Hotel Colonial is an absolute jewel in the heart of el centro near everything. The new terrace rooftop adds another dimension to an already outstanding place. Small, intimate, charming, and elegant. It's great!

Hotel Colonial in Alamos is simply paradise. Where to even begin? The courtyard bursting with sprays of bright blooming flowers, the private gardens complete with archways and paths, the roaring wood-fireplace in every room, the king-size beds with luxury sheets that call you back to stay a little longer, the hand-chosen antique doors and furniture, the roof-top terrace ready for star gazing or watching the sun rise, the home-made breakfast served in the ballroom with Sonora's best latte on the side... I could go on and on, and I have not even mentioned Kelley & Janet, the delightfully welcoming hosts who become fabulous friends!

Hotel Colonial is that rare blend of luxury within a home-away-from-home environment. Kelley and Janet do a wonderful job of providing for your every need while simultaneously enabling you to have a completely private & romantic stay. I had never been to Alamos prior to this visit, but now that I have stayed in Hotel Colonial, I can say that I will *absolutely* be back.

Not to be missed!

Room Tip: We had a chance to peek in a few of the rooms, and they are all beautiful! The Eastern corner room h...

Blown away first by the spectacular courtyard, next by the friendly American proprietors, next by the unique rooms decorated with European antiques, and finally by the full, delicious, included breakfasts.

The rooftop garden and courtyard were under construction while we stayed there; will definitely be back to check it out.

A block from the plaza, great food nearby, 15min walk to the Panteon, the best cappuccino in Mexico. Loved it.

The bed was fantastic -- some rooms are on the street though, so if you are sensitive to street noise, keep that in mind.

Time flies. It's nearly been a year since we stayed at the Colonial. We vowed to write a review about it, but of course never did, until now. But now we're planning our next trip back, so.......
If you're heading to Alamos, and even if you weren't, go and DEFINITELY STAY AT THE COLONIAL! It's a great hotel in a huge colonial hacienda right in the middle of town. It's clean, well priced, very well appointed, and it's run by an incredibly warm spirited woman who exiled out of New Orleans after Katrina. She brought all the warmth and happiness that New Orleans can be with her, and we just happened to be there during Mardi Gras, totally unplanned. Who would expect Mardi Gras in Mexico? But Janet had imported 1000s of bead necklaces and a Cajun chef and threw a party complete with a big costume parade that all the local gringos' dressed up for. We even got to roll through the little Mexican town on a flat bead with a bunch of dressed up folks, throwing beads to the amazed Mexican families lining the zocalo. It was incredible! Then we went back to the hotel to a BIG party with great food and music. It was an amazing time.
Even if you're not there for Mardi Gras, the Colonial is the place to stay in Alamos. We were there for a week and we checked out every other place in town. You can pay more, that's for sure!, but you won't get more than staying at the Colonial.
See you there!
