“Very relaxing stay”
4 of 5 bubbles Reviewed July 6, 2008

We stayed at the Le Vieux Presbytere for four nights in July 2008. The hotel is located on the scenic and rustic Ile D'Orleans which is approximately 30 minutes from downtown Quebec City by auto. The inn is a reflection of its surrounding on the quaint, quiet isle, and is situated between two churches.
Our room was #2, which was on the first floor next to the lounge area, included queen bed and a private bath. The rate also included breakfast in the morning.
All in all, our accomoadations were more than adequate. The room was spacious and clean, decorated with antique-type furniture. The bed was comfortable and the bathroom while, clean and functional, needed a little more lighting in the bathtub area. The chairs in the room were not the most comfortable either. However, we had easy access to the porch which had lawn chairs and a view of the St Lawence river in the distance past the farm fields with livestock grazing. The livestock also had full view of us if we forgot to shut the shutters or shades in the bathroom. The room did not have air coditioning and we found the window difficult to open, but it was cool enough during our visit that this did not matter.
This is not a place that you want to stay if you must remain connected to the world. There was not a phone, television or radio in the room.
The breakfast included in the room rate was served in a separate bright cheery sunroom type area by a very friendly staff. It was plentiful and good, with choices of eggs, crepes, or french toast and plentiful toast, coffee and juice to get your day going. The restaurant is also open in the evening and served a very nice dinner(check with the owner for reservations).
All in all this is a place to stay if you want to explore the Ile D'Orleans or prefer not to stay in the Quebec City, but want to be able to stay within driving distance.

5 of 5 bubbles Reviewed August 6, 2007

We stayed at Le Vieux Presbytère for one night to help out the owner of the B&B we normally stay at on Ile d'Orleans. She set us up at the Vieux Presbytère. This is an auberge, or inn, not a bed and breakfast, like we're accustomed to staying in on the island, so it was slightly less personal than what we liked, but we still had a great time all the same.

We stayed on the ground floor in Room #2, La Chambre du Curé. It's a beautiful, large room with plenty of storage for clothing. The attached bathroom is large with a lot of counter space. The room is off a nice sitting area, which is really rather private, since the rest of the rooms are either upstairs or in buildings behind the main building. There is a door in the room that leads to the back porch where you can sit and take in the great view of the Saint Lawrence. The only drawbacks to the room are that the bathroom shares a wall with the bathroom for the restaurant, so noise can be heard through there, but not too bad, and the porch is open to anyone staying there. With the large windows in the room, unless you have the blinds drawn, there is a slight lack of privacy at times.

We took advantage of the "forfait", or meal package. For an additional $30 per person, we could eat at the restaurant and select from a four course meal from a "table d'hôte". How it works is you chose from a list of several appetizers for the first course, you then receive a soup of the day, then you select from one of several main courses, and then you finish by selecting one of several desserts. For $30 it's quite a bargain. In the morning we had the breakfast that was included in the price of the room. Again, the food was wonderful.

My partner accidentally left his glasses in the room after we had checked out and had realized it while we were out site seeing for the day. When we arrived at our regular B&B in the evening to check in, the owner of the Vieux Presbytère had already called her to tell her that she had found the glasses and would set them aside for us. That was a nice touch.
