“Stroll down the malecon”

If you feel like a good morning stroll, this is an ideal place.
You have Lake Chapala on one side and different things to see
on the other (gym equipment, a little outdoor arena, a skateboard area to mention a few) Actually, people stroll here at all hours of the day. I just like the mornings.

If you're a new visitor to Ajijic - or even if you've been there before - you really MUST visit the Ajijic Malecon. It's a lovely spot to take in the beauty of Lake Chapala and the surrounding mountains. Most of the week the tranquility of the malecon is a perfect complement to the natural beauty of the area - that is, apart from the one small area devoted to the young skateboarders - but even they are relatively "tranquil," at least for skateboarders. Sundays provide a people-watching taste of real Mexico, as families congregate for picnics and barbeques. And, you're only a few steps from "Colon, the main street in Ajijic, full of attractive shops and restaurants. For a larger malecon with more touristic hustle and bustle, and with equally beautiful views of the lake, also be sure to visit the malecon in nearby Chapala. Don't miss either one!

This malecon is short but beautiful. Since I can't go to the ocean this must do. It's peaceful. At least during the week.

The beautiful malecon (in English it would be called a boardwalk, but made of concrete and tiles, not boards), is lined with palms and has many benches to rest, lights for early mornings or evenings, a playground for the children, a concrete area with concrete hills and valleys for bikers and skateboarders, and a great exercise area with marvelous equipment if walking isn't enough for you. The walkway is very wide and pets are permitted - a very good place to socialize your puppies. Lake Chapala, Mexico's largest lake, laps the edge of the malecon when its level is up to normal, which it isn't now nor was it back in 2003 when we first arrived, but for many years it has been full and it will be again. The malecon is also on the edge of Ajijic Village and walking distance to many of the most popular restaurants and boutique shops...a great area for tourists and residents alike.
