“Lovely, Lovely”
Reviewed November 27, 2013

They have done a great job renovating the malecon. It is such a pleasure to walk along it and stop at one of the restaurants . It is kept clean and the view at night, at sunset is spectacular.
Certainly a jewel for Chapala.

“Perfect place for a picnic!”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

This relatively new edition to the lakeside landscape is a welcomed one! The malecon is a wide paved walkway between the lake and picnic/park areas. You can sit on a bench and watch the daily committed clocked speed walkers, enjoy the leashed pets being pampered or just sit still and bird or sunset watch! The malecons are also in place in towns to the East and a West. Chapala's is wide, wonderful and the manicured parks are almost empty. Brightly painted play grounds with no players! Ajijic is also enjoying a skate park in the same area. There is also a litter free campaign in place throughout the area and town. There are restaurants nearby for lunch; but a nice family friendly cafe right on the malecon would be a nice addition!

“Malecon beauty”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

The renovation of the Malecon has made it one of the more pleasant areas of Ajijic. Many people, locals and tourists, can be seen walking its length along the lake morning and evening, especially at sunset.

“Ajijic Malecon”
Reviewed November 25, 2013

If you are strolling westward on the malecon, look up to the hills on your front right and you'll see the eagle on the hills in the distance--beak facing to its left, wings extended. For thousands of years, no greenery has grown on this image, although the soil and stone surrounding it is green. The only greenery in the image is one tree that forms the eye. This is the best place to view this phenomenon that is is rumored caused the Aztecs to pause here for a number of years, thinking this was the "eagle with a snake in its mouth" that marked the place they were supposed to settle. A wonderful place to watch the sunrise, sunset, or any other time of day--and to observe culture. Strollers, families picnicking in the park, children playing in the playground. If you are lucky, there will be an art display by various artists. During Day of the Dead, a fantastic exhibit of giant Katrinas..
