Owner description: Lamanai was created at the beginning of the 90's as a promotional and sales project for Mexican Folk Art in the Caribbean, from Cancun to Belize. Pre Columbian Art was originally a popular creation that had a specific social function, which has perhaps disappeared through time, yet the desire of the artists that create it lingers on. Improvisation, personality, feeling, and incredible human ability are the qualities that characterize theseartists and artisans whose roots lay in Folk Art. Throughout the years, we have been able to assemble a good working team that has allowed us to expand the original concept, and seek new horizons. In 1999 a little gallery was opened on the Caribbean shoreline, in the beautiful bay of Akumal.

I just got back from my trip to Akumal and Galeria Lamanai was my last stop! I was looking for a little gift to bring back home and my husband told me he saw another shop for us to go to. So we went in I fell in love with this absolutely gorgeous cross!
I was going in between this shop and the store just down the pathway but after receiving wonderful service with better items I purchased a beautiful cross for home decor and now am keeping it for myself.
The owner, I forget her name, but she is a fabulous Italian lady knows how to select her merchandside and also offer great service.
If I ever return to Mexico I will definitely have to go back.
DON'T MISS OUT GREAT SHOP YOU MUST VISIT!

I was so surprised and delighted to find a shop that actually sold beautiful one of a kind interesting object d'art instead of the tacky cheap souvenir stuff sold everywhere else. I actually did my Christmas shopping for my friends and family and bought some beautiful wooden sculptures and a metal sculpture of an armadillo for myself. Everything wrapped and packed for travel, a discount given if you pay in cash but they do take credit cards. I would go back to Mexico just to go back to this store with an empty suitcase. It is not cheap but you get what you pay for and the uniqueness of the items sold makes it a treasure trove.

Loved this shop behind Lol-Ha restaurant. They feature one-of-a-kind jewelry, pottery, prints, masks and so much more. Reasonable prices. They accept credit cards, also give a cash discount. Absolutely fell in love with their jewelry! Definite must see!

Galeria Lamanai is a local gallery whose art represents many original artist's personal take on a wide variety of Mexican/Caribbean crafts. Contemporary & folk art, paintings, sculptures, local handcrafts, ceramics, wall hangings, tapestries, pottery, jewelry, etc. All very interesting. Galeria Lamanai is located close to the beach on Akumal Bay next to the Lol-Ha beach bar. Open 8am to 9pm, daily. Accepts Credit Cards.
