Overall this is a wonderful hotel and the staff is very good. The pool on the roof is very relaxing and is a great place to have breakfast and relax. The beach out front is small and not ideal for swimming, its more of a paddle board surfer beach. The room layout is great for a group, kitchen is new and everything was very clean. Had some trouble getting hot water, not the end of the world. Not that far from Sayulita so that is a nice day trip. Overall very good, the hotel could update some areas as you can see it is starting to get old. On area that was under standards was the sps. Not that good, outside of that an excellent stay.

We came here with my son and his friend for a little surf trip. When we got here they automatically upgraded us for free to a bigger unit so that the boys didn't have to share a queen bed. The rooms are big, beautiful, and clean. Don't leave the doors open though. It is a tropical area and you WILL let bugs in. The location is perfect right on El Anclote beach for surfing, SUP, and proximity to all shops and restaurants. Those staying at St Regis/Four Seasons drive/cab over to use this beach and eat. Jose and Horatio got us anything we needed. Coffee maker for room? Right away! Late checkout without even asking! Absolutely! Adolpho by the beach/pool took great care of us. He brought me a Pina Colada, on the house, my first day there. I must have looked thirsty! We almost booked the Four Seasons. I'm so glad I didn't. This place felt like home, but better! Oh, rooftop bar/ pool is beautiful!

Room Tip: Bring earplugs. Not the hotels fault, but they were building palapas next door to us. Can be noisy...

My friends stayed here while we were anchored just off the beach in our sailboat. The rooms we gorgeous. The view amazing. The rooftop pool is very nice. They booked through Orbitz and got a good deal on a flight and room combo.

The staff and manager were also very nice and super helpful. I'd definitely recommend others stay here.

We had an upper floor room and it was fantastic. Modern, spacious, and great views. Laundry ensuite was a bonus. Cooked a bit and kitchen had all we needed. Room was definately best part of stay.

Area was a pleasant surprise. Much less developed than expected and one can walk gorgeous undeveloped beaches for kms.

Staff at beach were incredibly willing to please. Didnt goto rooftop kids not allowed. Meant for kids safety having an infinity pool with 4 story drop. Wasnt that big of a deal as days are spent beachside. Really is best suited for those wanting to sup and surf and is ideal for both. Swimming fine but better beaches elsewhere.

Downsides would be the steep rental rates for sup's and fares if cabs booked from front desk. Try your luck striking a deal for board rental throughout your stay and do it yourself and dont shy away from excellent local bus, even to and from airport. Financial strain on owners and developers in the region is palpable and tarnished stay somewhat.

If you have a decent budget and want to sup and surf it would be hard to beat this hotel and area.

I recently helped to organize a fitness retreat for 19 people to Hotel Cinco. Hotel Cinco is comprised of a total of 12, 2 or 3 bedroom suites, equipped with full kitchens (and laundry) complete with balconies overlooking the beach. All of the suites were comtemporary, super clean, spacious, beautifully decorated and well appointed. The hotel management and staff were fantastic and very patient with me on the lead up to the trip as we had many last minute additions and cancellations. Once we arrived they made it clear that they would do whatever it took to make our trip enjoyable. The hotel food was great and there is a choice of casual poolside fare or fine dining with a view of the beach. Hotel Cinco hooked us up with every good restaurant in town. The resort owner made himself known and provided me with his contact information and responded to all of my inquiries personally. Hotel Cinco's beach was a great place to paddle board and swim, and there was an ideal location on the beach just south of the hotel property for our Trainer's Boot Camp Style workout. The roof deck provided an amazing space for yoga. There beach offers a gentle surf break perfect for the surfing novice. Hotel Cinco provided us with master surf instructor second to NONE!!!!! Be sure to ask for Black Bear whether you are a surfing pro or novice. The suite set up can be tricky for groups because there is only one beachside room and the other(s) are on the street side and definetly less desirable. Just something to think about before you go so there won't be any hard feelings when you get there.

Room Tip: HIgher floors more desirable.

My wife and I are early 30's from Vancouver, B.C. We went to Punta Mita in late January 2012 and stayed at the Hotel Cinco for 10 nights; our experience was nothing short of spectacular. We travel extensively all over the world and have stayed in a lot of incredible boutique hotels, and Hotel Cinco is right there with the best of them. The rooms are large, very well appointed, and they all face the ocean and the El Ancote surf-break. The beds are very comfortable, and falling asleep with the surf rolling outside is magic.

The staff at Hotel Cinco were incredible and anticipated our every need. The GM, Horatio, is an absolute pro and all around good guy. The roof-top bar and infinitely pool is a nice touch; the food is quite good and drinks are cold.

We went primarily to surf. The break in front of the hotels is generally on the small side (though I hear it can get back), but it's a great beginner wave and when it pushes a little you can get really long rides. When that break isn't working, hire a boat to take you tool "The Cove" or "La Lancha" surf breaks (cost about $25 PP round trip).

Punta Mita is a pretty small town and if you are looking for clubs or nightlife, this isn't your place. There are a number of good restaurants along the strip. but skip the expensive Italian restaurant up the hill away. It's over priced, the food is pretty average, and the wines mark-ups are criminal.

Overall a great experience at Hotel Cinco and we can't wait to go back next year!

Developed a nasty rash after a couple of days and after searching the internet, learned the hard way about bedbugs. And sure enough, tell-tale signs of bed bugs in our room. The hotel didn't seem too concerned when we complained.
