The Trailside, Music Cafe & Inn
Reviewed November 5, 2012

We recently went out for the evening with some friends and headed to the Trailside Cafe for an evening of food and entertainment. This place seems to have become quite an unlikely hot spot for phenomenal entertainers, and deservedly so. Don't let the limited menu throw you off. The food we ordered was delicious! The decor is really very quirky with an old panelled door serving as one table, mis-matched chairs throughout, beautiful original artwork on the walls together with bits and pieces of the old mill which was the original purpose of the building. It seats only about 50 people in our estimation, but it makes for an incredible show. The musician(s) who play there have a very intimate setting in which to perform, and we thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, as did everyone else there. The owners and staff were so friendly and accommodating, taking the time to chat with almost everyone there. It was a memorable evening, and I can't wait to go again.

We stayed at the Trailside Cafe & Inn one night, had dinner in its restaurant, and also enjoyed the folk music performance that evening. The room was hip/homey and just right for us. The meals were very good and the chef made a special vegetarian dish for our teen daughter. Hosts Pat and Meghann were super-pleasant despite being super-busy.

Our family chose to stay in Mount Stewart, PEI, for its proximity to the Confederation Trail bike path (3 possible directions from this location). We did enjoy biking, but we also loved the easy proximity to Charlottetown and the whole central and eastern sides of the island. So, the location of the Trailside is ideal, and furthermore is both right on the bike trail and right on the main street of town.

Yes, our daughter found that the little flying insects on PEI meant you needed to wear bug spray, but that was our only wrinkle in exploring the island countryside. (One note: to rent bicycles, you'll need to go to nearby Morell or St. Peters or Charlottetown. We were very happy with Kingfisher Outdoors in Morell, which also offers canoes & kayaks.)
