“Great service, beautiful location”
Reviewed March 17, 2013

We would definitely return to this resort. The service is amazing. Starting at check-in, they make sure that you have everything that you need. You have a personal butler who responds immediately to being paged. He offered to unpack us (!!) and brought us fabulous coffee every morning. At the beach and beautiful pools, they actually run to bring you multiple towels to layout on your chair before you sit down. While laying in the sun, they bring you water bottles on ice (free), and then if you want, you can order food and drinks. The beach is beautiful although it is rocky, so it's not the best swimming beach. There are lots of pools and a great hot tub with a perfect view. The grounds are extremely well-maintained. The rooms are very nice with lovely patios and large bathrooms (note we were on the 2nd floor). Keep in mind an "ocean view" isn't a full ocean view, but it's still a beautiful view. The food is good, especially if you stick to Mexican (you are in Mexico), although there are some great local restaurants that are definitely worth going to. It's also a good location for surfing, diving etc and only an hour or so from Puerto Vallarta.

We adored the St Regis. Smart yet relaxed. Very, very beautiful - beaches, sunsets, wildlife, etc. Great food at the Sea Breeze and Carolina restaurants - particularly curried shrimp and the rib eye. The hotel seemed really quiet though it was full. THE friendliest staff ...

Most has been said before so I will change the subject..

There is a great little running trail at the end of the Punta Mita drive. In total about 5.25 miles out and back. Nice and hilly - and the heat makes it more of a challenge. I ran it three days and managed to get my time down to 38 mins 30 secs. Anyone care to take the challenge and report back the new record? :-)

Will definitely be back to try again.

This is the best service level and attention to detail I have ever experienced in my global travels. It started with the GM introducing himself to us on his first day, all the way to the cleaning staff leaving special items for our young children. One example of this attention to personal service involves my youngest daughter getting sick on one of our last days. The personal butler reached out to a local doctor and had him come directly to our room to care for our daughter. It enabled us to catch our flight home and ensured she could travel in comfort.

How often do you receive this level of personal service? Not often in my view, so it was quite memorable.

The facilities are also top notch. This is unlike your sterile high-rise hotel you often find at most beach resorts. You feel like you are staying on someone's large estate. It is very quiet and peaceful.

There are 3 pools so none of them ever feels crowded nor are you jockeying to get pool chairs. There is plenty of room to stretch out. The "children's club" was also a blessing. Our daughters spent several hours with the "teachers" who did arts & crafts and other entertaining things with the kids while we relaxed by the pool.

We also really enjoyed their morning coffee service. Each morning they delivered coffee to our rooms and set it up for us. A really nice touch.

All in all it was a fantastic experience and I would highly recommend the St. Regis Punta Mita to either families with children, or couples looking for a relaxing get-away.

Room Tip: Ask for an "upgrade" to get an ocean view room if you want "quiet". If the dista...

This resort is great for families with young children! I would not say that it is 'posh' (we just came back from the Viceroy in Anguilla which I thought was very 'posh'), but it is great for families - not stuffy, very safe, excellent food, kid friendly, excellent service and very easy to get to from Denver which is where we live.

Let's just start off by saying that most of our family vacations are not so relaxing since we have two very young children (a 1yr old and 5 yr old). Although, we just came back from 6 days at this resort and it was very, very relaxing! For the first time in a long time, we don't feel like we need a vacation after having our vacation.

First of all, this resort is fantastic because it caters very well to both families with children and adults without children. There is a pool/bar/restaurant area for families with children and there is a separate area for adults that don't want to be bothered by children. This is very nice because you don't have to constantly wonder if your children are bothering the adults that don't have kids.

Kids Club - The kids club at this property is fantastic and it is FREE! For most St Regis properties, you will spend north of $50 per activity for your child. The kids club has outside activities for the kids everyday from 9AM - 1PM. The childcare workers were fantastic and very attentive to the children. Also, they had different, creative activities every day.

Transportation - We had the St Regis pick us up at the airport so we did not have a car during our stay. It was an easy 45 minute drive and they provided carseats for both of my kids (one less thing to bring on the vacation). We did not need a car during our stay. You can take a taxi for about $10 each way anywhere you want to go.

Safety - Honestly, I wasn't sure that I wanted to take my kids to Mexico with all of the media hype about the safety issues. This resort is very, very secure and safe. There was not a moment where I felt unsafe at all. There are multiple gates/check points to even get into the road that gets to the property.

Food - You should try and get the complimentary breakfast buffet with your room if possible (that is a deal going on right now). This will save you about $80 per day. We ate at both the restaurants in the hotel and the ones outside. The food was good at both Las Mariettas and Sea Breeze. We did not eat at the high end restaurant because we had the kids with us. Also, we went to Sufi's and loved it. Also, we really loved Casa Theresa. Both of these are a must and are a very short (5 minute) cab ride. One thing to note - if you are not okay paying $30 - $40 per entree per meal, then this might not be the right resort for you. Even the nice restaurants outside of the hotel are this price.

Beach - The beach was not great. It was very rocky in front of the resort. If you are really into the beach on your vacation, then this might not be the right resort for you.

Service - The service at this resort was spectacular! They bent over backwards to accommodate our family.

Things they need to work on - The room service food was not great (although I have never really been anywhere that had great food on the room service menu). Also, many of the high-chairs at the resort are broken (straps that keep children from standing up in the seat are broken). It is impossible to relax during a meal if you think your toddler will fall out of the seat.

This is truly one of the better resort rooms in Mexico. Second stay here, both times in the junior suite which offers the amazing outdoor shower, gorgeous bathroom and some nice extra space with a sunken living room. Worth a few extra pesos for the suite but as far as I can tell, they are all ground floor rooms. Pools are plentiful, chairs readily available, and the beach makes an even better spot for morning sun. Although the decor and food at Carolina's is top notch, skip it -- over priced and awfully quiet. It has a super sexy bar but a dimmer might add some mystique to the room. Tried to arrange a few activities and services with the butlers -- who all tried very hard -- but never seemed to coordinate with each other (everything was passed back and forth and seldom had follow-up). Small problems in the grand scheme... Take the hotel's loaner bicycles into town (1.25 miles) for a waterfront lunch at Si Senor or a 100 p taxi for dinner. Quaint little town and had a great meal at Blue Shrimp at fraction of the hotel rate, and more lively crowd.

Room Tip: Pay for the suite. Outdoor shower alone is worth it.

My wife and I had the opportunity to visit St. Regis Punta Mita this year and we were very happy to have the opportunity. We were greeted upon arrival and the front desk agent went over reservation confirmation and room key pass off while we were sitting over looking the property that led down to the beach. I lover this approach which we found very personal and warm. We had a Deluxe King room which was very spacious (over 600 square feet) with views of the ocean and grounds. This is their starting room category so it was more than enough for the two of us.It was a 5 point bathroom (separate shower, tub double vanities etc.) with an additional nice touch; along with the indoor shower, it had an outside one as well. The grounds are very well maintained and the service we experienced; from the servers at Las Marietas (Breakfast & Lunch), Sea Breeze Restaurant, by the pool and the beach were wonderful, very charming and gave us so much insight on Punta Mita and the hotel.

NOTES:
The indoor shower was not enclosed and was supposed to drain to one corner away from the door leading into the bathroom unfortunately, it did not drain as well so we would have water on the bathroom floor. The Butler service, although a nice amenity and good selling point was inconsistent. One example, we called to have a pair of shoes shined and hit the "butler service button" on the phone. No one answered and so we assumed they were being paged. After 20 minutes, a housekeeper came to refresh our room and so we asked her if she could request the service. In the end, we did not know if we should leave the room or if the request was received so we refrained from using the butler service for the remainder of the trip.

Unfortunately, Carolina, their signature restaurant was not open during our stay which we were told was due to low occupancy so the only dinner option was Sea Breeze or room service. Now, we were only at the resort for a few days so we were fine. If you are going to stay for a number of days this will be inconvenient. We left St. Regis to stay at Resort close by and over the next few days saw a number of guests who were staying at St. Regis come up to dine at the restaurants at the hotel we were now residing.

Sufi Restaurant: The resort is located in a gated community which includes, golf, hotels and timeshares.Since Carolina was closed we asked concierge for a recommendation which was Sufi. It is a 10 minute walk adjacent to the golf course or you can request a taxi. It overlooks the ocean and had wonderful service and cuisine. It is a must if you want to eat offsite one night! (Attached a picture from our table.)

Transfers from the airport: The service utilized by the hotels will run approximately $100.00 one way and since it is a gated community you will need to use their service. The other options are to rent a car or use the public transportation.

Overall, we would go back and recommend this Resort for couples and corporations who wanted to offer it as an incentive trip.

Room Tip: Request a room on the second floor, much better views of the ocean. The lowere rooms have gardn view...

Love this hotel, especially the large lovely rooms! This hotel just gets better...they seem to keep improving. The breakfast area was moved to the center restaurant located near the beach is the center of the hotel..just brilliant and should of always been there. The buffet breakfast was very very good. The staff never hurried you and were extremely attentive but not annoying. The pool and beach staff were friendly, engaging and helpful Sometimes the service was slow, possibly due to not enough staff for the amount of guests. There are multiple pools. Some you can hideaway at, some to socialize, one long enough to do my laps, and so on. The beach is great. Although the water is not warm, there is definitely a swimming beach and snorkeling. This trip we did not have dinner on site, so I cannot comment on the dining. I will definitely go back!

Room Tip: get the neck massage on the beach...really nice.
