Ajijic Suites on Hidalgo
Ranked #5 of 26 Ajijic B&B and Inns
Reviewed September 21, 2012

I just spent a very pleasant month with Elaine and Luis at Ajijic Suites. My second floor suite was bright, comfortable and well equipped. Elaine is a great source of information on local happenings and services and the hotel is but a short walk from the "heart of Ajijic" shops, restaurants and the town plaza...conveniently located yet just far enough from the "action" to be fairly quiet. Reasonable monthly rates make Ajijic Suites a super value for extended stays.

Room Tip: Second floor suites are bright and airy.

Thank you, Charles, for taking the time to write this nice review about your stay with us. We were happy to contribute to the process of wooing you away from Medellin & "wowing" you with Ajijic! We know that the opportunity to play lots of tennis was a big contributory factor & are so glad that you found somewhere to fulfil that need. Gracias a Club Nautico in La Floresta!

My suite had a view of the sun setting over mountains. It was very clean and bright. The small lakeside town of Ajijic is safe and quiet and everything is within walking distance. Perfect for escaping winter cold or summer heat especially as the monthly rates are so low. The host, Elaine, was very helpful and goes out of her way for you. Just perfect!

Thank you Elaine and Luis... for such a lovely month. Ajijic was more than I hoped and your apartments were the icing on the cake. Clean, personalized, safe-- and the feeling that it was important that I enjoyed my visit. The weather was fabulous! Yes, it was the 'rainy season but, except for one day, the rains were at night and the sun appeared in the morning. A person couldn't find a better place to escape the heat in some areas of the United States. The town is safe and, without exception, the locals were friendly and helpful. To any who long for a peaceful village and spring-like weather-- Ajijic is the place. Forget all the 'warnings' about Mexico-- I was a woman travelling alone and felt just fine. I was sad to leave a place that felt like home and proprietors who felt like friends....Cynthia from Florida

Room Tip: The upstairs rooms have the best views... Mine had a small porch and was the Oxaca room... fabulous...

Thanks for taking the time to write such an extensive & lovely review, Cynthia. We're so glad that you enjoyed your stay, particularly when you were feeling a little "low" when you arrived - hence the extra "pampering"! It was a pleasure having your company, & we hope to welcome you back again soon - either with hubby or girlfriends!

Like so many places in Mexico, you can't tell what pleasures await you inside by looking at the outside. The suite was perfect for my friend and I--the 3 rooms allowed us to have naps, privacy, meals, and not to trip all over each other. The kitchenette/living room was adequate for cooking breakfast and lunch. We're not TV watchers, but that is also provided. The bathroom in Rose Suite is huge and has a spacious shower. In addition to our rooms, there is a shared living space inside and another outside. I read a novel and several guide books on the library shelves. Everything is clean and beautifully decorated. We were picked up at the airport at 6 am and had a little breakfast awaiting us in the room when we arrived after traveling all night long. Elaine made herself available for advice and help and was a kind and caring hostess. It was a great vacation!

Room Tip: Well, there is no swimming pool, so I wouldn't say Excellent or Terrible, but the survey didn...

Thanks for taking the time to write such a nice review, Merrill. It was so much fun having you & Katherine to stay, & I was amazed at how much activity you girls packed into such a short period of time! The photo I took of Katherine with a glass of wine in one hand & a margarita in the other sums up your ability to have a good time & not miss out on anything! Thanks for being such great guests!

Enchantment wraps the heart the moment one enters Ajijic, but magic replaces it when one crosses through "la puerta," the door to Ajijic Suites. Peering into the hallway, a visitor is greeted by a pair of ornate iron gates that show flair but also assure security, not that it is really needed in Ajijic. The eyes are drawn to the book case beyond the gates and into the grand foyer of the suites- a vibrant and alive space that splashes the eye with the dashing colors of Méjico- that beckon the weary body to sit a spell, to absorb the calm, and experience the tranquility cast on the place by the fountain in the outer courtyard just beyond the window pane. Bóveda ceilings reach high into the air and invite visitors to exhale their cares and worries high into their splendid arches. It is from this place that one can then explore the many private spaces that make up suites. The lower rooms are the grand rooms, each filled with exactly the things to make them become the perfect place for travelers to ground themselves for extended stays or merely refresh from a day's adventures around the lake. Outside the foyer are the other suites that tempt visitors and guests alike with either their balcony, outdoor patio, or breathtaking view of the mountain and lake. The last was my suite, and I not only adored the view, but also made a new friend of the huge hummingbird who sat outside my window every morning making sure that I was happy to share his home with him. How could I not find happiness here? The suite had everything I could want including a marvelous nook with two wooden bar stools that became my favorite place to sit, reflect, and write. To be sure, there was also a stuffed chair in the room which was large enough to hold my curled up feet while I spent time finishing the last chapter of a book I started while on the plane. Across from it was the armoire and television complete with cable including three channels of just English stations should one feel the need to be connected to that language. The kitchen was on the other side and had a refrigerator, work space, microwave, drip coffee maker, and all the utensils needed to make the room nearly self contained. On the other side of the kitchen was the bathroom, a clean and modern space done in white tile and sparkling clean with a generous supply of towels, soaps, and even wash cloths. Purified water was available in both the kitchen and the bathroom which eliminated the worry about needing to spend too much time in the bathroom later in the week! Because of the great comfort there, I found that my week passed entirely too quickly. Elaine and Luis were and are the best hosts I have experienced anywhere, and they have created a destination for those traveling to Ajijic. The best part of the visit has to be the many memories they helped me create. The worst part of the trip was returning to the United States and leaving behind the amazing pueblo of Ajijic, the many extraordinary guests and owners at this hotel, the wonderfully kind and heart- warming people of the village, and my new friend- the hummingbird.

Room Tip: The room with the outdoor patio is, in my opinion, the very best.

Loved our stay at the Ajijic Suites. It feels so cosy and friendly. Elaine and Luis really put a lot into keeping the place as sweet as it is. The best thing is being able to walk to everything in Ajijic. You can't beat the convenience. Everything is right there for you - internet access, patio with fountain, lobby with magazines where you can meet other guests. Just super. I would certainly stay there again anytime we go back to Ajijic- which I hope will be soon!
