“Great place to sample quality handicrafts”
Reviewed July 4, 2012

If you're lucky enough to visit Patzcuaro this is a must-see venue. The area around Patzcuaro has varied and quality handicrafts and these are best exposed at the Casa. The prices are upwards but then so is the quality. I'd say the copper work is especially rare and good, but so is the woodcarving. The Pur'hepecha (or Tarascans) people of the region are quite reserved (though parties can be raucous) and take great pride in their handicrafts and the natural beauty of the area. The vendors are relaxed and the site very pretty, it makes for a wonderful half-day visit, after which you can delve into some fine foods at the Plaza Quiroga.

“great and interesting shopping”
Reviewed June 19, 2012

This warren of shops has a wide range of interesting and well done crafts by local artists. There's a little bit of everything and we found a number of nice pieces to take back home. It's nice to be buying directly from the artists - often in the form of cooperatives. Michoacan has some great artists and traditions and the Eleven Patios presents a good overview of the local talent. Also some great shops just beside the entrance to this building.

“La Casa Encantada (where I live) is just around the corner, so I show off 11 Patios frequently”
Reviewed June 1, 2012

So many hidden gems one woiuldn't notice without help. For example.. it is important to go into the 1st building to the left of the big fountain (the one with the stunning interior patio). Under the stairs is the nuns bath from the 18th century. The Sisters of Saint Catherine of Sienna bathed here. The good Sisters still to this day run the school behind 11 Patios . The stair well has 2 gorgeous windows made of alabaster! Among other shops is the tiendita of the Co-op of Santa Ana. a village that specailizes in embroidered stories of life around the lake. AMAZING work.

It is good to peek in to the space that holds a working loom on the right side of the fountain. Patzcuaro is famous for it's hand loomed fabrics made the old way on looms and very affordable and easy to transport memento of the region. Either table ware.. napkins/tablecloths or yardage. I took yards and yards of handwoven unbleached fabric to my daughter for drapery in her new place QUE elegante!

You will find little shops that carry the Laquer-ware which is also made locally by hand in a lengthy and complex process.. 11 Patios is a beautiful place full of little nooks and hidden stairs and shops. Do not miss it when exploring Patzcuaro!

“We only saw one patio...but it was pretty.”
Reviewed May 28, 2012

When we visited one evening the only things that were open to the public were the entrance courtyard where vehicles can be parked, the church and one courtyard where there was some sort of children's event or meeting being carried out. The church is very old and quite interesting, worth a visit but when compared to the other churches we saw on the trip it was average. It would have liked to have a more complete tour of the attraction but I think that we arrived too late and we didn't have time the next day,
