We had the luxury of a private tour with only 15 people and all the time in the world. Our guide was very experienced AND funny (Marguerite) and gave us tons of background information on what we were looking at. We spent hours at the Basilica and were never bored as our senses were given a real workout! From the entryway with two majestic columns displaying discarded crutches, canes, braces, and everything else you can imagine to the artwork and mosaics, the details were simply amazing. Spending ony 30 minutes here would have been a "sin". Even my husband who generally grumbles at a trip to yet another cathedral was very impressed and never bored. The fact that this cathedral is built with donations of money and materials from all over the world is also impressive and shows how faith can draw people from many backgrounds together. A MUST SEE if you're in the area.
