The rooms are average, but it has a very good restaurant with one of the most surprising appetizers I have ever had: Fried guajillo chiles used as a base for a tostada of fresh cheese, acid cream, coriander, onion and manzano peppers.
It has a very nice lawn for kids to play.

Room Tip: The rooms on the upper floor are warmer than those on the ground floor, this is basic in the Fall an...

We stayed at the Hosteria De San Felipe (see also Hotel Mision Patzcuaro) for 3 nights in October/November 2010, during the Dia de los Muertos celebrations.

We honestly were not expecting a great deal from this hotel, as the reviews on here are sparse and not that fantastic, but I think they may be old, as we absolutely loved this quaint, rustic hotel.

The hotel is situated a little over a mile from the centre of town, which was actually a very good thing during Dia de los Muertos, because traffic in town is TERRIBLE, and it is very nice to be able to come back to the peaceful gardens of the hotel and relax, as well as have our car parked safely and close to our room. Also, a taxi into the Plaza Grande was only about $2.00, and reception was very happy to call one when ever we needed, and they always arrived within about 1-2 minutes.

The rooms are rustic, attractive and very clean. They "feel" very mexican, with the lovely earthy colours and arched details, and the fireplace was fantastic, it made the room very cozy in the evening. The bed was very comfortable, and the TV had quite a few channels to choose from, including some english language movie channels.

There was plenty of closet space, plus a small table and chairs that made an extra small sitting area. If I could suggest anything at all that could be lacking, it would have been great to have a small fridge and tea/coffee making facilities in our room, but the very reasonable prices (and the delicious Mexican Hot Chocolate) at the restaurant overcame this issue. Also, I didn't encounter a fridge in any other hotels in Mexico, so I guess this is not a usual thing to have in hotels there.

Facilities were of a higher standard than most other places we stayed in Mexico. A very nice restaurant is located just across the garden, where they serve breakfast, lunch and dinner. The meals were always tasty and generous, with reasonable prices and friendly staff. They also have a bar, and you can take drinks out into the garden to sit in the cool evening air.

Laundry facilities are available through reception, and whilst it was a little pricey (around $27 for a shopping bag full of clothes), it was less than many large hotels charge and the clothes were ready within 24 hours.

Free wireless internet was available, however the signal was not fantastic unless you have a room reasonably close to the reception area. We found sitting outside our room on the porch was fine, or you can also sit on the comfy lounges near reception to use your computer.

The housekeeping staff were very thorough and our room was always fresh and clean for us, with toilettries replenished and plenty of fresh towells. At one stage we had an issue with the toilet (a piece of the button to flush broke and we needed it fixed), and upon reporting it to reception, we had someone from maintenence there almost immediatelly to assist us.

We really enjoyed our stay at this hotel, and would definately recommend to anyone visiting Patzcuaro, especially for Dia de los Muertos.

Thank you to the staff for making our stay a very pleasant one.

Great hotel for colonial rustic lovers, lots of wood beams, really nice & clean, good size rooms, great gardens, birds, jacuzzi and parking. We stayed 4 nights, just enough time to see most towns around Patzcuaro: Quiroga-Tzintzuntzan, Erongaricuaro, Santa Clara Cobre and Janitzio.
Our only complaint would be the lack of heaters, in Nov. nights and morning temps. are in the 40's, even with 2 wool covers, it gets cold. They have fire places which are nice but the wood lasts only 1- 2 hrs. We got an incredible promotion 2x1, ($40/ nt.) which made it worth it. The htl. is not in downtown, we took public transportation, 7 mts. drive.

A bit overpriced for what you get... but our stay was fine. The room was actually quite cute, with lots of wood and typical Mexican decor. Our room was quiet, though we didn't really like having to drive/bus it into town. Keeping the fireplace going got a bit tedious after a while... esp b/c we had to ask for firewood several times. Service in the restaurant was slow. I would look for someplace else to stay if I ever go back to Patzcuaro... but wouldn't balk if I had to stay here again.

The hotel is completely over priced.

Is a nice property, how ever, the services are not very good for $120 USD/night.

The food in the restaurant was always served cold, the hotel is next to a property that has several barking dogs all night.

Another night, there was a party next door, we did not get any sleep.

The rooms are small with a fireplace, how ever, the reception kep telling us that they were going to get firewood, but every night they never showed up.

There was some hot water, but with almost no pressure.

Stay at the BestWestern instead.

Enjoy.
