“Disappointing for a Four Seasons”
Reviewed June 2, 2013

We (2 adults and 3 children) stayed in a suite with an inter-connecting room for 7 days in December. We had stayed in the property as a couple when it first opened and the resort of Punta Mita was not developed. The location is very pretty but the we were disappointed with the service and food. In 2012 we had over 30 hotel nights in Four Seasons hotels so are very familiar with the quality and service expectations. We found the service very frenddly but not able to anticipate expectations or go beyond or even meet the obvious.

First of all, upon arrival we were practically hijacked to upgrade our room from a suite to a villa (for twice the price) right when we entered the reception. It was a strong sell and we almost did it but at last minute realised that it was not worth it. We found out later that the front desk personnel is encouraged to up sell and given incentives for doing so- it was not a pleasant start.

Our rooms were enormous. They were very comfortable and to the standards we expected from The Four Seasons. We had a small plunge pool and nice view of the gardens. The breakfast in the main restaurant was fine for the first few days but overall quality of food and drinks (smoothies) were disappointing. However, over the week as more of the time-share residents arrived for the holidays service became even worse. Large round banquet tables were set up in the restaurant which was so tacky. Many of the residents knew each other as well as staff members-- so for those on holidays who were not regulars, the experience was one where you felt a bit on the outside. Breakfast was noisy and ungracious with guests appearing in gym clothes, baseball caps and overall showing very little elegance. We had not been to a North American Four Seasons in awhile and were surprised that the food and atmosphere was different than those in Morocco and Egypt.

The beach was very nice. If you are smart, you can reserve beach chairs for the entire duration of your holiday so good to do this your first day- we found out only when the resort started to get really busy. The hotel does not really encourage reservations outside of the property but we found the food better at the little places in Punta Mita. It is also fun to rent a golf cart which allows you to go to other hotels in Punta Mita and is a good way to spend some time.

I had a mediocre pedicure in the spa. The gym is very large and well-equipped. There is a very good kids activities room with lots of games both electronic and other. The surfing lessons were excellent and good for children and adults.

Overall we would not return to the property and the service is friendly but amateur as we found the resort manager.

Dear Hotelie1,

We apologize that we disappointed during your stay with us back in December. It sounds like we did not provide our usual FS Punta Mita experience and you left feeling cheated. I also would like the opportunity of speaking to you directly to understand how we turn your perception around and make you a fan of this Paradise for life. I look forward to geting to know you better and getting you to sip on a Margarita down here in Paradise in the near future.

Warm regards,

Jose Adames, Resort Manager

This resort is showing some wear and tear, which is fine, but it should be priced accordingly. Not only is it tremendously overpriced for what it is, but the original architecture and design is uninspired and dull. If priced at $299 per night, we would have been satisfied with what the resort offers. But at $700+ per night, this place is highway robbery. For a side of bacon $10!! For scambled eggs $30!! Do you want to add juice and coffee? For one person, you spend $50 for scrambled eggs, bacon, coffee and juice! Insanity. Why not just go to Hawaii? Where it is prettier and less expensive?

You could stay in Tokyo London or Paris at the finest hotels in the world for less money. The craftsmenship and construction is cheap and typical Mexican style. The stucco is crumbling. Large grout lines in the bathrooms, sloppy paint on the ceiling fixtures. The chaise lounge chairs on the beach are cheap plastic, like the kind you might find at a cheap motel in Florida. We expected some designer Chaise Lounge for $700 a night, not a worn out plastic and vinyl Target looking beach chair.

I am amazed at the number of good reviews, and even our friends all say how awesome it is. The only thing I can think is that they are psychologically tricked by the high prices, and the power of suggestion in paying such high prices is to expect high quality, and premium experience.

The beach around the hotel is not very nice, and hard to swim in. Many rocks. Steep beaches with strong under tow.

We have been to the resort 3x in the past two years, I find it hard to vacation or book an event anywhere else when the Four seasons Punta Mita is within reach. There are settings as beautiful around the world but the service and hospitality here are exceptional!

My mom and I loved our stay at the Four Seasons Punta Mita. My favorite part was the stunning sunset views from the infinity pool. The service at the beach and pool areas was fantastic, and we loved our ocean front room. The patio was situated just behind the cliff so it felt very private. Our only complaint with the service is sometimes they wouldn't restock our room with all of the necessities (water bottles, kleenex, etc.), so it was slightly annoying to have to call. However, I moved up my arrival by a day two days before we came (to avoid a snow storm in NY), and they were very accommodating of this change.

We went in February, and it was very windy a few days, so we couldn't enjoy the beach area every day. If you're looking for perfect weather every day of your trip, I'd advise going later in the season. However, on those days we retreated to the adults only pool (I'm 24), to both escape the screaming children at the main infinity pool and the too-windy beach. We ended up loving the tranquility of the adults only pool and they serve sushi there, which is a nice variety from the other resort lunch food. Even though the adults only pool is set back from the ocean, I highly recommend checking it out.

The food at this resort is good (and they will go out of their way to make you anything you want), but it's not fantastic. Hard to pinpoint the problem exactly, but the quality was just slightly lacking. We also recently stayed at the One&Only Palmilla in Cabo and were much more impressed with the food at the resort.

Overall though, I will definitely be returning to the Four Seasons Punta Mita. I'd advise couples that this is a family-oriented resort, and you can avoid the kids there, but if you don't want to have to try, look elsewhere or go when kids are in school.

Room Tip: Ocean front rooms are worth the extra price if you like spending time on your private patio.

This place was amazing. The lobby is incredible, the weather is perfect, our rooms while described as average on this site elsewhere were great by our standards. The infinity pool is heated and has a view to die for. The beach is dramatic. The golf is absolutely great--two of the better courses I have played in the Caribbean/Mexico. If you're looking for a great place on the beach to lounge around and play golf, look no further. Food was great, but I won't lie--we had an excellent room rate but all of our meals and drinks were quite pricey ($88 for a breakfast for 2).

Room Tip: Ocean view but don't need ocean front.

We have now stayed at this resort three times as a family for vacation and just love it! The resort is very family friendly is you have children and the rooms are well appointed and clean. The service there is top notch - you will not find better service anywhere. The staff is all wonderful it there is a great spa there. Also, the two nearby 18 hole golf courses are just breathtaking by the ocean, but not cheap. Highly recommend this hotel for a tropical family vacation to relax and unwind.

4 night stay with a group of about 130. Everything regarding our group activities including dinner, dances and excursions went above and beyond expectations! Fabulous place, the pools were awesome, from the main pool overlooking the ocean, to the adult only pools and the lazy river for a lovely relaxing float. Staff was friendly and service excellent. Beautiful resort. My only complaint was our room had no view whatsoever, which did keep us from really enjoying the room and deck, but on the flipside it did get us out enjoying the rest of the resort more.

Room Tip: If you want total privacy from your room ask for a garden view cause all you see is a wall of palm t...
