Thomas and Luz run a wonderful B & B in San Antonio, one of the towns along Lake Chapala. We think it is a great area, because it is quieter and more relaxing than Ajijic. Casa Luz is very special to us after only a 10-day stay. Thomas is incredibly talented – speaks fluent English, Spanish, German & French; teaches Spanish & English; teaches yoga (I enjoyed 3 of his classes while there); and currently is the B & B chef, as Luz, a very gifted artist, is busy with a new addition – their 6 week old baby boy! Thomas & Luz were very informative on any topic we came up with and anxious to help us get the most of our days here. This help is really invaluable in a new area, and it was a super bonus to have this kind of support.

Room rates include breakfast, and it is a real treat. This is a full breakfast, not continental. Every day is different, but it always starts with a huge bowl of mixed fruit and great local coffee. There is a different combo of fruits each day and a big dollop of yogurt on the top. Granola is available if you want to top it with that. The bananas are locally grown...by locally, I mean in their back yard/garden area! They just pick them and serve them. I am gluten intolerant, and they provided gluten free bread just for me, even though I insisted they not go to the trouble. They really took excellent care of us. I told Thomas, that he has to round up all his children (guests) and get us all off safely on our way each morning, and he does an excellent job of just that.

The towns along Lake Chapala run together. Until you have been here awhile, it is hard to tell where one ends and other begins. We loved being at this B&B in San Antonio. From the B & B, it is a couple blocks to the bus stop, and 5 minutes to Ajijic. The bus ride is a bargain at 7 pesos/person (13 pesos = US$1, or $0.54/person). The bus goes from one end of the lake to the other - from one town to the other. You can hop off and go all over Ajijic, then slip back very easily to lovely San Antonio for a good night's rest. The area is very, very safe, confirmed to us by an X-Dallas police officer, now retired Lakeside.

We loved our room. The king-size bed was very comfortable; the room was spotless, decorated beautifully. Check out the pictures we took of the brick ceilings and rich floor tiles; finished with some of Luz’s own artwork! Each room opens out onto a roof patio. We also posted pictures of the views from the patio of the mountains, Lake Chapala and the beautiful gardens of Casa Luz. I took a picture of a lovely bird in one of their trees, and we have watched a ground squirrel descend into his hole in the back yard. The hummingbirds love the banana trees.

Casa Luz is in a great location, great accommodations and has great hosts. We highly, highly recommend it!

Room Tip: We loved the room we had as it had sunshine and warmth. Even though the temperatures drop to 55 to 60 F at night, we slept comfortable with our windows open. All rooms on second level - ours was on the south/west. We would ask for it again!

My wife and I spent another couple weeks at Casa Luz last month (our first trip was in February earlier this year). Thomas and Luz are excellent hosts, and went to great effort to make our stay a very enjoyable one. Rooms are clean and comfortable with Luz's beautiful artwork displayed throughout. We enjoyed our morning tea from the veranda every day, watching the sun rise and enjoying the view of the lake and mountains. Thomas gives Spanish lessons and on this second trip, we took 2 per week. We enjoyed ourselves each lesson and he met us at our level. The B&B is very close to the San Antonio Plaza, where there is some great local food from juices to tacos and other goodies. Also just a couple blocks from the main road where there are many dining options. We have stayed in two different rooms and liked both of them. Definitely recommend and we won't hesitate to stay there again.

My husband and I spent a month with Luz and Thomas. We were looking for a quite place to stay after enjoying other parts of Mexico. Our hosts were amazing, the food so good, huge breakfasts that lasted all day!!We read a lot of books from their huge selection, enjoyed other guests that visited, and shared a month with great hosts. We walked everyday, to the lake 5 minutes away,to Ajijic half an hours pleasant walk, many shops, art gallery,s lots of culture. We would take the local bus to Chapala 20 minits away,a larger town, again many shops,Restuarant,s and a beautiful walk along the lake front. We were 5 minutes from the water slides,Wallmart, Casino, and bank. The little town of San Antonio very Mexican, friendly people, nice town square to sit ,with ice cream, and watch the locals.Rooms clean, hosts A 1....

Room Tip: The blue room, separate bedroom, spacious,All rooms large.nice wrap around balcony, overlooking garden. Our stay was in 2012..

Casa Luz is a small, secluded B & B. Its owners are Thomas, from Austria and Luz, a Mexican painter. The decor is modern and of good taste. The rooms are big and very clean. The breakfast they both cook and serve every morning are world class. The house has a nice garden, places to read, to talk read or eat. The town of San Antonio Tlayacapan is between Chapala and Ajijic. It has perfect weather year around. As a town it has more mexican flavor than both surrounding towns. You can see and buy the beautiful painings from Luz: local huichole women, trees, and much more. Thomas is an extremely nice person, always willing to help. He speaks several languages.
