“A Great Steak Restaurant with much more to offer”
Reviewed July 7, 2012

We have a Semi Monthly Dinner group in Ajijic and attend the better restaurants here.
On Thursday night June 14, 6 of us from our Semi Monthly Dinner group ate at HACIENDA AJIJIC Steak Place. The restaurant was about half full. Jorge, the owner told us that Wednesday and Thursday are his busiest days. He is considering putting specials on for other days as there is no business except for a few Mexicans on weekends.

On Wednesday, all Seafood dishes are $ 99. pesos. On Thursday all Meat is $ 99 pesos (that's about $ 7.60 US). This is a great deal, so patronize Hacienda Ajijic as Jorge is a very hard working young man. They served the tortilla chips with salsa first. They are now using a nice fresh Tortilla chip, non greaseless and very freshly made salsa with no bite to it and the salsa had just come from the fridge.

They took our drink orders. Some had Margaritas. Two had wine, both red and white. They said it was good and a decent pour, large glasses about half full, for $ 38. pesos.

We ordered our food. One person ordered the Shrimp Diablo, which you can get in varying degrees of heat. He ordered it mild and said the meal was very good. It comes with rice and veggies.

Five of us ordered the Filet Mignon. It comes with a choice of sauces: Mushroom, Pepper or Red wine sauce. We all ordered the Mushroom sauce which was very good with huge chunks of mushrooms. You can get a choice of Baked Potato with/without Sour Cream, Veggies or Fettucine as a side. Some chose the Baked Potato, others the Fettucine. I chose the Baked Potato and Veggies which were hard as a rock. I ate the carrots, but the broccoli was hard. We all agreed that the Filet Mignon was very large, very tasty, tender and cooked to perfection. Service at Hacienda is always excellent.

Their menu also consists of other steaks, salmon, bass, lamb, lamb arrachera, rabbit and boar and some pastas. Lots of appetizers and salads.

“Nice restaurant”

We like the setting but last time there everything had so much salt in it, could not eat all of it. My husband's baked potato was inedible.

“Try the molcajete”
Reviewed February 9, 2012

Hacienda Ajijic is a steak restaurant out on the western edge of Ajijic. It's right on the caraterra, on the lakeside about 2 km west of the village.
We stopped in one night just to see what it was like and we were impressed. In fact, my wife remembers that meal over many of our other restaurant visits throughout the area.
We decided to order the Molcajete, based simply on the description on the menu. I believe it described it as a volcanic surprise of beef, chicken and shrimp covered in a mound of cheese. It's a big meal for two, so we thought we'd give it a try.
It was great. It is a very large serving of beef, chicken and shrimp in a red sauce with onions, peppers and other vegetables covered with (as they said) a huge mound of cheese. It is served in a molcajete (hence the name) which is the bowl, liken to a mortar bowl, which is carved out of vesicular basalt. The bowl and the ingredients must be cooked in a stove for hours because the bowl is so hot that the contents were nearly boiling when served. The mound of cheese melted slowly into the bowl creating a thick mixture of meat, chicken, shrimp, vegetables & cheese which was seasoned excellently.
We spent nearly an hour enjoying the meal and the bowl remained hot throughout our entire dinner.
For a nice meal, decent atmosphere and reasonable prices I would recommend this to any visitors of the area looking for an enjoyable Mexican meal.
