“New Management and warm stay!”
Reviewed August 4, 2013 via mobile

Great value, beautiful wood work everywhere and charming host! The view is exceptional and the food is deliciously local. You feel like a part of the family and even the dog Cookie is charming.

A cosy place to discover!

I can't read French but it seems like the other reviewers did not like this B & B. I will give my full assessment. My husand and I are big skiers and we wanted to stay at a nice hotel close to La Massif. We have now stayed at La Cote d'Or 2 years in a row during February after staying at the Chateau Frontenac in Quebec City. We have stayed a total of 5 nights so I have a good sense of this place. Below I list the good and not so good.
1. Great location-only 10-15 minutes from LaMassif-closer than any hotels in Baie St. Paul. The hotel has an amazing view of the river, including great views from our room, the dining room, and the hot tub. The location is also very quiet.
2. Great value. We paid $171 per person plus tax and tip for a La Massif ski ticket, room 9 (great room), breakfast and 4 course dinner. Given the very high cost of eating out and a decent hotel room, we found this was a great deal. The price per person is much cheaper without dinner or the ski ticket.
3. Food. We had breakfast and dinner there for a total of 5 nights. After spending a week eating in Quebec City, which has amazing food, this place did not disappoint. The Breakfast is amazing, we had the vegetarian omelette with local cheese with perfectly cooked potatotes. The dinner has a nice menu and accomodates vegetarians. Nice wine list from the region of France where the owners are from.
4. Rooms/decor. We have stayed in room 10 and 9, both have great views. The decor is kinda 1950s, but the owner is a wood worker and makes all the wood furniture in the place. The rooms were clean. The showers are strange. We had a nice bathtub but we had to sit down to use the shower -maybe it was not working
4. hotbut-great outdoor hottub. The owners are very strict about a few things and this in one of them. you need to make an appointment, and you get 1/2 hour. While strange, it works out well because you have it to yourself.
5. Need to take shoes off when you enter
6. Owners are not very accomodating. They are nice, but for example, they gave us only two towels and one bathrobe and we were supposed to use them for both the hottub and showering. When we inquired to get more towels we got a stern look. The owner could not recommened any local restaurants to us because she does not go out. I think she should have some places to recommend given that there is no internet there. The owners are not warm and kinda make you feel like you are walking on eggshells.
7. Tip. If you stay there, you should bring your own apres ski snacks. We usually get back to the hotel around 3, but no food is being served then. We got our own local cheese, crackers..and enoyed the table and view in our room.
8. Not a place for kids. It is pretty quiet. Bring a good book.

Room Tip: room 10 and 9 have great views and their own bathroom
