NIGHTMARE AT The Royal Suites Punta Mita by Palladium, Puerto Vallarta
The resort, which boasts all inclusive offering, is nothing but a mediocre attempt to get to your wallet. Even then, they fail miserably.

COOKIE CUTTER HOTEL SERVICE AT BEST!
COMPLETE NEGLIGENCE AT WORST!
IT STARTS WITH HOTEL MANAGEMENT AND REFLECTS ON THE STAFF!
REPUGNANT TREATMENT!!!

After traveling this world for more than 35 years, staying at most acclaimed hotels, like the Regent in Hong Kong, Shilla in Seoul, Four seasons in Bangkok, Cesar park in Buenos Ares, Little Palm Island in the Keys, El Nido in Pallawan, Taj in Mumbai, etc., etc., I have never had the kind of experience dished out by clearly under qualified and under motivated people. And, this refers to the management. Imagine the people they lead.

Mr. Fraguas, General Manager, sent me a standard apologetic form letter to justify his staff’s actions.

My -our- experience starts at the reservation level. I requested an ocean view room, which every brochure says they have. These, we come to learn later, are non existent. This is a statement by the Hotel General Manager, who, as I will explain later, justified his staff’s accusation of guest’s theft of an iron. An iron!!! Imagine.

We, during our stay tried to have a good attitude and fun for the couple of days we were going to enjoy in this publicized as “idyllic” location. The management of the Hotel was absent, unresponsive, procedural, indifferent and inefficient. When a guest dares to request anything or when approached with something different, management only limited themselves to citing the procedures and regulations. Pitiful and sad.

After consulted and approached about their lack of professionalism and tact, management continued to cite procedures. Even the General Manager, Mr Fraguas, did not return calls. Absurd and pathetic.

Avoid this Hotel at all costs, it is over advertised, exaggeratedly so.

I was accused upon check out, in the lobby of the hotel, of stealing an iron.
While it was clearly evident to the people there that it was a complete impossibility because it would not have fit in my luggage. Never mind that they had had control of my luggage without keys for many hours, containing computer, cameras, etc. with a value exceeding 20 times the value of an iron, they cited procedure and wanted to see my luggage. I have never been treated in this manner anywhere in the world.

The unresponsive, indifferent and repugnant treatment received at The Royal Suites Punta Mita by Palladium, is completely unprecedented in my many years of international travel.

AVOID THIS HOTEL AT ALL COSTS!!!
For a copy of my letter (in Spanish) to the unresponsive The Royal Suites Punta Mita by Palladium General Manager, Mr. Fraguas, please write to (--). I will be pleased to send you a copy.

We read all the reviews before we got down there, and were a bit nervous about the Palladium side of the resort. We upgraded upon check-in to the Royal Suites. We were given a room in the building closest to the pool/beach, with a partial ocean view. It was nice, but the room was average. Clean, but average.
The restaurant on the Royal Suites side was incredible. The food was gourmet, and the service was great. We tried the a-la-care restaurants, and they were average at best. They need to learn about embiance in Mexico......TURN DOWN THE LIGHTS!
The pool at the Royal Suites was clean and very warm.....almost like getting into a hot tub.....but that was nice for swimming at night. No real pool hours either, so can swim well past midnight and no one will bother you.......we found that out.
We upgraded again......after 3 nights.....to the Master Suite, top floor, overlooking the pool, with a full ocean view. It was very nice!!! Hot tub on the huge deck. It was worth the upgrade. The room had some gajang to it, for sure.
It was nice being away from the hustle and bustle of PV, as we've both been there several times. You can walk into the jungle next door to the Royal Suites, and really feel detached.
All in all, it was a nice place to stay. A few glitches in service, but it's Mexico, and things run a bit differently down there. Eg. - Forgetting about our luggage in the lobby....so i went down and just got it myself; we called in for room service.....and they called back an hour later saying that breakfast is over.....nice.
Oh ya.....speak spanish (if possible), and you'll basically get anything you want.
Asta luego !
Goog Gajang for your buck and you just might see, and hear, dolphins!

Found this place while surfing on the net . Photos looked amazing , and it was away from over commercialised Peurto Vallarta . After reading about the place , I noticed you could upgrade to the new "royal suites" part of the resort for only a couple of hundred dollars for the 8days we were going . "UPGRADE" - DO IT !!!! This is why ... We got there at 7am , got off the bus , stood in line with 80 other people , took forever and the rooms wernt ready till 3pm. They realised we were booked in the "royal suites" , they apologised and escorted us to our own private part of the resort with its own check in lobby and very upmarket lounge area , feeling pretty much like royalty already , they quickly checked us in , whisked our bags away to our room and we were allowed to go straight to our room . No 3pm wait , no fuss .. The room was awesome !! Huge , all lovely marble floors and bathroom .We had a huge jetted spa bath and a huge marble shower for 2 people . Satellite TV , minibar , own balcony ,air con and ceiling fans. Biggest bed Ive ever slept in , everything you could want . Not to mention the "PillowMenu" YES , you could order at no charge your own type of pillow ! , and they rush them up to you . We thought the room was cool enough , then we went for a walk to the royal suites Private swimming pools , god , so nice looking straight out to the ocean , across your own private beach , and sitting next to the pools was our own private 4 star restaurant , that would cook anything anytime , (they had wonderful steak) .. Yup , all exclusively for the royal guests only ! So , nice , no screaming kids , no drunk idots , no stupid summer break teens .. Just peace , sun , and anything you could want .. ALL drinks and food included , the food was AMAZING , and top quality .. The other side wernt allowed in their pool after 8pm either !! We swam till 1am , it was awesome .. Watched whales frolicking in the ocean while sitting on our balcony having room service breakfast , man it was luxury .. They have free movies to rent if you want also . At night they have a nightclub , and free shows , the 3 piece mariachi band was great .. They also had a health spa , we got an hour and half swedish massage .. OOOOoo SOooooooo good and it was cheap .. ALSO if you stay in the other side you can only go to the 4 restaurants and beach BBQ limited times , where as in the royal suites you get VIP treatment and unlimited access and you can reserve tables ..Anyway , I could rave all day , but if you want excellent value , and great service and want to relax in paradise , this place is well worth it , but in the ROYAL SUITES ... Upgrade you WILL NOT regret it . (PS - go on the 4 wheel motorbike tour in the sierra nevada's , youll love it ! )

This was our 2nd stay at the Royal Suites section and our 5th visit to the Palladium Vallarta Resort. We truly enjoyed the relaxation, the quietness, and the luxury reserved for adults only. You are treated like Royalty at the Royal Suites.

The Royal Suites exclusive services include: butler service, bathrobe & slippers, free room service, private restaurant (Punta de Mita), Royal lobby/bar (La Bahia) with 2 free internet computers, 2 pools, private beach, pool bar with waiter service, Balinese beds on the beach, wireless internet in your room, hydro-massage bathtub, mini bar stocked daily, advanced reservations for a la carte restaurants, plus access to everything on the Palladium side.

FOOD: The food was outstanding, the best we have ever had at an all-inclusive and the waiter service was marvellous. Never had a bad meal in 2 weeks. The Punta de Mita restaurant is opened from 7 am to 10 pm daily. Lunch menu changes daily, plus a daily special, even a pan fry at your table. Menu selection items for lunch are: mahi mahi, filet mignon, rib eye steak, satay chicken, pizzas, club house sandwich, shrimp, etc. Dinner menu selection items are: bbq ribs, rib eye steak, grilled t-bone, shrimp burritos, pizzas, chicken or beef fajitas, salmon, lobster, a four course fondue menu and a nightly dinner special.
There are 3 al a carte restaurants: Viva Mexico, Portofino and Bambu - which you can reserve in advance.
We loved the food at the Bambu restaurant. The Palladium has brought in Sushi Master, Pedro Cheng, to train the chefs in the art of Japanese cuisine; he will be there until the end of January 2010. The sushi was fresh and delicious.
ROOMS: Spotlessly cleaned daily, nightly turn down service, huge spa tub, fridge stocked daily (water, pop, beer), flat-screen TV, in room safe, bathrobe and slippers. The maid service was excellent, plenty of water, face cloths and towels.
BEACH: Lifeguard on duty daily. Water sport center open daily from 9 am to 6 pm, you can use the kayaks, surf boards, boogie boards, snorkelling equipment and catamaran. Great waves for beginner or expert surfing and boogie boarding. Beach volleyball, soccer and bocce ball are just a few of the many entertainment programs that are offered daily on the beach.
POOLS: The Royal pools were warm, clean and had a breath-taking view of the ocean. We were lucky enough to catch sight of a few whales and dolphins. The waiter service on the beach and pool area was fantastic. Also guests can use the adult pool and the main pool on the Palladium side.
BARS: The lobby bar (La Bahia) is opened from 10 am to 10:30 pm and the poolside bar (Punta de Mita) is opened from 10 am to 1 pm. You also have access to the 6 bars on the Palladium side. The bartenders are friendly and helpful. Wonderful selection of bar drinks and the bartenders will gladly make any drink you ask for.
TIPS: We tipped in pesos and US dollars. Tip generously. The staff work very long hours and work hard to accommodate guests. Tips are very much appreciated by the staff.

The staff and management are amazing, very accommodating and hardworking professionals. There is always something new and improved from our previous visits. We would highly recommend this resort with no hesitation. Looking forward to our next vacation.

Just back from a week-long stay at the Royal Suites Punta Mita. We were at the Palladium Vallarta for a week last December. I am glad we booked the RS for this stay--it is a wonderful upgrade.

Check-in was a breeze. We were the only couple from our bus checking in. Very relaxing!

Wonderful room in building 5 (3rd floor) with beach views. Not a grand ocean view, but very peaceful to hear the ocean and the songbirds. Could see ocean and cliffs through trees.

Loved Punta Mita restaurant hands down. The view is spectacular there any time and the service is grand.

We love all of the other restaurants; especially Viva Mexico, next Portofino (Italian) and next Bambu (they have a sushi master training their chefs at this time). It is important that men keep in mind that they must wear pants to these restaurants. In the Punta Mita Restaurant on the RS side you do not need to worry about this.

The bars are great; especially the Hemingway (all top-shelf liquor). The lobby bar is fun but the drinks are really watered down or slapdash (not so much top-shelf liquor). In the morning they have a great cappuccino bar there.

The beach on the RS side is rocky, but the Palladium beach is good if you stay in the designated swimming areas. Be sure to check the map by the equipment booth on the beach. It outlines where to swim as well as where the rip tide and rocks are located. It is important to be cautious when swimming here. A lady we met on the first day was scraped up pretty badly and last year, I had a close call with some jagged rocks. Snorkeling in the buoys is okay but you can see as much marine life if not more in the salt water pool and tidal pools north of this beach.

The entertainment staff are exceptional. They work very hard and put on an amazing set. You will not be disappointed to see their shows. They come from all over the world. It is just outstanding!

The disco is pretty good. It gets a bit rowdy and it would be a bit nicer if there were two levels. Service is not as quick here, but if you sit at the bar, you will get served before everyone standing in line : )

Love the heated infinity pools and now refuse to go to resorts without them.

Went on the Eco Adventure to the Marietas Islands with Puerto Adventures (very professional company). Book online and save 15 %. Saw dolphins and whales 10 minutes out of port. The boat stopped each time we saw humpback whales from PV to Marietas (what a spectacular site!). Snorkeling at Marietas (quite calm) and saw several fish. I have never dove before, but if I were to scuba dive, this would be my choice for my first dive. The company is amazing providing wetsuits and a guide to lead you through the water. Unfortunately the last snorkeling tour had not been as professional and I was a little timid about going in at first. Everyone was helpful and put me at ease! (I did not get pushed off the swim platform this time : ))

Palladium is off of the beaten path a bit. 45 minutes or so from the airport. The benefit of this is a beach with no vendors (thank you) and a lot more tranquility, as well the water and sand are cleaner. If you are worried about the trek to PV for tours, see if you can get a pickup or drop-off in Nuevo Vallarta (only 20 minutes away). Once you are on the bus or in the taxi, you hardly realize the time has flown by. To me, it is well worth it to be a little ways away from the hustle and bustle of downtown. It is pretty central to Bucerias, La Cruz and Nuevo to the south and Punta Mita, Sayulita and San Pancho to the north.

Be sure to get quotes from your taxi driver before leaving. All prices are listed on a board and you can do a little negotiating. Often you will be taken in a spacious van rather than a puny Nissan.

Hands down we love the Palladium and all of the fine features that it offers. There are Palladiums in Mayan Riviera, Dominican, Jamaica and Spain (plus one set to open in Brazil in 2010). We are sold on the Palladium quality and features and intend to stay at Turquesa in Dominican Republic next year.

If you have any questions about the resort or the area, I am more than willing to try to answer your questions.

We didn't actually stay in the Royal Suites, we stayed in the main hotel, but it was great!
Our room was in building 1 -- it was PERFECT! Situated right between the adult-only pool and area (with a beach access, bar, etc) and the main pool and area (with a snack bar, bar, beach access, etc), our room was close to everything but was very quiet until later in the morning when both areas got busy.
The buffets were okay -- as good as any all-inclusive I've been to. The a la carte restaurants were AWESOME! "Viva Mexico" had an amazing view, wonderful waiters and GREAT food. "Bambu" (Oriental cuisine) was incredible -- fresh, made-to-order sushi made by a Japanese master who is currently teaching the hotel chefs. "Portofino", Mediterranean cuisine, wasn't our favourite, but it was still good. Every Saturday (weather permitting) there is a beach bbq which we missed, but it's supposed to be the best!
On the weekends the hotel is innundated with Mexican's and their children, so it's a bit more crowded, but the adult pool is monitored closely and is usually quiet, so the extra people don't matter too much.
Overall, a beautiful place to relax and enjoy yourself!
The hotel is about an hour by taxi from the town of Puerto Vallarta, 20 minutes by bus to the town of Bucerias and just a view minutes from the lovely beaches of Punta de Mita. If you're into checking out the towns, this hotel is a bit far away from things, but it's nice to be away from the hustle and bustle. The city bus is easy to navigate and cheap, just a long ride to things. Taxis are always available from the lobby but are more expensive.
The beach is a surfer's paradise -- kind of rocky at the shore in places, but still fun to frolic in. There is a man-made wading pool at one end of the beach, so there's always a safe and sandy place to paddle about in. Boogie boards are free to borrow and are fun in the waves!
The adult pool is an "infinity pool" -- the view is out to the ocean, never-ending.

My girlfriend and I were on the way to the Bahamas and our plane was overbooked. We took the free travel but still needed somewhere to go. We decided to go to the Royal Suites Punta Mita.

Overall the hotel was ok, but the food was a huge dissappointment.

The good:
- The Royal suites is Adult only
- Private pool and beach, very nice although the beach was basically unswimmable. There is a man-made pool toward the Palladium side and the beach over there is much better for swimming.
- Room was spacious, wireless internet worked pretty well.
-Spa was cheap
-Zoo on property.
-Hammock area with beautiful view.
-Didn't skimp on drinks.
-Service was good, nice to have butlers
- Beautiful scenary, grounds well kept.
-ability to make reservations at a-la-carte restaurants

The not so good:
- FOOD - terrible. We have stayed at many 4 and 5 star resorts and the food here was easily the worst we have experienced. We expected the food at the restaurant on the Royal side to be better, it was barely edible. We were hoping for the best at the a-la-carte restaurants but they were not good either. The buffets on the Palladium side were very mediocre.
-FOOD - basically the same menu every day with minor variations. Lobster costs $40 more.
-The Royal Suites is adults only, however sometimes there were kids and people from the Palladium side as identified by different colored bands. Not a snob, but we did pay extra to be on the Royal side. Unacceptable not to enforce.
-Upon entering room, electricity did not work and the glass door to the patio would not open.

Although there were positives to the resort, the poor quality of the food easily outweighed them.

Puerto Vallarta seems nice, but I would stay at a different hotel next time.
