While it has been a number of years since we last visited, we have a newly acquired timeshare for the villas and have a return trip planned for march 2014. This will be near the end of the whale migration but, hoping to see some. We were very pleased with our stay in october 2005. The grounds were beautiful. The service was great. We were offered assitance with plans for any excursions we wanted to plan from booze cruises, tequila tours, atv tours, etc. From what I understand they are still offering the same conveniences and have also become semi-inclusive. This was not an option when we first stayed so on the first day we took the bus into town, had lunch on the marina and then headed to the grocery store/walmart to pick up provisions for our week long stay in our 2 bedroom, 2 bath, with full kitchen. We did eat at the restaurant for a few breakfasts and dinners. The food was very good. Otherwise we cooked in the room. It was very comfortable and relaxing. The themed dinner nights were fun. The pool area enjoyable from water volleyball, the pool slide, to relaxing on a lounge chair in the waterfalls. The resort is out of town which is one of the things I like about it. Private beach and not surrounded by a bunch of other resorts and people. It's an easy ride into town if you want to explore, try some different restaurants or shopping at malecon boardwalk. Looking forward to a return trip.

peaceful, seaside resort. very roomy. we were lucky stay at a friend's timeshare there.
there is a bus (dirt cheap!) to go to the beachtown of bucerias just half an hour away. Puerto Vallarta is only 1 hour away by bus also. there are loads of eating options there.
the resort restaurant is decent. but go out to he nearby towns. explore. eat there with the locals.
the beach itself has a long sandy area to walk. very relaxing.
there is a little store at the resort. very expensve. but you can buy your supplies at the "mega": grocery store a bus ride away.
people are very friendly. we did not attend the sales talk despite the possible freebies.
spa was great: massage was awesome!

My family and I used our timeshare exchange for this vacation that really wasn't a very exciting adventure as we hoped. The information I found on the website helped me to decide if this was the place for us. Pictures and info given can be deceiving. The website stated 16 miles from airport. the actual drive was almost an hour. Oneway fare $65.00 not including tip. Once we arrived the concierge was a little pushy to get us to go on a presentation. (we wanted to get to our room first). The website stated if you had a 2 bedroom you would receive on arrival robe, slippers, fruit basket and a bottle of wine. We had to insist before we received these items. we were told you received these things only if you had all-inclusive which we opt not to do. The manager person was very responsive to our requests. example, tv needed in second bedroom, dvd did not work in the living room. Most of the channels were in Spanish. (we do not speak Spanish). Since we opt not to do all-inclusive each time we left the resort to shop for food or gifts (just remember the cab fare) plus tips. The main shopping areas are near the airport. (remember the hour drive. Taking the bus was less expensive (ragged and uncomfortable). If you like solitude, this is the place for you. If you have small children or teens (BORING).

Room Tip: ROOM 207 not too bad

If you love the ocean, pretty quiet beautiful beaches, nice water, GREAT people and want to be away from the crowds this is the place. Although a little older it is kept beautifully and if you have any issue they are happy to fix it right away. The staff is outstanding, positive and helpful and I have been there 3 times and love it. It is pricey to take taxis if you do not rent a car but we also take the bus sometimes. You can have adventures and be away from the city and go there if you choose.
It does feel like home and is so tranquil and beautiful - the beach is far nicer than in PV or Nuevo.

Room Tip: Oceanfront are outstanding but hard to get unless way ahead but all rooms have a nice view of the wa...

I've been coming to PVR for 30 years and Rancho Banderas for the last 10. It's location cannot be beat, and while the villas have changed hands several times, the new management are working to keep the accommodations up. Alberto and Gustavo at the front desk are especially helpful. I am an owner and look forward to coming next year!

Room Tip: Always ask for villa directly on water. Some friends complain that surf is too loud, but I loved it...

Just came back after 5 days (April 19-23rd) at this this little piece of paradise. It was exactly what we needed to relax and unwind. It's a smaller resort which made us feel like we were very catered to by the staff. There was no loud parties or wild guests to intrude on others fun. Our one warning would be to consider if you are okay w/stairs. The resort is built into the side of a cliff, so going from place to place did require some stairs. We didn't mind and most of the main areas were on one level, but to get to the lower pools or beach you will need to head down some stairs which could be an issue for people w/knee problems.

We loved sitting on our balcony, listening to the waves, reading books and enjoying our time. (I think we had one of the best rooms, 209. And lucky enough to not have neighbors next door in 210, so it felt like we had the whole section.) I will agree w/other reviewers that some remodeling wouldn't hurt as some of the things were looking a little tired. Please don't change a thing on the balcony since that built in padded daybed was perfect for laying out in the sun or looking up at the stars.

We were very happy with the meals and drinks and felt it was worth the $59/per day/person charge. There isn't anywhere else very close to eat at, although we did go into Bucerias once (and wished we had just saved the bus fare and gone to Peppers.) Plus, the beach right outside was about 3 miles, and perfect for walking off the yummy all-inclusive meals.Such a clean beach and warm water. The palapas were also perfect for relaxing on the beach.

All of the staff was friendly & helpful. We booked a Marietta Islands tour through the concierge w/Pegaso. It was fun, although took 7hrs, so not sure it was worth it on such a short vacation. I wish we could've have gone straight out instead of having to leave from Nuevo.

Room Tip: 209 & 210 will definitely be my preference when we go back. It's on the upper edge at the en...

I visited Rancho Banderas between March 31st, and April 7th., 2013. I opted for the straight rental, rather than the "Semi-All-Inclusive" option. Firstly, I will say that the unit does need to have some updates. The furniture is getting tattered, the TV's are all tube type, non HD models (not that was using them anyway!) and the appliances are bottom of the line and old. That said, I'd go back in a minute! The staff are friendly, the pools are squeaky clean, and everything was easily accessible. I did eat at the restaurant several time and just paid the bill as I went. The food was very satisfactory but, considering I was one of only about 20 guests there at the time, the service needed to be a bit quicker. What they lacked in speed though, they made up for in friendliness. This section of the Nayarit coastline, near Punta de Mita, is among the most beautiful beaches I've ever seen, and I've seen a lot! Previously, only having been to Puerto Vallarta in this area, I wasn't impressed with the water or the beaches. This place, however, is amazing! Very little of the party crowd so, perfect for newlyweds or families. You can drive into Puerto Vallarta in 35 minutes to an hour (depending on the time of day and traffic). Sayulita is a 15 minute drive and is great for eating, shopping, and surfing. Watch your speed and road manners while driving as the local police like to target "rich" tourists! I was regularly passed by locals doing 20 to 30km over the speed limit, yet they were never pulled over, and I saw several tourists getting tickets for doing the same thing. What can I say, it's Mexico! Overall though, I couldn't be happier with my holiday! I'll be back!!! :)
