The host Thierry is the highlight of Au Boisé Joli. He is delightful, interesting and multi-talented. His breakfast is wholesome, and garnished with herbs and edible flowers from his garden. He makes his own jams and marmelades which he sells, and the cheeses are local. Au Boisé Joli is not only a warm and friendly place to stay, but it is a place where quality matters.

At first appearance we were worried that we had chosen the wrong B&B: the front porch tends to lean a bit and the grounds seemed slightly unkempt. One should never make quick judgements. Our host, Thierry is a charming man who was willing to do anything for us. Our rooms were large and very clean. There is a patio way back in the property that overlooks the St. Lawrence and is a beautiful place for Happy Hour or for a quiet time in the evening. The accommodation is close to almost everything you might want to see and the shopping is very nice: this is Québec's wood carving capital and pieces are available in any price range. The breakfasts were the most interesting that we had in our 28 days of travel throughout the Maritimes and Québec.

On my way aback to New York from PEI, I had made a reservation at Au Boise Joli , located in an interesting little town a stones throw from the St. Lawrence River. It has art galleries, galleries featuring wood carvings, small shops, inns and restaurants. To me, the star is the stone church from the mid to late 1700s.
Au Boise Joli is in a house from the 1800s, run by Thierry, a most charming, informative and helpful host. No problem if you do not speak French. He is fluent in English, Spanish and some German. The house seems large with 2 or 3 public rooms, nicely furnished with antiques and a large piano. People sit around the rooms and talk, so getting to know one another is easy.
The rooms are a nice size. Being alone, I had the Richelieu. Everything is spotless and in its place.
There are 5 rooms which share 3 baths and a half bath. The bathrooms always seemed free and I took a shower evening and morning.
Be prepared to spend an hour or more at breakfast which consisted of scrambled eggs, home made breads and jams, many made from flowers, coffee and conversations with Thierry.
In back of the house, there is a deck overlooking the river and stairs leading down to the riverside.
The inn is centrally located, almost next to the church with several restaurants within walking distance.Listen to Thierry for which to eat at. There is another beautiful restaurant in L'Islet, about 10 miles away, Auberge de Marguerite, a bit more expensive.
Rates for all this are very reasonable
I hope Thierry and his wife stay in St. Jean Port Joli. It is a beautiful spot and I will be back.

Wonderful host and delightful breakfast. Rooms were nicely furnished and very comfortable. Shared bathrooms were exceptionally clean and did not result in any inconvenience. Thierry treated us as friends and spent time discussing the art, making us feel at home and recommending where we could have a good evening meal. Breakfast was extraordinary and eggs benedict with saffron were special as were the home made daylily and rosehip jams. We would return.

Thierry, the host, is a charming person with a lot of talents and knowledge. His breakfast is probably the best one I have ever had, with edible flowers decorating the plate. The house is a bicentenial building very well decorated and charming. The site is along the St-Laurent and there is a large patio where we had an enjoyable drink (you have to bring your drink or food).

My husband and I just got home from a wonderful vacation in Quebec. We spent 6 nights at the Au Boise Joli in Port Joli and had a fantastic vacation.

Thierry is a warm and welcoming host. I felt like the B&B really was home for the 6 days that we were there. It is kept clean, tastefully furnished (yet very liveable) and the bed was very comfortable. There are 4 bathrooms, one is a 2 piece. The other 3 either include a lovely bathtub or a shower. I definitely am envious of the washrooms at this B&B.

And the food is terrific. Thierry is an imaginative cook who served up a different breakfast for each of the 6 days we were there. He makes his own breads and jams. And be prepared; breakfast is 3 courses of delicious food!

I would highly recommend this B&B. And if you only speak English, don't worry. Thierry can speak English and he can help you with learning a few new French words!

In times we have driven through Quebec we have been hesitant to enter the small towns along the beautiful St.Lawrence because of fear of the language barrier. The owner of this B&B, Thierry, made us feel more than welcomed. His willingness to converse in English and help us understand the locale made our stay most enjoyable. The house built in the late 1700's gave the atmosphere of history in our modern times.

We would highly recommend it...the breakfast is the extra treat!
