I just had the good fortune to visit Alamos, Sonora, Mexico and to stay at the Hacienda De Los Santos. I wanted to record my comments with you as I am sure it would benefit those looking for that perfect holiday and relaxation. It is the most gorgeous place I have ever been to. Having lived and worked in the Middle East for a long time, and since my work involved traveling, I have been around quite a bit of the world and got to stay at some exotic hotels, but nothing comes close to the Hacienda. It is just magical and when I was there I felt like I was as close to Heaven as I could get. If I was to rate the Hacienda, I would give it 'Six Stars' and I know that anyone who visits it once gets hooked and goes back again and again, me included. People from all over North America, Europe and even Russia are regular visitors. You can check out their website at www.haciendadelossantos.com which will give you an idea though nothing can do justice in describing this place unless it is seen first hand.

What a special place this is!!!!!!!!! From the minute you walk in you are transported to a different era, that of colonial Mexico at its best. The complex of colonial mansions, that make up the Hacienda, are all extrodinary with an absolute attention to detail rarely found in the finest hotels of the world. From the beautiful landscaping, swimming pools, antiques, and art... we were impressed. We had high expectations, based on the friends that have recommended we stay here, and we were not disappointed. The staff and service were first class and the meals we experienced were worth the trip in themselves. Alamos itself is a colonial time capsule, not ruined with bad development or tourist sideshows, the residents we met on this trip were truly gracious. We will be returning for the famous music festival after the first of the year. We also had a nice meal at the restaurant Chrisma...located a block from the Hacienda. Just can not say enough!!!!

The owner operators, Jim and Nancy Swickert and thier family, are outstanding hosts. They miss no detail. Thier staff is excellent as are thier five star meals. There is so much to do in this quaint colonial style town. And the hotel has activities to compliment anyone's fancy. We will definitely be back.

We travel to Alamos Mexico each year and always stay at the Hacienda de los Santos. It is a great facility, clean, beautiful rooms with very friendly people. A great location for private pilots since the Hotel caters to pilots and their aircraft.

The owners, Jim and Nancy make every effort to accomadate your needs- ranging from spa services to morning walks through the town. The town is a small cobble stone community with very friendly people. Not commercialized, one is never bothered by vendors or street salesmen. You never worry about your safety.

There are several sights near including the Copper Canyon and also river trips and bird watching.

We would strongly recommend the community and the Hacienda. It is a favorite place.

Oh my goodness! What can we say, except that we were beyond spoiled during our June get-away to the beautiful, colonial village of Alamos, Mexico. We have been blessed to have stayed in many wonderful places around the world, but no place could compare to the time spent at Hacienda de los Santos! It was pure magic from beginning to end. We had planned to go further south, but instead changed our plans and stayed three weeks at this hotel!!! There are not many romantic places one can travel with children (especially three young ones) but the staff accommodated our every desire and wish at the newest HDLS property Casa Tacubaya. With a private swimming pool and lush gardens and cuisine that positively delighted us all, there was no wish that did not come true there!!! We mingled with the other guests and walked and toured the town together a few times, and they were equally enchanted by our experience. The town is steeped and rich in history, and reflects a colonial, enchanted feel that is completely lost by other towns (even in Spain) that we have visited. The private hangar held our plane beautifully, and my husband and I plan to return already in October for our anniversary, alone. I simply cannot wait to return. Alamos is truely the Land of Enchantment, and Hacienda de los Santos proved to us, to be Heaven on Earth!!! Thank you to Jim, Nancy, Jamie, Ramon and the entire staff!!! You spoiled us silly!!! The only problem we now face is that our children are begging us to let them join us on this anniversary get-away!

Dear traveler,

We were very surprised and deeply disappointed with your negative review, so we immediately went to our records for June and searched for information about your stay so we could have a talk with the appropriate staff members. However, none of our staff recalled speaking to a dissatisfied guest during that month, and we were unable to find any record of guests from Scottsdale or your email address in our computer. If you are certain you booked a stay with us in Alamos, Sonora during the month of June, could you kindly reconfirm the dates and the name of your suite? That way we can trace who was on duty at the time and apply the proper corrective measures. We look forward to hearing from you.

Official Description (provided by the hotel):
Hacienda de los Santos Resort & Spa is comprised of 18th century mansions and a 17th century Sugar Mill. An extensive restoration and renovation took the owner's nearly 25 years to complete with more than one million man hours of hand labor with the same techniques as two hundred years ago. A portion of the resort is on the original 19th century Mint for northern Mexico. The setting is in the lower Sierra Madre in the village of Alamos which is a National Monument and a national 'Pueblo Magico'. Today with modern conveniences taken to a luxury level, all suites have large screen T.V.'s discretely hidden in antique cabinetry, plus many with antique furnishings, art of prominent Mexican artists and all suites and Hacienda Guest Rooms have at least one fireplace, as well as air conditioning and forced air heat for year around comfort. There is a Andalusian stone theater with state of the art projection and sound systems, a complete library of top films for your viewing enjoyment during the day or evening. Also, two putting greens, four pools, numerous fountains, two restaurants plus a third which is the 'restaurant with a view' from the roof-top which is accessible by elevator for groups of up to 35. Also, there is a full service spa and special classes for group bookings such as cooking, art, architecture, tequila and area tours. The use of the theater, putting greens, parking, room service and mountain bikes is all complimentary for our registered guests. A 19th century 'Zapata's Cantina is a major attraction and nightly live guitar music, in the adjacent 'Santiago's Restaurant, for your dining enjoyment. No 'prepared food' is used in either of the Hacienda's restaurants. The cuisine includes 'Sonora Mexican', plus what most describe as the 'best filet mignon in the world', and a variety of International dishes. The luncheon menu includes a variety of fresh salads, sandwiches and excellent desserts. The owner's have been very pleased to have received a humanitarian award by the Governor's of Sonora and Arizona (Gov. Bours & Gov. Janet Napolitano) for their accomplishments in the village of Alamos. The resort has received a AAA Four Diamond rating for 15 consecutive years, is both a Fodor's Choice and Trip Advisor Traveler's Choice. Due to the 'Hacienda's' historic significance it is also a member of 'Historic Hotels Worldwide'. The resort was the site of an Endemol television series produced for Europe and was used in filming the 175 episode Televisa series of 'La Fuerza del Destino'. The resort also owns a high capacity hangar at the local airport which can be used for group events of up to 700 people with its complete commercial kitchen, pilot's lounge and other facilities. The airport (XALA) has a paved 5,000' runway and approved for aircraft up to and including the Falcon 20 and Lear 45. If you are planning a private flight to XALA the resort has a private aviator's web site available. ... more   less
