“Back to Room 15”
Reviewed March 5, 2013

As is my norm, I sent an email requesting reservations for four nights and our favorite room and received a very prompt response. Our room was in its normal condition - very clean, fully stocked and firewood laid in the fireplace each day. Since we had just attempted to sleep on a bed we swore had a matress made of marble - we were looking forward to the comfortable beds at Meson de San Antonio. And they didn't disappoint!

Unlike previous trips, they actually had an almost full house on Friday and Saturday night, which we were pleased to see. Not only were they busier but Patzcuaro seemed to have many more tourists than on our previous trips.

Room Tip: Our favorite remains #15!

Great hotel, Beautiful Colonial Mexico, each room has a fireplace and is on a big courtyard with cactus and flowering plants, right down the street from the Basilicia and only a few blocks walk to the center. Under Reno in some rooms but the ones done are wonderful.

Room Tip: Rooms 9 or 15 are great

Lovely people running the hotel, however we were the only people staying there because most of the rooms were being upgrades, so it was very quiet. Very clean and we would stay there again. Great value and lovely to sit beside a real wood fire in our room

The central location, the super-helpful staff and the charming rooms ( we had one with a fireplace), pretty gardens and decor makes this a very special spot to visit. We received very helpful travel advice and suggestions for tours, dining and special events from front desk staff - it was authentic, honest and given generously. The only improvement I could suggest would be to the coffee at breakfast. Next visit, we'll spend more time in Patzcuaro and visit the villages around the lake using Meson de San Antonio as our very welcoming home base.

After spending 5 nights in Oaxaca and 3 nights in Puebla, we headed back to Patzcuaro and our favorite hotel. Upon our request, we were once again given room 15 for two nights and everything was exactly what we have come to expect - exceptionally clean, quiet and a very friendly staff. Our rate was once again $770MXN/night.

Room Tip: Our favorite is #15 but we have never had a bad room.

What a fantastic old roadhouse from days gone by. If the stone walls could talk........

All the positive things that others have already posted are so true of this hotel. We particularly like the wood fire place although it didn't provide much heat during our chilli January visit. We are Canadian so we felt it our obligation to deal with the cool temps without complaint for fear of being branded whimpy. LOL
Great location, great history, great charm, clean rooms, mucho agua caliente.........

p.s. The live on site housekeep was so sweet. She treated us as family. Our clothes were damp having arrived from the coastal humidity and she help us hang everything in the sun to dry. Genuine good people!

Room Tip: Pick a room that gets as much sun as possible in the winter so it warms up a bit and a shady room in...

Located a block from the básilica, the San Antonio is far enough from the zócalos to be quiet, yet a few minutes' walk center city. Rooms are set around a lovely rustic central garden in traditional Mexican style. Bathrooms are clean and hot water is adequate, and you get a fireplace with wood for chilly evenings. I've stayed here three times, and unless you show up on the Day of the Dead or some other major holiday, chances are you'll be alone or nearly alone in this beautiful hotel. Free wi-fi and coffee and pan dulce in the mornings in the hotel's gorgeous dining room/kitchen. Staff is friendly and attentive without being officious. I make a habit of looking into other hotels as I wander about a new city, and despite entering several others, I keep going back to the San Antonio. You can pay more, but I don't think you'll find a better place to stay in Pátzcuaro. I'd rate it a "5" except they don't offer queen or king beds.

Room Tip: The rooms at the back are darker than those along the sides, which have light from two sides.
