Located about 60km northeast of Mexico City this site was founded over 2,000 years ago. The pyramids are some of the best we have ever seen. Don't miss this one.

Please do not skip this place. It's one of the most dramatic and beautiful places you'll ever see. It's been so well preserved yet we know so little of the people that used to live here. Fascinating mystery!
Make sure you have a good guide that explains everything, also about the area outside of the temples. Pack drinks and snacks.

We had a great time climbing to the top of the sun temple. This was a perfect half-day excursion for our family of five. Please note that if you take the bus to Teotihuacan, it does not pick up in the same place that it dropped off.

My family of four hired a driver and we did it on our own. We started with the pyramid of the moon, the top was under rehab but it was still a very steep walk up half-way. We then walked about 10 minutes down the avenue of the dead to the pyramid of the sun. The pyramid of the sun is much higher but the steps aren't as steep, has a rope (as does the moon pyramid) and levels to take a break along the way. My 9-year old son didn't think he'd make it but was so proud when he did. The very top has a narrow bridge so it gets crowded. But you can take some majestic pictures from the top. Wear sneakers (dusty), sun block and hat. Try to not have much to carry with you but have water for afterwards.

Teotihuacan pyramid site is definitely a world wonder. The place is huge.

Who built the city is unknown. Believed to be constructed in BC times. The Aztecs did not discover it for centuries after it was abandoned.

The pyramids rival all others in size. And you must climb the Pyramid of the Sun.

Beware, that MXC is 7500ft at elevation. The air is thin for folks not used to such conditions. I live in the Belize rain forest and the elevation is low. I exercise a lot too and climbing the site was a bit of a challenge. So climbing the pyramids will 'be a gas'. Ha

Get your stair stepper machine out from under the bed and use it for a while before you travel to here. :-)

There is a site entry fee of 64peso, but that was included in my tour package. Don't drive anywhere. The traffic is out of control. Just travel by other means. I stayed in MXC, there is a subway, taxis and buses are inexpensive. Let a local do the driving.

Go. Enjoy it.
