“New Year's Eve at Montebello ”
Reviewed February 1, 2014 via mobile

We stayed 2 nights including New Year's Eve with total of 16 family members and really enjoyed our stay. The gala was fun and the men enjoyed wearing tuxedos. Food was a bit too fancy for the teens but the adults were happy. We loved the activities and our group had a private sleigh ride, plus we skated, curled, skied, dog sledded, swam, went to the spa, hot tubbed and relaxed. A great Canadian winter destination ! One needs to know that the hotel is a really big old log cabin, so expectations of room size etc need to be tempered by this fact.
I hope to be back next year!

A 5 star hotel? Yes, I see the charm, the beautiful fireplace, the wonderful staff, but it's in the details that warrant a 5 star rating in my world. Finger prints on windows, fingerprints smears on the doors, dust on ALL the lanterns in our room (or maybe that's suppose to be that old world charm?) Thin quality towels, tv reception was terrible, dated furniture, walls needed a paint job, and no complimentary bottle water...really?....5 stars? I think NOT!

Dear nancyMONTREAL123, I thank you for your honest feedback. We do work very hard day after day to provide outstanding service and offer a perfectly impeccable hotel, but I appreciate your comments about the lack of attention to details. I did send your note to our housekeeping manager to ensure we put more focus on such details.

We do have an older hotel, which is not the typical modern elegance, but more like an old country chalet, while offering a comfortable and rustic feel. We constantly go around the hotel to touch up paint and it is a full time job.

I am sorry about TV reception, as we did experience some challenges in January but all is back to normal now.

Again, thank you!

Sincerely, Geneviève

Loved our one night stay in this gorgeous log cabin in the snow. From the large open fireplaces inside to the ice skating rinks outside, we enjoyed every minute of our play stay. The meals were delicious, the beds were very comfortable and the pool and whirlpool were very relaxing.
We enjoyed a dog sled ride through the forest and fields and although it was extremely cold, it was quite an exhilarating ride as the dogs were very eager to go for a run.
Beautiful sunset from the frozen lake made it a winter photographers dream.
Would definitely return.

Room Tip: We chose a river view room rather than a car park view room and enjoyed the view..

This is a big log cabin type hotel that was built in the 1930s.
This place has tons of activities at a cost. (tubing, skating, curling, snowshoeing and lots more)
The pool is huge and worth going for a dip.
Big gym as well as having a squash court and a tennis court.
Make sure to enjoy some time in the lobby area to play board games. The front desk has tons of games as well, there is an arcade in the basement.
The lobby area is always crowded as people sit by the fireplace and have drinks, play games or just hang out.

Room Tip: Get a room on the top floor if you dont want to wake up early because of kids jumping around.

Namaste24, I really appreciate your great feedback and your room tip is a great one. Our 4th floor is really the more quiet floor of the hotel!

We hope to have the opportunity to see you back again!

Stayed at Montebello for 3 nights over New Year's with my wife and 3 kids. It is a charming place with loads of winter activities, including many that you don't find very often at resorts (dogsledding, sleigh rides, curling). My kids had a great time nothwithstanding the -25C weather. Positives: The highlight for us was the variety of activities and the staff - they were very friendly and accomodating. They have a great pool and spa (connected to the main hotel by a tunnel so you don't have to go outside). Negatives: The rooms are fairly small and a little dated, but you have to remind yourself you are living in an enormous log cabin built in thw 1930's. If you want high end luxury, choose another resort. The main building is starting to feel a little tired, so Fairmont should consider a little more investment in the property.

Room Tip: You can get connecting rooms upon request.

Thank you Philip S for your great comments and advices! I can assure you that we do have an extensive capital plan going ahead and there is a lot of money invested to maintain our magnificent log structure. This year, 2 of our 84 years old elevators will be changed, and we are pursuing our roofing maintenance. We are also completing minor renovations in all of our bathrooms and bedrooms.

As you mention, rooms built in 1930 had a different standard as far as size. However, we do have large Deluxe rooms, Signature rooms and Jacuzzi rooms that are much bigger in size.

I appreciate your feedback, and we hope to see you soon!

I just spent the weekend at the Chateau Montebello and we absolutely loved it.
our room was nice, clean and romantic. we had a view of the garden.
We snowshoed, walked on the river and toboganed...awesome. we saw the dog sleighs and the sleigh rides which people seemed to be having so much fun.
the room was cleaned early, a little note from the housekeeper. Room service was prompt and affordable.
the dining room was very nice,,,, romantic and the food was to die for. variety, fresh, original and some french canadian desert. the service was awesome..always someone to serve you with a smile.
the main foyer where people sit around on the couches in front of the fire is wonderful and very relaxing. the prices at the bar are a little steep...you need to get your own as the service wasn"t wonderful here..maybe they were very busy.
We didn"t got the pool or the spa. no comments here.
You"ll love this spot,,,worth the trip out if you want some quality time with your friends and family. only big negative is that there are kids continuously running down the hall. We were without our teenagers this weekend so a little annoyed by these kids sprinting in the hallways...parents please monitor your children!
enjoy

Room Tip: away from other children if you want a nice sleep...we ended up wiht 2 double beds...a little crampe...

Thank you 401lynnej for your valuable input! We do have a great place and we love to hear that our guests enjoyed their stay!

For romantic getaways, a room on the 4th floor is a good option as it is more quiet...

See you soon!

Beatiful location with so much to offer. A great spot for couples and families. This is the largest LOG constructed building I have ever seen. Each of the rooms are different and have there own special charm. Th expansive grounds offer many trails, river frontage, fishing, seadoos, bike riding, even indoor tennis courts, horse back riding, snowmobiling, cross country skiing, sleigh rides etc. This location is a true retreat with no cities close by but a top notch resort. The staff are professional, friendly and willing to go the extra mile to help make your stay the best and the food is top notch. This is a jewel of resort that lets you stay in lavish surroundings while experiencing the great outdoors first hand with adventure and challlenge. We highly recommend everyone come and experience this one of a kind superior resort faclity at least once in their lives. Its worth the trip. Note: we did not visit the spa so I can not rate it
