish without snorkel gear. Some fish popped in and out of the water. Last year, we stayed at NOW Sapphire and the beach was not clear and full or sea grass. One of the reasons we picked Bahia Principe is because of its location. Its close to Tulum Ruins and the water at the ruins is crystal clear. If you want to swim in crystal waters that you see on TV, this is the place. I just can not put into words how happy we were with the water and It was calm enough for you to swim and relax.
I never like to stay at a resort more than once but I would stay here again. I have been telling everyone about this place and I'm trying to get friends and family to stay here. Sian Kaan is super quiet and relaxing. If you like to relax on vacation you will not be disappointed if you stay here.

This was a sister trip- age 30 & 24. First time to Mexico. I have been to tons of resorts in DR so I was expecting a little something different from Mexico. The food was okay. We ended up eating pretty much omelets, waffles, ice cream and pasta every day. I liked that Sian was quiet- we appreciated that after taking the tram to the other resorts we had access to- def Sian is the better choice- the others are like zoos, too many ppl and the food is worse. Sian Ka'an has excellent alcohol/drinks, & they had raspberry vodka! Very quite resort. Staff friendly. We had a big issue with the Living Social deal spa services discount and they cleared everything right up with out much back and forth issue- very pleased at the way customer relations handled it. Spa services were good- the scrub and mud wrap was amazing!!! The Sian beach area was okay, I didn't like those ugly wave breaker things in the water. Further down by the other resorts- Coba I think, they have music and activities- very fun. Don't even bother making reservations at those restaurants. esp that Brazilian one- YUK. Food was not good, but we are fairly picky eaters.

Hope this helps.
