We've been in february 2012 and went back on march with a friend couples. The men wented to play golf and us relaxing on the private section on the beach. Everything is perfect, the sevices, the foods, super every night at the restaurant instead of the buffet. Never wait for the transportation beetween the gran bahia resort. It is so clean you could you could eat on the floor. We will go back for sure.

My husband and I have travelled extensively. The Sian Ka'an is truly a 5 star on Mexican standards. Their staff are highly trained and eager to please. At the end of each day we both felt that the resort was our little refuge - there was no difficulty finding a comfortable seat in the lobby bar at any time of the day or evening. Drinks were plentiful, mostly well known name brands. The bar staff knew how to mix a great martini ! The espresso coffee in the lobby bar was great. The food in the buffet was consistent and very well presented. In the two weeks that we were there neither of us felt the need to eat pasta ! The staff in the buffet were excellent especially Daniel, the manager, who made sure that we were happy in every possible way. The speciality restaurants were fine, particularly the Japanese. Beach access was easy with a short drive - no problems with that - and there was always a palapa ready and waiting and towels were plentiful. (no need for the early morning towel game here) The Holbox Bar at the beach is exclusive to Sian Ka'an guests and also had top shelf liquor (you will not get that at the other resorts on the complex). We used the La GranTortuga Restaurant next to the Dolphin Pool for our lunches and were served well there by Manuel.

We both felt that the Sian Ka'an is ideally suited to become the Adults Only section of the Bahia resort complex. It is perfectly situated for that, as the other resorts accommodate children and can offer far more activities for them. We saw many families with teenagers leave the Sian Ka'an for the other resorts during the daytime and return in the evening. After reading some of the previous reviews, other guests have felt the same way - that it should be Adults Only. Please consider this Sian Ka'an.

In conclusion we had one of the best vacations ever. We were there March 3-17, 2012

Room Tip: Rooms away from the Lobby are quieter in the evening hours

My husband and I travelled to Mexico with 2 other couples. Unfortunately we booked with Air Canada Vacations and were not impressed at all with Air Canada or Air Canada Vacations so please stay away from booking through this company.
Now back to the spectacular - Sian Ka'an was an amazing resort, beautiful, clean and the people were so helpful and friendly - especially Jorge at the front desk, I call him my "angel". We found our rooms to be comfortable and very well designed. We had read on Trip Advisor that there was trouble with hot water in the showers but we never had any problems at all. The food was exceptional, we mostly ate at the main buffet as it had so many choices and staff were always so happy to help you - Faustino was wonderful.
We were a little worried about not being on the beach but we actually looked forward to the tram ride, never had to wait more than a few minutes for one and the ride was less than 10 minutes. The private beach area was great, never a shortage of chairs and the bar was excellant - thanks to Carlos for introducing me to tequilla!!!! Although the beach was a little rocky it was just a short walk until you were able to find an area that wasn't - so it's no big deal.
Overall I would have to rate Sian Ka'an as a definite 5 star resort, definitely would go back in a heart beat and would definitely recommend this resort to family and friends....oh yes and also a special thanks to Candelario for his exceptional service.

I agree with most reviewers on this site, Sian Kaan is an excellent resort. The rooms are impeccably clean and very spacious. We stayed in a penthouse suite, which was very affordable, and the room was excellent. There is an in-room jacuzzi, which was perfect for long days. There are so many options for activities to enjoy while you're there, my personal favorite was the Dolphin Experience which is located on the Tulum resort where you have the chance to swim with dolphins and engage in up-close interactions with the dolphins. The food options are second to none, and there are 3 to 4 private dining restaurants available in each of the Gran Bahia Principe resorts. These meals easily would have run up to $100 for two people, but they're absolutely free (except for tip) and delicious. There are many water activities to enjoy and a dedicated beach for Sian Kaan guests, another plus. The only downside to the Sian Kaan resort is its distance to the other resorts, which can get pretty annoying. You usually have to wait 5-10 minutes for a trolley to come and the ride to the other resorts takes about 10 minutes. As night falls, the wait times get longer and frustration increases. Overall, this doesn't even come close to outweighing the many positives of this resort and I highly recommend it!

We have been to 4 other Bahia Principe hotels in Dominican but this was our first in Mexico and IT WAS FANTASTIC !! We have been to several other hotels in Mayan Riviera and Cozumel and this was right up there. Bahia has 3 hotels spread out along the ocean, and then this one which is newest and fanciest is located across the highway. Fast, frequent shuttles to your private beach with private bar and reserved beach and palapas area. Took shuttle back almost every day to have lunch at the poolside sushi bar at our hotel, often without anyone else around. Rooms were huge, modern, new all easy to walk to. Some nights chocolate strawberries were delivered to our room. You have access to all the other 3 hotels and all their restaurants, etc but they don't have access to yours. All the staff were very friendly and Oscar at the lobby bar makes the best Mango Margarita you have ever tasted. Restaurants were great not just at our hotel but all the Bahias. The Sian Kaan buffet is as good as any a la carte - had bagels and lox every morning for breakfast with piping hot cappucino. There is Dolphinarus right on site if you care for that, or the staff can help you catch a collectivo on the highway by the hotel's Hacienda and it is a 2 minute, 20 peso ride to the little town of Akumal where the Playa (beach) Akumal you can snorkel right from the shore and swim with wild sea turtles that come into the bay to feed off the sea grass on the sandy shallow bottom. It is incredible - these huge turtles are so gentle and they come right up next to you every few minutes to breath, sometimes swimming right up to us to check us out. Any of the 4 Bahia Principe hotels at this complex seemed nice, but the Sian Kaan is by far the newest and most luxurious with top notch service and amenities. I expect the only reason it is not a 5 star is beaciause they are not directly on the beach. We'll definitely be back.

Just back late last night from a fantastic week at GBP Sian Ka'an Golf Resort & Spa. Nothing but compliments to the Air Transat team from Halifax! Chose Club Class again & will have a difficult time traveling any other way.

This is the first review from us, but have been using TA reviews as a guide for the past number of years. As always, the good, the bad & the ugly are posted & everyone has different tastes and expectations for their vacation, whether its the first or the annual trip.

I hold RobS56 in high regard for his information, accuracy and tempered enthusiasm for Sian Ka'an. His reviews, information on the Akumal forum and resort pictures do give a well informed overview of what to expect.

While this resort is 1 of 4 at GBP, they are contunially looking for feedback from guests on where they are meeting the mark and where improvements can be considered. With this resort only being opened for several months, it is not obvious by the quality of the service and attention to detail that is it so new.

While our package with Transat included unlimited ala cartes, we ate at the SK gourmet, Alux, the Miakado at Coba and Gran Tortuga at Tulum. While all were exceptional, we were absolutly facinated with the quality of the food and the presentation at Alux! If you pass on the Portobello mushroom soup, you may have missed the best the Sian Ka'an has to offer! The buffet featured many selections we've never seen in our travels before at an AI resort. Sushi & caviar at a buffet??! The evening pastas were excellent and the wide variety of desserts made it difficult to walk past. We were so fortunate to have Wilberth as our waiter during our eveinings at the buffet. His smile charmed our girls & he was very engaging. We hope to see him there on our next visit!

Rooms:
We requested 2 penthouse suites along with our ala carte requests when we emailed Claudia 1 week prior to our departure. A quick reply confirmed our reservations, with a "we will do our best" to meet the room requests. What an excellent ambassador for this resort! We got exactly what we had requested! Villa 16, with a suite at the back of the building & our girls on the same floor facing to pool. The rooms are as RobS56 describes, however we did not have the slliding dividers as some villas have. The room darkening blinds added have been a great addition for those not waking with the sun! We enjoyed our penthouse deck & whirlpool tub immensely! After a day at the beach, we lounged with a bottle of wine from Daimon, the mini fridge attendant & took a soak in the tub. The only recommendation I can see making is that more privacy between rooftops would be a bonus. We hung beach towels for a bit more privacy, but still felt we were too close to our neighbours during a late night soak taking in the stars.

Played the Robert Trent Jones II championship course mid way through the week. This is a challenging but fair course. If your game is bomb & gouge, there's no bailing out of trouble left or right on most holes. You can easily overclub off the tee and on approaches. Played with an "avid" golfer who lost about 20 balls during the round. Play conservatively & you can score on this course! Early morning rounds before 6:40 are $65. 6:40 to 1:40 are $80, 1:40 to 3:00 are $65 then $55 twilight. Didn't rent clubs so can't comment on the rentals... but they're rentals... Beverage cart offers complimentary non-alcoholic beverages and snacks. Beer are $3. Coolers on carts, so if you bring some from your room fridge, you can get ice from the beverage cart. But tip him!

We spent most days at the Sian Ka'an exclusive beach. Bar service with service to the chair begins at 10:00, but trolleys start running at 7:00 to 6:00pm. Sian Ka'an guests have their own section of the Gran Tortuga breakfast & lunch buffet. All loungers are with palapyas, so shade is easy to find for those needing it. We were often the first on the beach by 8:30 each day. It didn't appear anyone was wandering looking for loungers, so no need to hurry your day. Relax & enjoy!

With full access to the other resorts, we did spend some time wandering about in the evenings. Met many new friends at the Daquarie Lounge at the Akumal Premier lobby bar. Felix Scholocate and Vanessa along with many others made the stay most enjoyable, particularly for the private function organized by ThurmanhofF and Damionsmum. What an event!

We traveled with 2 17 yr old girls. They didn't take long to make friends with Pedro and the anamacion staff at the SK pool! There were many young families and it did appear to have an odd mix with numerous older couples mixing at the pool with the families. If this resort continues to draw this wide assortment of guests, it may be worth designating a family and adults only pool, as it seemed some guests couldn't find the quiet they were seeking.

We have traveled to Mayan Riveria, DR, Cuba in the past. We have not experienced such consistent friendlyness by all SK staff we interacted with. Desk staff, bellhops, servers and Vanessa at Guest Services were fantastic! We look forward to a next return visit to Sian Ka'an!!

Room Tip: An outide room on the back of the resort will get you the most privacy. Villa 15 to 26 recommended.

We just got back from a two-week stay at the Sian Kaan in the Mayan Riviera where we enjoyed one of the best golf vacations we’ve ever been on. From the moment we arrived at this elegant, intimate resort til the last cocktail imbibed in the sun-drenched lobby waiting for our return transport to the airport, we grinned from ear to ear. The service was impeccable, the food delicious and variant and our room, equipped with a Jacuzzi spa on our top floor terrace, was immaculate and beautifully decorated. The daily maid service was not only consistently timed but also thorough, and the towel-sculpted animals were delightful to find on the bed every day.
At the Mayan Riviera golf club we were treated like royalty and a special mention must be made to Alfredo, one of the course attendants, who went above and beyond the call of duty to accommodate us, making certain our bags were waiting for us every morning and our tee times never delayed. Gracias, Alfredo.
Another special mention should be made about Lin-Yu. Lin-Yu was yet another positive example of this resorts attention to providing exceptional service to its guests and we sincerely hope that she receives the recognition she deserves for her efforts.
Without exception, this was a great vacation and we are already looking forward to our return next year.
Thank you Sian Kaan and Bahia Principe for a truly memorable time.
Ruth and Marcel
